Gears of War 4

I got a little Horde time in this morning before work and the game runs like a champ. I'm running a 4790-K, 32 GB Ram, A Zotac Extreme AMP 1080 all at default clock speeds on a G-Sync 1440P monitor. I set the game to Ultra and I was getting 104 FPS in game and the benchmark utility was running in the high 90's with dips into the upper 80's.
 
Ok so I have Win10 installed, and I manually installed the AU when I was prompted last month. Will I run into any problems launching the game as such or no?
 
I'm up to Chapter 4 in Act 1 campaign, and I was right: my Titan X runs the game in the 70 FPS range with Insane screen space reflections turned on at 2560x1440. I really couldn't tell a difference between Ultra and Insane, though, so I turned it back to Ultra to run the game above 100 FPS. It's so super smooth. In terms of playability I think this game has to be the best out there right now. I'm excited to see some more new AAA games running UE4, now. Unfortunately so far the map design and game flow in the first Act is pretty bland and boring.

Going to get some Horde in tonight. My gamertag is ArmeniusLOD if anyone wants to add me.

Hilariously, turning Depth of Field for the cinematics to Insane drops the in-game cinematics from 100 FPS to around 20 FPS for me.

Damn, you mentioning the first Act of the campaign being bland and boring is echoing what I've read in reviews of the campaign overall. That's a bit of a bummer as I've always enjoyed the Gears campaign.

It is. I still remember the first game, as short as it was and with the widespread use of muted colors, it always felt new and exciting from one enemy encounter to the next which made it memorable from beginning to end. Hopefully it will get better.

You must have bought it digitally off of the Xbox store. Then on your PC in Windows 10, login to the same account you use on the Xbox, go to the Windows Store app, click on your profile picture in the top-right of the window, and go to My Library. The game should be listed there. If it isn't, click Show all.
 
FYI you can move your install by going to "apps & features". I personally had to move it from my smaller SSD because it was taking up too much space.

Windows changes like crazy I mean they mess with the UI like every 3 months it seems. They really need to leave it alone....
 
I cant believe I keep wasting time and data trying over and over to install this. It was at 53 GB when I went to sleep and then yet again the typical error when I woke up this morning.

This "we will look at a fix next week" bullshit is inexcusable as this should have been fixed from day 1.

I cant get a refund since I bought a code and the code itself works.

Try clearing the windows store cache.

I read that most of the store issues are being worked out or have been today. Most people are just clicking retry on their downloads and its working fine. I thought about buying today but not at the Ultimate Edition price. I can wait, but everything I've read on other sites is the PC version is rock solid, butter smooth and looks amazing. Doesn't hurt that the game is getting solid 90+ reviews from all over.

The gist seems that Gears 4 returns to much of what made Gears 1/2 great, so for any of you PC gamers who haven't played a Gears game before but are interested. This should be spot on. Also, if Horde 3.0 mode is anything like 2.0 from Gears 3 we have one of the single best multiplayer modes in a game yet again. It's a real gem and while its doing what other games have "done" it does it right.

Rounds of enemy waves, 4 player co op, good match making, 50 rounds of intense challenge starting around the teens and tower defense built in.

And where did you "read" that? On the official forums there has only been one single mention of a possible fix for store issues from a moderator and that it would come next week. Not a single person in that long thread has said that anything has changed as of today.

someone who works for the store team said on NeoGAF that some corrupted blocks for the Gears 4 download had made it onto some download servers and they were causing the downloads to stall out and just sit there instead of failing. This should be corrected now.

"Hi everyone, if you were having a problem downloading Gears where your download just mysteriously stopped at a certain point and never made progress after that, you might want to try your download again now.

It turns out there was some corrupted blocks which made their way to some of the download servers, and the nature of the problem resulted in the download just not making progress, instead of failing entirely."

Of course, that isn't going to cover all of the download problems people are having, but if you were getting a download just pausing in the middle of downloading and not progressing or failing, it should be fixed now.
 
Lol the damn game keeps constantly downloading over and over again even with the Windows Store not even open and me not even doing anything at all. I notice my net has been real slow off and on for days now and task manger showed it being used. I just happened to open the Windows Store and there the game was downloading. Nearly 500 fucking GB in the last week is down the drain as it never will install and still just gives error message.
 
I went ahead and pulled the trigger (performance reports are all strong) and it installed fine for me. Took about an hour. I still can't play yet, but it's there.
 
Game comes out on the 10th I'll wait and see what happens before I place a order for the game minus a 1080 GTX.
 
So how do I stop the game from randomly trying to download? I am already going to go over my data cap it seems yet I have no way to do anything about it. I don't even have the store open when it just decides to start and sometimes I don't notice it for an hour or two which of course is adding up.
 
Nvidia is bundling the game with their GPU's so I'm hoping to snag a code for a nice price...hopefully all the issues with Nvidia revoking keys is over

The Windows Store doesn't look THAT bad. Steam, Origin, Galaxy, and UPlay all have better interfaces but there have been far worse designs for digital stores in recent years. In some ways in reminds me of what Origin/EA Downloader and Uplay were in the early days. Functional (for the most part) but not amazing or anything worthy of praise.
 
So the game is downloading in Windows store will it pop up in the X-box App tomorrow or when it's done downloading? For me it just looks like one big HTML file that is unorganized but I guess this has to be done if you want to play the game on the PC.

If someone didn't tell me I had to click on my profile in order for My Library to show up I would be totally lost. Candy Crush looks really good next to Gears of War 4.

Yes, it will appear in the xbox app when it finishes downloading.
 
What time does the game unlock anyway? I checked this morning and got the "You're too early" message again.

It'll unlock when the clock strikes 12 am in whatever region store you bought from. If you got it on the US store, it'll be tonight at 12:00 am EDT (9pm PDT)
 
Fun so far. In Horde, we got to wave 17 on hardcore and failed, lol. I think we tried at least 10 x until we were like fuck it.
 
I always thought the Gears of War Armor was either Warhammer Space Marines Armor or something out of a Rob Liefeld comic book.

I'm still waiting for the download have like 10 gigs left...

When COD infinite warfare comes out it's not going to be pretty 130 gigs that would take me a good week.
That is going to turn off players by it'self. I plan on playing this with my Elite controller I hope it's sweet.

Were you playing a 5 man squad? I've heard you pretty much need a to have an engineer and scout on your team otherwise you're toast. I've been playing solo for kicks and have gotten to wave 9 on casual.

Yeah, 5 man. I know we had a scout but not sure about an engineer. We got to 40 something on normal but had to log off. Pretty sure we could have made it to 50.

Hardcore is a whole new ball game, though.
