While it is true that robots can increase productivity of your existing labor force, the part they are leaving out is that some of that "increased productivity" will be due to humans working extra hard not to be replaced (or murdered) by even more robots.

"Automation takes a repetitive tasks and processes and seeks to streamline the tasks and processes to be completed by machinery such as conveyors," Santagate said. "Robotics can often be an element of automation. But is distinctly different in that robotics can operate in a variety of capacities and can be re-tooled and reprogrammed to do new and different things, where automation is largely a fixed process weighed down by fixed assets."
 
I think we're okay as long as they don't figure out their own maintenance. When the robots can repair the robots, we're doomed!
 
Remember the good old days when you could get jobs making copies of manuscripts by hand? Those were great jobs! Then we made machines that could make hundreds of copies per hour with a small team of humans. Then we made machines that could make thousands of paper copies and required only one person to work them. Then we made machines that mostly eliminated the need to keep information on paper. We should go back to the days of hand-written manuscripts. We would have 100% employment instantly!

Machines are able to increase productivity, because the managers can simply turn a speed knob, and force the humans at the inlet and outlet of the machine to work faster to keep up. (bitter experiences from too many factory jobs)

They talk about increase in productivity as if the robot is doing more work, when the reality is that inserting a robot somewhere into the chain allows them to enforce a certain minimum work speed.
 
There will come a day when nobody can buy anything because the robots took over all the jobs.
