Which GTX 1080? Gigabyte xtreme gaming vs Zotac amp extreme

Congrats. I've been using my xtreme for a few weeks and I'm glad I went with it. Such a great card. Enjoy it!

I went with the ZOTAC GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme and have been very, very impressed with build quality and overclocking. So far I've only taken the card to 2101 core / 5500 memory without a voltage bump just custom fan profile. Temps haven't risen above 65 degrees. This card is massive by the way. Length wise + may as well be considered triple slot cooler height -- be sure your case can support dimensions!

I have this card as well and it is massive! I used a paper straw to help support the end of the card because it is heavy and could use a little extra support.

re: giant cards and sagging.

I set my old PC case on it's side when I found that my CPU cooler worked like 10c better with an up down orientation for the heatpipes. I guess it was better for the wicking action / heat dissipation. Anyways, it had the added benefit of zero card sag so when I shopped new cases recently I got one that kept the mobo like that.

I would advise against gigabyte if silence is paramount..

Did you actually have the card to say something like this? It's dead silent.

These cards only sag if your case is low quality. No sagging in Define R5.

I own the card, and its loud as hell on the stock fan profile. Loosening it up to run at 72-75C made a big difference. I use open back headphones and a fractal design R5 in a dead silent area. I also have all of my fans at 40% or less and are made for silence. Top rear & Side panel vents open/fanned. My old MSI 980Ti with MK-26 is dead silent by comparison.

You must be doing something wrong then or your card is faulty. And as far as I know you had G1, not Xtreme. Card is silent on auto profile. Even on 100% it's not even close to be "loud as hell".

Sorry buddy I call BS I have a Cosmos II case it's no slouch; the Zotac AMP Extreme weighs more than twice as much as my Titan X did, longer than the Titan X and extends past the width of the motherboard. I could hit someone over the head with the thing and knock them the hell out.

Well, I was talking about gigabyte. Zotac is much more massive so maybe it sags after all.

Someone mentioned "extended warranty" as a reason to go with Gigabyte over Zotac -- Zotac offers a 5 year warranty on all their cards if they're registered within 30 days of purchase, so it's actually a year improvement over the Gigabyte.

Do you have a link for zotac warranty, I tried looking for it and only seen 3 years if you register.

I do have the G1 my apologies, I thought i stated that.

I have two 1070 amp extremes and they are amzzing cards run supper cool and quie. They stay under 55c if i put the fan to 50% They do sag though should i be worried about that?

The gigabyte is pretty huge and heavy too. I have my xtreme gaming in a Corsair 900D and I still get some sag... so I am still calling BS on your 'quality case' comment.

And I also agree that the xtreme gaming is extremely quiet even at 60-70% fan speed. No idea about G1.

The quality of a case has nothing to do with sag. It is dependent on the card, mobo alignment in the case, and the way the bracket is screwed into the case.

If your motherboard is misaligned on the standoffs it can be cockeyed inside the PCIe slot causing sag. When you install the videocard, if you push back on the bottom part of the bracket or hold the end of the graphics card while tightening the screws it will help reduce the sag.

Also, it is standard practice when I buy a graphics card that all the screws are checked to see if they are snug. Manufacturers have a habit of not tightening screws all the way.

Really - because it seems like the sagging happens due to the weight of the card in the pci-e slot with nothing else to support it at the end. Don't matter what case it's in. You got a big fucking card with no suport on the ass end.

I know it doesn't look great but it's probably harmless. That said it would drive me nuts and I would prop them up with something due to my OCD. ;)

The rear part can be screwed really hard with two scerewsfor better support and here it depends on how good the metal is. It's the most important part.

No problems with 1080 Xtreme? I read bad opinions, with not stability on default stock clocks, fan clipping, fins broken.

Gigabyte GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming - Page 2 - Overclockers UK Forums

Or dont worry and buy card? I ordered today.

Fins broken is a huge exaggeration, there is a known issue with a couple of the far h eat sink fans being a little bent which can be fixed in 2 seconds.

Fan clipping is a rare but present issue, tends to be fixed by nudging the plastic housing around the fan a bit, I never experienced this issue.

Stability is great for me even in OC mode... so can't say anything beyond that. I don't see a lot of people complaining about locks and stability.

Check the user reviews on newegg.... all pretty high praise.

My old Silverstone TJ09 had a very solid tray, think aluminum, there was no flexing, and my 770 Windforce cards still sagged under their own weight. These new cards are MASSIVE - over a foot long and heavy. I don't doubt having a solid case helps but it won't stop all sagging. Anyways.. I have said my bit on this.

I don't own any GTX10x0, but I always used zip ties to help with sagging issues.

My mistake, misread it. You are correct, 2 years unregistered, 3 if registered within 30 days.

Honestly though, the cards are worth so little after 3 years and newer options so much faster that typically (given upgrade cycles around here at least) anything more than 3 years is pointless.

Well a GTX 780 would be three years old now, and still quite relevant for a lot of people. I think if one died, someone would be inclined to RMA it and then sell the replacement or give it to a friend.

No fan issues here? I am asking owners of that card, here.

That's plainly stupid. Faulty card can be found for any vendor or specific model. This card from video has an assembly issue. Can be fixed with a small screwdriver btw.

ok ok :) Raendor so your card is fine ?

Of course. Or do you think if one card has some fault all other cards automatically get them too? Following that logc all ASUS strix cards should be faulty and EVGA cards too, etc, etc.

I have the Gigabyte Extreme, it arrived yesterday and since have really put it through it's paces.

Firestrike score 19376 unclocked, it's default top speed is 2088mhz.

I added a little overclock to 2126mhz without increasing the voltage or fan speed and then ran Unigine Valley on ExtremeHD and achieved a score of 4531. It remained below 65c throughout the test and the fans were totally silent whilst also remaining totally stable. I then went on to do the test a further 10 more times.

I have just upgraded from a 690 GTX and the difference is amazing. It's the equivalent of having 2 X GTX 690's in SLI. I think I have been really lucky in the silicon lottery on this card.

What I am most impressed by is the fact I can now play Far Cry 4 on all the very highest settings at 1080p and it never drops below 75fps but on average it stays around 115fps.

On Doom 2016 I am hitting 200fps, NO JOKE!!!!!!!!

I would highly recommend purchasing the Gigabyte Extreme. Build quality is top notch, it's silent and looks amazing in my large Xilence tower.

Whats your ambient room temp? Noticed mine in oc mode rarely cracks 2050. Also noticed some flickering today in BF4 while in OC mode that was fixed by increasing fan speed, wondering If I will need to rma. Could also be that im approaching oc wrong.

Hi Ghoststalker.....:) My ambient room temp is cool as i'm in the UK :-\.......I've been playing around a little more with over clocks and took it to 2200mhz vcore but the Nvidia driver crashed instantly. I use the OC Guru II from Gigabyte and just hit the + in the GPU Clock Box and hit apply. I did it in increments of 15mhz until it got to the point that the Driver crashed......Now here is an odd thing, no matter how much I increase the clock up until the driver crashes it seems that that in Unigine valley it stays at 2126 and won't show any higher but in GPU-Z it will show it. My comp is not a clean install but I am pretty sure upon a clean install in can get higher score in Unigine Valley. I do believe my case makes a difference as it's awsome, 120mm fans everywhere :). I will show some pics at exactly what I did on the core only. I really believe that I have been one of the lucky ones as regards the silicon lottery, this makes a change as I am pretty unlucky with everything else. I did the Valley benchmark many times and the temp hovered around 60c - 65c and no more than that. All the pics are when the Valley benchmark ended and quickly did some screen shots immediately after. I will post some more as and when I do more testing here.

Ok. I stand corrected..........This is the Max I can push it and then I start having the same problems you are having, Screen flicker etc. What's intesting is that it is showing higher core in Unigin Valley @ 2138mhz whilst remaining stable but it still shows 2126mhz in GPU-Z. If you notice that the Unigin Valley score has increased in each photo as I increased the core clock. I have not done anything else apart from increasing the core clock. Temp is 1 degree higher but still cool considering the core overclock.

I'm going to upload a video to Youtube showing doom on the Vulcan API running @ 200fps constantly @ 1080p maxed out settings once I have a little time and will post the link here. It's truly amazing.

Huh I didnt think oc guru 2 worked on the 1080 (I use either Xtreme gaming engine or msi afterburner). What is your voltage setting at? GPU boost 3.0 is a bit odd to get used to

How old is OC Guru? Yeah, it works fine, well it seems to do, it's overclocking the core so it must be :) Voltage is shown above in GPU-Z or basically default because I have not increased the voltage whatsoever. I will get those two you mention and try them on a lil while once I have some time, I will let you know the outcome. To be honest, it's been many years since I did this type of thing, overclocking GPU's that is :-\. Just checked download for OC Guru and no mention of support for 1080??? But it does work, Try it yourself and see :)

Now this is interesting, I have just installed Xtreme gaming engine but it told me I had to uninstall Guru first. I uninstalled it and then installed the Extreme Engine. Now on the Easy setting in OC mode I hit 2068mhz so then I went to have a bit of a play and used the Advanced Linear setting and set the Max to 2130 and then ran Unigin Valley and according to that I was getting 2189mhz and just sat and watched it go through the motions but the end result was not satisfying, I got a score of 3700, that's a full 900 less than I got using OC Guru??? As soon as I set it at 2130 and applied it the core went to 875mv so it did bumb up the voltage.......I am still learning this Extreme engine and will get back to you with some more results very soon. :)..............Ok, did some more clocking etc using Xtreme and somethings not quite right, I had much better results using Guru, much much better, i'm still getting my head around this. GPU-Z is not even showing above 2050 when using Extreme Engine but Unigin Valley is showing much higher mhz clocks. Im going tp try the other one you mentioned in a mo and will post results.

The clock reported by valley and heaven is wrong afaik. I use the afterburner overlay. With a +25 offset and max on all sliders my clock stabilizes at 2050 according to afterburner. This is with fans at around 65%

This morning I have used a few more clocking apps and this is my conclusion.......Extreme Engine is rubbish for overclocking, I believe that the software clocks the card down if you really want to push your card and I found that OC Guru is much better for clocking to the more extreme. I tried Msi Afterburner and getting similar results with that as I was with OC Guru, it's nearly as good as OC Guru I would say. Then I tried EVGA PrecisionXoc and this gave me the best stable overclock. I ran Unigin Valley and it was showing 2151mhz but in GPU-Z and PrecisionXoc it showed 2138.5mhz and proceded to run Unigin a dozen times or so and here is the final result 2138.5mhz. Anything over that caused screen flicker :-\. The provided photo shows the core voltage etc and all information needed. The only thing I did was to add 80mhz to the core clock and hit apply, nothing more.
