So industry analyst Michael Pachter decides to not only say PC gamers are like racists that "only like their own kind," he thought it would be a good idea to then lie about it, claiming he was misquoted and taken out of context. Yup, you guessed it, there is an audio recording of him saying those exact things. Warning, the ads on the site are pretty NSFW. The video below has the full quote.
 
Humans only like their own kind as soon as they can find a way to subdivide the group into something they are apart of. This could be pretty much applied to any enthusiast of a hobby.
 
Well I'm all for people being able to choose what they play on, I prefer PC myself. However I now carry a large amount of disrespect for Michael Pachter, and I'm definitely against him as a person. Kind of hard to take that out of context too, he was rather blatant.

The fact he even used the word proves they were looking for the reaction they got. Pachter hasn't been relevant in years, maybe even a decade. Why people continue to listen to him is beyond my comprehension.

Never heard of him and I have been in this business for damn near two decades. Figured I would poke him any way.

 
Sounds like the typical console fanboy that knows little to nothing about PC gaming.
 
i dotnt realyl play on consoel cause i dont lie kpalying with controlels most of my games are better with kb mouse. also it nice to have a multitasking machine rater than jsut an entertainment PC.

however that does not withhold me from playing neither portal gutiaer herror or left4dead on Xbox ith my wife. nor was its problem playing ps3 games with my friend on his ps3.
having a preference is not the same as hating the alternatives... if this guy thinks that. he must have a really screwed up mindset.

Also the amount of crappy console ports to PC really doesn't help the attitude towards spending money on a console.
 
Because assigning one stereotype to an entire group of people (in this case PC gamers) is totally different than racism. ;)

Of course there are PC gamers who fit that description but for the most part that stuff is said more tongue-in-cheek and this guy obviously doesn't understand what a joke is.

All of it is tongue-in-cheek. PC Master Race came from Ben Croshaw, for crying out loud. His whole spiel in the originating video had me laughing my ass off. The ones who take PCMR talk seriously are just as bad as these collectivists calling us racists or likening us to Nazis.
 
Michael Pachter is like the John Dvorak of gaming. He proclaims to be an "expert" on the video games industry but in reality knows fuck all about it (e.g. predicting that the XBox One would outsell the PS4 or that the original Wii would be a failure).

-Pachter believes the strength of a console's market position is in the hardware and non-gaming apps it supports, not the game library.

With both Microsoft and Sony recently announcing that their game machines will have motion-controls of their own in the coming months, Pachter predicts consumers can look forward to the 2010 holiday season when Nintendo finally introduces the rumored Wii HD. After all, if Xbox 360 and PS3 are going to hop aboard the Wii's motion-control train, the Wii will have to add some bells and whistles of its own to stay competitive with the Xbox 360 and PS3.
-This needs no further comment. Just have a laugh at Pachter's expense.

He is right about one thing: As a PC Gamer, I have no interest in the PS4 Pro console or any other console for that matter.
And I don't care what you want to call me because of it. I'm rubber and you're glue. So there! :p
 
'Rascist' has become the N word for White/All People. I no longer take it at face value definition.

This is a silly topic to get excited about. We are arguing over which method to partake in consumerism is better. The same arguments take place over boy bands.

It does generate clicks though.

I haven't gamed on a console since Halo came out. I don't hate on consoles although I do get pissed when a game gets downgraded on PC for no reason.

Though I do have a PS3... Of course the game I got it for, installed on an SSD, naturally had to have the disc inserted while I played (nothing beats the immersion of a disc seeking every couple seconds)

I'd be surprised if it turned out to be more than upscale. Rndered at 2k, and cleverly upscaled. Not that I have a problem with that. Get out the most of the hardware, and from the hardware that's the most I expect.

**graphics are upscaled, polygon counts and textures sizes reduced, frame rate locked at 30...


I don't even care about 4K. I'd prefer the best 1080 possible at high frame rates and very high detail. It took getting the GTX 1070 for me to finally feel that 1080 is more or less looking like I'd like it to. For a point of reference. I'll pick up a nice 4K display when hardware that will push it significantly comes below the $600-1000 mark.

His analyst job only incidentally is related to gaming if you squint, as a side business of some of the companies that he analyzes. Thing is, he loves the publicity, even if he tries to deny it, and thus he speaks way above his knowledge and ends up with both feet and part of his legs lodged deep inside his mouth.
 
I, too, am somewhat platform agnostic, but honesty requires me to say the last console I played on was the Atari 2600. I became a pc convert when the VIC 20 came out and I haven't looked back since.
 
So so simple, PC gamers are PC gamers because they know where the real power of hardware resides.
 
I bought PC for its versatility as a gaming device, let alone an actual media device.

PC games can/are modded, console games can't (EG I can't enjoy Bethesda games with community made patches on consoles, esspecially considering the debacle of Skyrim on PS3)

PC games often do not run into backwards compatibility issues unless your game is 10+ years old, and even then most of them are solvable via compatibility settings, ini tweaks or virtual machines. Consoles? SoL unless the publisher decides to release it for newer consoles (EG I'll never be able to play New Vegas if I no longer have a functional PS3, doesn't happen on PC).

Consoles are often locked into 1 specific type of controller (let alone types of controls), PCs are not, in fact they are versatile to the point where, if the controller is unpluggabled or wireless, you can probably get it working on PC via 3rd party drivers or USB converters (retro ones included, Sega Saturn, SNES, N64, etc etc).

Lastly, while it isn't easy for PC's to emulate newer consoles, Consoles can't emulate unless publisher releases a game for that platform.

So in restrospect, consoles suit the "play and throw away" gamers a lot better than "play whatever you feel like" crowd.

Perhaps it is because of consoles that we are getting all this HD remakes of old games as of late? Makes sense from hardware campatibility PoV.
