Looking for some help on migrating from Android to iOS if you have a minute.

First up - I use an app on Android called MightyText that allows messaging from a Windows PC (Windows 7 and Windows 10 Pro) to mobile devices. I've been looking for an iOS alternative and have came up short so far. I know that iMessage allows this via Yosemite but I won't be using Mac OSX anytime soon. I've looked at PushBullet (Android only for txt/sms) and WhatsApp (haven't got it to work either).

(not sure if there will be more apps atm)

Thanks for any help!

If you have Verizon you can use Message+.

I went from iOS to Android for my current phone and LOVE Mighty Text. Sadly, there's not an iOS equivalent that I know of, but Strelok's suggestion makes me wish I still was with Verizon.

Well it works on OS X, so that's your only real alternative. Doesn't hangouts have this kind of functionality though?

Jailbroken devices can use Remote Messages. I don't think there is anything for stock iOS, though.

Thanks!

Can Jailbroken devices be returned to stock?
Yes, but iPhones can be jailbroken only if they're running iOS 9.0.2 or older. Anything 9.1 or higher has been patched by Apple.

Yeah, definite bummer. My jailbroken iPhone 6+ (9.0.1) developed some stability problems and had to be restored to stock. A few days with stock iOS 9.3 drove me to Android.

Considering going back - nothing wrong with my Nexus 6p...lol

How's the battery life on your 6P? Battery life is something iPhone does well.

Battery life is a solid 14 hours or better for me. My wife just got the new HTC 10 and it claims to have a 48 hour battery life - too soon to tell. It is a very solid phone either way.

Damn, that's nice. I don't like my s7 edge and want to find something to keep me going until the Note 6 or next Nexus.

Google Voice does exactly what you want and works on any platform. On iOS, your texts will come in through the Hangouts app. You can get your texts on any device that can connect to Hangouts, so anything that can run Chrome.

I found the android to IOS migration app apple provided to crash and couldn't get it to work. Just manually transferred most of the stuff myself last year. Glad im back with an iPhone now

Email? ;)

Facebook has a cross platform messaging app as well. I'm not sure if that does what you want or not. Skype can send cross platform message as well.

Too late guys - firmly back in the Android camp for the time being...

I came to the conclusion that iOS is the same OS that I was using on my iPhone 5 some years back. Nothing much ever changed. :(

I am using a 128gb/4gb Huawei P9 Plus - really nice phone and the camera is the best I have ever used (have not tested video though). Only problem is it needs a custom ROM to completely get rid of the Chinese localization. Hoping XDA comes through - if not I probably see a Note 7 (non-edge in my future).

That said - the stock ROM is a complete rip off of iOS if there ever was one... so if anyone is on the fence for iOS and Android, this phone may be your solution.

That's fairly common among Chinese smartphones (Oppo, Xiaomi and others do it as well). Apple is seen as an aspirational brand in China, and IP laws are loose enough in the country that local companies frequently aren't shy about copying the iPhone's interface and design.

Tempered glass screen protectors and phone cases are neat things.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is. Wait till you have to send it in or deal with their technical support (glass, headphone jack, microphone etc) When Google still owned Motorola, their technical support was a pain to deal with.

Maybe times have changed since 2010, but apple customer support is the only reason I swore I'd never have an iPhone again.

Apple customer support is the #1 reason why I stick with the iPhone. If I have a problem I just schedule an appointment, walk into my local Apple store, and 9/10 times get a replacement phone no questions asked.

I can't do that with any other manufacturer unless it's Samsung and you just happen to live near one of the three service centers in the US.

I'm going back to the iPhone after a few months with Android and the Galaxy S7 Edge and HTC 10. There's a lot to like about Android, but I'm tired of constantly tweaking settings, apps, etc. to get the phone to run smoothly. All I really want to do is talk, text, email, and use Drone Mobile, Nest, and Logitech Smart Remote. I sorely miss iPhone battery life, too. Just have to wait several weeks for my 7 Plus to ship.

The only option I was given to fix our two fucked up 3G's was to buy two off contract iPhone 4's. That was both over the phone and in an apple store, after ios 4 bricked both of our 3G's. Spectacularly bricked them, I might add.

Were you out of warranty? If so, then what did you expect?

If you were in warranty you should have contacted corporate as they should have replaced your phone assuming it was in warranty and had no water damage.

it's actually worse now since Lenovo owns them. Apple support is based in the US. Motorola isnt

Keep in mind at least you can walk into a store. Try being without a phone for a month , because Motorolla won't ship you a refurb phone till they receive the broken one

Couple months out of warranty, but I kind of expected them to fix the issue they caused. My phone looked brand new, it was in a case before I left the store with it when I bought it. No water damage, just some dicked up software with the apple seal of approval.

I dunno, it was the principle of it more than anything. Apple fucked it up, Apple should have taken care of it.

Yes, I did try all the updates Apple put out, up until I replaced the phone in November 2010. The improvements were...marginal, at best. I guess the battery life being extended to 3 hours was a 100% improvement from ios 4.0. The phone still made for a great hand warmer though. I still can't believe how hot that phone would get.

Did Apple really fuck it up. Be honest now, was the phone ever jailbroken?

Either way; You can't say Apple support sucks for an issue that was out of warranty.

Nope, never once jailbroken. And i can and will say apple support sucked back then, when the update they rolled out, and approved for my device, fucked up my device, and they refused to make it right.

It really sucks because I'm considering going back to them if MS doesn't get it together with their next round of phones. Apple customer support is my big hangup. I loved my only iPhone, but but my experience with MS support (they ate millions to take care of the RRoD with Xbox 360, replacing one of mine two years after I bought it,and a couple of phone issues where they replaced the phone) has been leaps and bounds better than the one time I needed apple support for any fucking thing.

Did IOS4 really brick your phone or what? It seems you're not telling the whole truth here. As far as I can tell, you wanted to downgrade back to to IOS3 by using unsigned firmware, but couldn't complete the process. So you apparently went to the Apple store with a bricked Iphone 4 stating that IOS4 bricked your phone. Here is a link to jog your memory

Update in last post of thread.

I'm about to put a fucking bullet in my iphone 3G. Long story short, like many other dipshits, I upgraded to OS4 when it was released, and since then my 3G has slowed to a fucking crawl. I'm trying to roll back the OS to 3.1.3 using the steps laid out on macworld.com here [URL]http://www.macworld.com/article/152428/2010/06/roll_back_iphone_3g.html
At the point where I hold shift and click restore, I try to select OS 3.1.3 but it's not found anywhere. I've read that Apple, in their infinite fucking wisdom, stops signing old OS's, causing OS4 users to be unable to roll back their now-practically-uselss idevices. Is this true? If so, I'll post video of me shooting the phone as soon as I've purchased an Android or similar phone.

Yes, I've tried to restore with several OS's older than OS4, and no options to use an older OS has ever appeared. Ever. At all. It's as though my 3G has a death wish, and I WILL grant that wish.

If anyone here has any insight as to what I may be doing wrong (I haven't totally ruled out operator error here, it could be the case but I doubt it), please let me know. I really can't afford a new phone right now but at the rate my 3G has been dropping fucking calls since the upgrade to OS4 (versus practically never dropping calls with any prior OS), the overall attitude from my phone of "I'll open the app when I fucking get around to it" and "I know you didn't mean to type that on my virtual keyboard, but since the upgrade I've been feeling uppity and you'll text what I want you to text", I will get a new one if I can't roll this one back.

Let me restate: I will shoot my phone with a caliber of gun yet to be determined, I will record the incident and put it on youtube, with a link to the video to come shortly thereafter. Also, that video will be sent to apple, and they can use the video to gauge my level of customer satisfaction with their product.

Cliffs:
1. Fuck apple
2. Fuck steve jobs
3. Fuck any apple OS
4. Fuck.

I've never owned an iPhone 4. I tried a rollback in an attempt to fix Apple's fuckup on my 3G, to no avail. Phone still functioned, as in turned on and showed shit on the screen, after that attempt.

I never did get around to shooting that phone. Moved to Maryland and sold my guns before we moved.

You'll note several others in that thread had problems with ios 4 on their 3G...I'm not making this shit up. I was also able to put ios 4 back on the phone (fuck my life) and try the various "fixes", which made the phone marginally more functional.

It was fun playing the "Where doea my iPhone's GPS think I am other than where I really am?" game after I moved from Kansas to Maryland. The wife and I saw some pretty country, unintentionally.
