Like them or not, Google's Pixel phones will be the iPhone competitor we've demanded for years

Nice. Mines still processing, but I chose basic shipping, so it is probably not prioritized.

While I am excited to get mine, I don't see enough value in being the first to receive a new phone to pay for expedited shipping. :p

I dont think I did ...its coming Monday.

Depends, really. When the Nexus 5 came out and they were sold out everywhere, I ended up paying a $20 premium and bought it off some Indian guy locally who bought 10, thinking he was going to rake in the profit.

My order for the XL just says pre-ordered at the top. Hoping they don't run into supply issues.

My blue pixel has been processing for two days. I got in minutes after the page went live. My co-worker ordered hours after me a white one and his already shipped. :(

Google's stock estimation is BS. You are actually more likely to get one early than someone who pre-ordered the second it was announced because they can't do anything right.

Probably has to do with the available volume of the exact model (size/color/storage) you ordered, and if you ordered multiples, waiting for all of them to be available at the same time so they can ship together.

So what cases are you people that ordered them equipping? The Otterbox cases look enormous so that's a no. The Spigen cases look nice, but their previous kickstand cases have iffy reviews. The blue and gold Caseology one looks decent. I want to see what UAG has to offer.

I never use a case. I always put a dbrand skin on mine and that's it.

I just checked and my order says free shipping.

Personally, I really need to stick with a 6" screen and stereo speakers. I'm 6-2, big hands, 275lbs, blah blah blah .... tiny screens don't work for me. Another thing that doesn't work for me is $900 dollars.

I picked my Nexus 6 up a year ago $400 new with a case, glass screen saver and a wireless charger. Then, Google sent me a welcome package for joining Project Fi. Then maybe 8 months ago they sent me a lego phone holder. So very cool buy that was and very pleased.

Anyways, Project Fi only works on an extremely limited number of phones. My GF and I have the same phone and because of the very high costs and things we like, we are being forced off the Project Fi network and onto different phones when we upgrade sometime in 2017.

Even discounted next year, this phone is still going to be $500+ dollars. And no, I don't do cheaper model, lesser memory phones so don't try and tell me about a cheaper version of the Pixel. That's also not how I roll.

Just ordered the 5" 128GB Pixel with Project Fi; ships in 3-4 weeks. I want to try pure Android on a phone designed for it.

Already have a 7+ 256GB, so another phablet ain't needed.

Did anyone even physically get this phone? I thought there would be far more excitement here in the forums regarding this device...

Initial shipping dates were 2-3 weeks after the launch event according to google.

I don't think anyone has received them yet. I don't think Verizon has them in their stores yet.

The first one I have heard of anyone getting one is harsh apes above and his is reportedly arriving on Monday.

So, is the Pixel having a sealed battery a non-issue because it has quick charge and you could just bring along a battery pack? Or has it been proven that quick charge significantly deteriorates battery lifespan?

I think this stuff is pretty overstated. I've been using fast wireless charging and quick wired charging for the last 14 months on my Note 5 and the battery isn't noticeably deteriorated.

If you want q removable battery, all signs seem to be point to the LG V20 if you are in the USA (NOT available in Canada).

I know phone releases are a huge logistical operation but man, I can't stand waiting once I get hyped...

I went to another store today to look at their Pixel display. I got to see a non-functional daydream view (was mounted to the display). I'm so dissapointed there is not focus adjustment on this like the gear vr... I'm not so sure this will work for me... Might have to buy and return if it is fuzzy for me...

Also, I tried the headphone jack while streaming some music on YouTube with my Shure SE535s. It was plenty loud, I didn't turn it to max volume... It seemed to be a bit more BASS heavy but since it was a random video on YouTube, I couldn't make a direct comparison, but I feel like it was acceptable quality wise based on my brief experience.

The store had 32gb Pixels but nothing else. I called around a bit but no XLs were available, even in 32gb. I played extensively with the Pixel and the Pixel XL while comparing to my Note 5 and I just couldn't bring myself to downsize to the Pixel. The experience is definely more to my taste on the XL. Functionally, the difference between the 5.7" on my Note 5 wasn't really that different than the XL, though, so I think I'll be happy with that...

I wish these things weren't so tethered though, so I could feel what it is like in the hand... The Pixel wasnt even that usable because the volume rocker was pinched under the security clamp... So ridiculous considering they went to all the work to put up these fancy Google Pixel displays. ..

A removable battery used to be a really important feature to me. But my Galaxy S (~2010ish?) is still charging fine, so I'm starting to not care as much as I used to. Surprisingly, I've never used the removable battery or SD card features.

held a pixel xl yesterday at a Verizon reseller. it wasn't completely unpackaged or even turned on yet though.. but that will be the size for me, the smaller for my bride. still waiting to see how the verizon branded ones compared to the google store ones. I'd prefer to roll it into thy VWS bill, as long as the VWS bloat is removable as stated. ( I doubt it just the same, but I have hopium)

It's the same exact phone with 3 Verizon branded apps on the device from all reports, and those apps can be uninstalled actually (again, according to reports). Aside from that there shouldn't be any difference at all - I even think the Verizon model doesn't have a Verizon boot splash either but the traditional Google one for the Pixel but I could be wrong on that.

well.. I appreciate your post.. but Im waiting for in hand reports, as opposed to sponsored vested self interest reports... once USERS can report.. then we'll actually know!

Actual users have reported this, so don't worry. If you have a Verizon SIM, the phone installs three apps from Google Play that you can uninstall. There is no Verizon-specific boot animation.

What kind of problems have you had with SMS/MMS?

I've had a cell phone in the U.S. for 14 years now, and in all that time across three carriers ( Cingular -> AT&T, Verizon, Google Fi) it's always worked just as expected. It's not the most feature rich, but it always works for me...

I personally have probably 1 out of 50 texts get messed up in some way. Sometimes they arrive out of order if the text splits into two. Sometimes they never arrive. Sometimes half way through message it changes to complete gibberish even though that wasn't what was sent. Sometimes they take hours to arrive. MMS sometimes just get stuck sending. All of this is over multiple phones over about 5 years and the problems have been around the whole time, maybe its verizon.

In Android Nougat with Google Messenger....tons of reports whether AOSP or unrooted stock of Messenger sending SMS/MMS to the entirely wrong contact....and their replies getting filed into the wrong chat as well. Purging the SMS database does nothing to help. As I said this seems an Nougat/Messenger problem generally and even being stock unrooted it happens. It also is not consistent, your SMS will be fine, until a day or two later suddenly people are SMSing saying "I think you meant all that for someone else".

I've ceased using Messenger on Nougat on my Shamu and reverted to Google Voice SMS (which doesn't do MMS, and hasn't been updated in years-but it WORKS) until my v20 comes...then I'll see what happens. Will give the stock LG apps a go before risking Messenger again, having business SMS go to the wrong person can be one of those derp-worthy fireable offenses.

That's what Hangouts is for, it does SMS and MMS without any issues, at least not for me. While I have service from T-Mobile I never give out my carrier number and only use my Google Voice number for all phone calls (using Hangouts Dialer for outgoing calls), SMS, and MMS and it's all done through Hangouts now, has been for well over the past year so far and I haven't had any reason to complain - it just works for me.

You do have to configure Hangouts to handle those things, however - in the settings you'll have to tell it to become the SMS client (which also makes it the MMS client as required), and also to be able to accept incoming Google Voice calls you'll have to check that option and choose the phone number (it'll offer the carrier or the GV number in the settings).

But once it's all set up it works great, at least for me in my experience. In the recent past I used Talkatone for Google Voice calls but after Google ripped out the guts of the Voice API and locked it down so third party apps wouldn't work the same way, I just bumped over to Hangouts and it's been ok so far.

I've never liked Hangouts...and with Google breaking chat integration it makes it clumsy at best.

Not sure what that means but, if you mean Google Chat that works too with Hangouts - if I'm "chatting" with someone on the smartphone at any given time I can just open any Google site on my laptop (and log in as I don't stay logged into Google services on my laptop), it'll show the chats I'm involved with on the lower left hand side of the site I"m in (primarily Gmail).

I mean, Hangouts is the chat app now for Google more than anything else. They did create Allo but I won't touch that, no interest at all but I'm sure that because they've stated their intentions to move Allo to the consumer front as the chat app and use Hangouts for more business and commercial services (least that's how I understand what they've said) I'm sure at some point they'll probably push me and everyone else into Hangouts like it or not.

No I meant the deliberate unhooking of SMS and chat...so now you have us who used to integrate have a tangled mess of duplicate chats to sort through.

Integrate what, chat and SMS/MMS in the same app or are you one of those folk that prefers to have a separate app for every particular task? Hangouts does that, or am I just not understanding what you're going on about? :)

I deliberately stopped updating Hangouts for two months so I could continue using merged conversations. Then I bit the bullet recently and updated. Having SMS (including multiple phone numbers for the same contact) and chat separated out isn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. Although, I still run into problems from time to time. I really don't understand why Google didn't make merged conversations an option in settings that could be enabled, instead of removing the feature entirely.

This is what he's talking about.
Hangouts 11 does away with merged conversations

Never used such a thing, no wonder I didn't understand what the hell was being discussed. ;)

hmm I thought phones were supposed to take/make calls....and recieve/send text messages. well....then I'm happy with my motog3

edit: or like I call it: You want something? then fucking call me on the phone, you know, it's not hard, it's called "speaking"

I've had the chance to play with a pixel XL the other day. I think I would rather wait for Pixel XLII. That bezel annoys the shit out of me, and Pokemon Go and Family Guy don't work as well on it as they did on my iPhone 7 plus. I know some of you will say you don't game so it wouldn't matter, but that's pretty much the flaw of most Android apps. It's either not written as well as its iOS counterpart, and/or Android just does not free up the memory to allow the apps to run smoothly cause its insistence of keeping other apps running in background. But if prettier, the app lag graphics choppiness flaw would probably be more acceptable. Excuse me for being phone shallow!

Who the hell voluntarily makes phone calls these days?

Born in 1980, I'm by no means among the younger people on here, and still, the only time I ever use a voice call is at work, or when I have to communicate with a business, or when my mom calls, and in all of those cases it is annoying and would be much simpler and more convenient to use another form of communication than voice calls.

I prefer not answering my phone when people call, because talking on the phone is so damned annoying. In fact, if I don't recognize the number calling I NEVER pick up. If it is important enought they'll leave a voicemail, and maybe I'll get around to listening to it in a few days, if I feel like the annoying task of listening g to my voice mails.

Instead I treat my "phone" as my mobile internet device, that kust happens to have a phone built in, but I rarely use.
