I bought a 6600k cpu in a shop today -NEW- and it has a scratch-dent on its sufrace....I'm building a Skylake rig by the way.(6600k, 16gigs ram 1060gtx maximus ranger) Should I take it back? pics included. Thanks in advance for the advice . -MOBO will come on monday so I can't test it now.( scratch is horizontal on the right side , I fear bad temps or issues ....Might post other pics if needed)

I couldn't really see a mark, scratch or dent in that picture. But that is what the thermal paste is suppose to do. It fill in voids when you place the heat sink on the top. Once you bolt the heat sink down and take it off a few times. It will get more scratches on the top. Since it is covered you will never see it again. Enjoy your new build and have fun with it.

here's another pic...scratch2. anyway it's a straight line ....probably due to bad shipping. it's on the lower center right.it's visible only with certain lighting tough.

It isn't going to effect it. Put on the oem heat sink or thermal compound and the aftermarket heat sink and enjoy it.

When OCD kicks in. It is on like Donkey Kong. But you will be fine. Run some test and report back. Let us know how well you are enjoying it.

Can you feel it if you scratch it with your finger nail? Anyway I wouldn't worry much. Use good thermal paste, put heatsink on and forget about it.

Hi guys...System up and running ...i wasn't expecting the 6600k to be this good...Temps very good (20C idle 45 with prime). Still at stock I'm testing stability with Aida and Realbench before OC.

I see a hairline something going on.... and while I dont believe it should be there if you opened a new factory sealed package and found it like that, I know the actual mark on the heatsink won't cause you any issues. And if it does act up within its 3 year warranty you will get a new one
