I want to upgrade but MB selection is throwing me off

I'm still rocking the system in my sig and I've been planning an upgrade but the mainboard selection makes me think I should wait. It's like we're in the limbo between major chipset releases.

Z170 seems like a half measure and the boards make me think I'm building a budget system.
X99 seems dated, like the manufacturers are just going for a cash grab supporting Intel's Broadwell-E.

Should I just pick an x99 board or wait on the next chipset and upgrade at the end of '16/beginning of 17?

What IS the next thing? I've been out of hardware news for a little bit and searching for Intel's roadmap makes me think the rest of the year is mostly mobile and low power stuff.

Gaming and moderate overclocking are what I expect of my rig.

True, I wouldn't change much. But if you want to have some overclocking fun, the OC Formula boards are really good.

I've considered just the 1080, it doesn't seem like a bad option since that's what I was planning anyway but it won't satisfy my urge to build a new rig.

Since I can still play everything I want to, I'd rather get it all at once even if it means waiting a few months. I guess our next enthusiast release from Intel is 3Q '17?

I'm reconsidering the i5 6700/ Asus Maximus VIII Formula, the current front runner versus an i7-6800 / ROG Strix x99.

Depends what your budget is and exactly what you want to buy eg CPU,MB,RAM or other as well? Just for gaming?

If you're not in a hurry you can get Kaby Lake soon. Or AMD Zen a bit later.

If u wait, u die...

If u hesitate, u die...

If u buy now, u die in 6-12 months...

Death is upon u, be it now or later, u still DIE, will be dead, and will remain that way, only to serve as a reminder of this fact to those that follow u ....

SO, in other words, if you have the urge to buy/build now, just do it, and be happy until the cycle starts anew.... 'cause there will A L W A Y S be something newer/better/faster coming down the road.

Now, refer back to line 1, and repeat :D
