Mafia III

So I see the patch is out now but damn, do you guys think the graphics in this game look like doggy doodoo or what? Definitely not the prettiest looking game I've seen.

Hit and miss. This isn't GTA 5 or Witcher 3.

The Game Ready drivers are nothing but a marketing gimmick. In most cases they don't have a major impact on the games they're supposedly released for. Game improvements from drivers tend to come from drivers released weeks or months after a game is out. When Nvidia has more time to tweak things.

They do fix some major bugs sometimes or better yet; work around them until later when the real driver is released. ;)

This was a WHQL Certified Driver they put out but points well taken.

EDIT: Did as others have suggested: Turn off Depth of Field, already had motion blur turned off, and set in game AA to medium instead of high. Looks and runs better. Not sure what kind of AA this is.

For grins I might turn in game AA off off entirely and see what I can get out of the Nvidia Control Panel or Inspector or some kind of Injector concept later.

You can tell they took a lot of inspiration from ubisoft on this one. The entire game is a grind. Even the main missions are just repetitive zone captures. Along with all the other side activities and collectibles. The game keeps encouraging you to earn money but there's nothing to spend it on aside from a few guns and ammo.

It feels like ~5 hours of unique content stretched over 50+ hours.

Also, if the blur and fog annoys you, you can alleviate some of it with a lumesharpen/hdr/gamma sweetfx filter.

Anyone else getting random crashes to the desktop on 1.01. I could play for hours on 1.00 with no crashes. No error messages or anything, just drops back to the desktop as if I had never ran the game. I had hwinfo64 log temps and voltage and all looks good. Max CPU and GPU temp 65C. I am using Reshade with the sweetfx filter, because it looks a lot better. Could this cause my issue?

The game has crashing problems on all platforms, so there's nothing you can to do fix it on your end.

Graphics issues aside, if anyone was curious about the gameplay? It's a borefest collectathon with some a good story mixed in.

As far as open world games go? Mafia 3 may be the new king of FILLER for the sake of FILLER.

It's yuk. I don't recommend it.

It's sad, they obviously targeted open world because that genre is a big seller these days.
A more focused game like Mafia 2 would have been so much better. It's funny because everyone criticized Mafia 2's weak open world ("there's a city but nothing to do in it") and we get Mafia 3 was a result.

Yes I realize the games were both made by different studios.

Even Mafia 1 is a better game in SO many ways. I would rather have a remaster of the original than Mafia 3 in its current state.

Was somewhat interested in this based on the setup from the commercials, but the graphics look awful in those same commercials. Usually commercials use a bunch of pre-rendered footage (interpolated to look 60fps) to look more impressive. Does the PC version look any better than that?

I think part of what made Mafia 1 so cool was the time period it was in. Those old cars were a lot of fun to drive and get into shootouts from. I wanted so badly to have co-op MP for that game, where you could get some friends and have them hang out the window of your car shooting a Tommy gun.

That said...I will never forget that goddamn racing mission.

That freaking racing mission.....The car controls in that game were nowhere near up to the task of that mission.

I am getting nostalgia over that mission haha, best/worst experience ever. It took me forever to get past it. Do you remember the airport mission? Or the garage shootout? That probably was some of the best gaming moments I have had, so much fun! I am really hoping to hear more positive over this game since Mafia 1 made me such a fan. I loved Mafia 2 as well, minus the limited amount open world content.

I wonder how many people actually finished it. Not long after I beat it (after, no joke, 50+ tries) they released a patch that allowed you to skip it.

I knew going into the race it was going to be a nightmare, thanks to the Mafia forums. They had some tips on there and I managed to get through it eventually.

Good question. I don't remember how many tries it took me. It was so frustrating.

Whaaaaa, I was a high school kid on dialup back then, no forums or patches for me lol.

I was always so glad that they eventually patched it so you could just skip the race if you wanted.

Still a great game and some of the graphics mods out there make it not so hurtful on the eyes.

I do remeber the garage shoot out only because paulie's AI was atrocious and he would just die. I remember taking the time to block all the stair ways and wha not with cars so he would just get stuck and I could fight my way through without worrying about him.

Game has most realistic physics ever.

damn fun game, but that racing mission was mindbogglingly annoying

Looks like it was a good idea not to pre-order this one, be nice if it's in the Steam Christmas sale...Just hope they don't patch out those physics

I just started this game. I have everything maxed with my 980ti's and I think the graphics are great. You guys complaining about the graphics need to turn up the eye candy. We'll see how fun the game are as time goes on but I'm sure it'll be similar to GTA.

Wow so we need to turn up the eye candy? I guess we were all running on low settings and never thought about that. Seriously are you that ignorant or just trolling?

I had a quick play on this today at a friends and I have to ask wtf they were thinking using 30fps on PC.
Its bloody horrible.

However, its good at 60fps, one hell of a difference.
The graphics while not highly detailed are passable.
I havent seen enough of the game to know if its worth buying though.
My 2p.

In some spots the graphics look pretty decent but overall it is a very poor looking game with lots of graphical hiccups. The skybox is laughable, annoying cloud shadows during the day, most textures are 512x512 or lower, tons of pop in and fade in, and reflections are screwed up especially in some mirrors.

I remember the racing mission from the first Mafia as well. Took a couple days as I'd get fed up with it after half a dozen attempts and then would set it aside. I finally pulled out an old non-ffb wheel I had that made a huge difference and after a few runs getting the settings dialed in I beat it. Then I was hooked driving with the wheel then and ended up keeping it hooked up and used it every time I jumped in a car. When I replayed the game a couple years later I did the same thing with a different wheel lol.

Mafia 2 was decent, but quite a bit behind 1 IMO (maybe I should have pulled out the wheel.) This one it looks like I'll wait and see what kind of follow up support it gets and maybe grab it on sale at some point.

I think the shadows are too dark. Just one of many issues with the lighting.
Aside from that and the textures I think it looks fine.

i think most of the time i find people on here too critical.. i really hope i find the same in this case.. always was a huge fan of the franchise, haven't played this one yet.

the thing that pissed me off so bad about fallout 4.. i beat the main mission, discovered every landmark, and explored the entire map in like 50 hours and was left with nothing but collect and clear out missions, that shit sucks.

Those streets and sidewalks are way to nice to be New Orleans(sorry, New Bordeaux). I can see why they wouldn't want all the potholes but the sidewalks just don't look right without tree roots pushing them up in spots.

It looks like it should be another good period piece like the first two and NOLA is a fun setting for this sort of game. Hopefully they optimize the PC version more and while those wonky physics would be fun to play around with I wouldn't want to deal with that during missions so hopefully they fix that too. I enjoyed both of the first games for different reasons so it doesn't bother me that they've changed things again but I'll wait for some more polish and/or a price a drop.

The game is super repetitive, like a Ubisoft game (I've said this before).
You will probably get bored in less than 10 hours unless the story really hooks you, but even that is sparse.

Kill this mafia boss, move to next zone, kill another mafia boss, move to next zone... Wow, such a great plot. At least Ubisoft games have main campaign missions, in Mafia 3 they are side quests with a cutscene attached to it.

Ugh. Seriously? The opening of the game does a really great job of setting up the story. All of that great set up and storytelling just goes away after that?

that is incredibly disappointing, oh well, maybe i'll just grab it when it's like $10 or something, have gears of war 4 to play meanwhile anyway.
