This is a pretty cool use of drone technology. While using drones to identify and fix trouble spots is a great start, why not just employ the use of signal boosting drones during the game that hover over locations with low signal?

Art Pregler, the AT&T Drone Program Director explained the drones are equipped with mobile signal measuring devices and they fly over every seating section. Those devices then gauge how strong mobile signals are in the areas they survey. Pregler says the idea is to be able to identify which areas need a boost in signal service and then make the proper adjustments.

I look forward to the follow up article about how the program has been temporarily suspended due to fans throwing objects at the drones.

Hey AT&T how about you get your head out of your ass and get good coverage where I live. And no guys, I don't live in the sticks.

So either the drones run while people are in the stadium and are a danger, or the drones are measuring signals that are inaccurate as thousands of meatbags are going to be absorbing a lot of wifi not to mention the interference from their devices.

Drones? Pffsst.. autonomous mini blimps with arduinos would do the trick.

It's all fun and games until a drone falls out of the sky and drills a fan in the noggin' and Jones is paying for the subdural hematoma.

Meh, but maybe he's done the cost/risk analysis and said fuck it. The people do want their signal.
