i7 6700k temps on oc, what u get?

Just got my 6700k setup running. It's cooled via an Artic cooling Freezer 240 AIO watercooler on an Asrock Z170 Gaming 4 Fatality mobo. At 4.7ghz and 1.325v I'm hitting high 70's to low 80's at load on intel burn or Prime 95 testing. Wondering if this is normal, so should I start chasing potiential issues like poor pump pressure, my mount/thermal paste etc...
 
Delid it. Dropped my 6600k temps nearly 20C. It was cake. I simply used a DE shaving razer blade, wrapped some electric tape on it, and went to work. Had it done in less than five minutes. I'm at 1.31v 4.5, and max out at 59. It'd be lower if I wasn't using a stupid monoblock.
 
That doesn't compute. 4.7ghz at 1.325v is crazy low, yet your temps suggest a 1.4v load? Is that a typo?

Binned silicon lottery 4.7 chips run over 1.4v.

which it's perfectly normal.. as the VRM is out of the core die part of the stability will depend entirely on the motherboard as it wasn't the case with Haswell and the integrated VRM POS.... they just state that in the worse case scenario the chip will require 1.408V for stability at that speed.

What's yer point in regard to my point? OP says he's doing 4.7 at 1.325v yet his temps are more in line with 1.4v. 1.325v is like ultra gold.
 
Im about at similar temps with IBT, with Realbench normally I hit temps in the high 60s.. sometimes peaking at 70C.. gaming temps depending on the game are on average 40-45C, but im at 4.8ghz using corsair H100i with push/pull GT-AP15s..

It's hard to match up unless yer running the same load, Prime. Yer running 4.8 at what volts and are you delidded? Delidded temps really throws the scaling off.

lol why?.. I did 4.8 at 1.391V I see typically for 4.7ghz things from 1.325 up to 1.380... temps are never going to be the same in one place or another just too many factors, case used, airflow in that case, cooler used, ambient room temp, case intake temperature.. lot of many things have an effect in the temps and that only can be compared under same conditions.
 
1.28 fixed vcore, under prime95 load I am at 1.344 vcore in hardware monitor @ 4600mhz 64 to 68c after 30 minutes of small ffts. Not delidded on a noctua nh d15s with one fan. MX4 thermal paste.

Edit: I just set LLC to level 3 and am now at 1.296 under full load and temps are at 61 to 64c. Not too bad.

to clarify voltage.
Yes it is at 1.325 fixed in bios with LLC set at level 1. In OS, the voltage reads pretty much spot on at 1.326v at rest/load give or take 0.002v +/-.

I tried to adjust the mount of the AIO cooler and that didn't help. I'm wondering if the pump is weak in the AIO, or if the lid is crappily(great word eh) mounted on the cpu whereas heat transfer sux. Not going to delid, so I'll have to deal with it. When stopping load ie Prime or IBT temps go to 40's almost immediately, and into the 30's within seconds, so I"m not sure about my pump theory, but I haven't really kept up on tech much so I'm not sure of the troubleshooting processes.
 
4.8GHz core 4.7GHz uncore 1.43v and i get 20-30 idle light load and 60-70C on max load. using H100i GTX

yep. He jacked the price of the 4.9 when i was going to buy so wasn't going to pay 200 more

It might do better but i always give extra voltage to be safe for stability. I just finally put it together so i am running real bench for 8 hours today.

Someone needs to make a retard guide for ASrock boards. I see so much shit and i have no idea -_-

Its normal and I would not worry about it. Spending too much time worrying about intel burn test and prime 95 temps, is not really a useful thing to do. Those load your CPU in a way which you will never reach, with daily computing, gaming, or even video encoding. Those tests make your CPU hot, and that's the way it is.
If you are hitting 70C on your CPU while gaming, that's when you should be worrying.

If you are hitting 70C on your CPU while gaming, that's when you should be worrying.
eh 70C isn't even a bad temp. If it is stable its fine. You can run these at 80 and 90C for years but that leaves little room for spikes of course.
 
Those temps sound normal for the tests you're running.

Also, you really have no idea how much voltage your motherboard is supplying the CPU unless you're using a multimeter to measure. CPU-Z is terrible at providing accurate results, as are most UEFI interfaces, sadly. I'm not saying that as an insult to anyone, but my own testing has shown me vastly different results when checking with my multimeter vs software voltage reporting.
 
yeah that may be about the voltage. I did check with cpuz, hardware monitor and OCCT before it broke somehow. Anyho, that system is cursed. Re installed the OS so I could get setup to switch my CSGO rig and something is goofy I get 900+ ping spikes. I'm not sure if it's my onboard LAN, or a conflict with the Soundblaster ZxR I have in there. I was troubleshooting it and w/out the SBz in there, the pings seemed better but I still had a 4-10% choke and the ping problem was intermittent with the SBz in too. Think I'll order a new mobo and chase the mythical stable build.
 
I'd back off on the voltage and clock. I like jarablue's figures better. And agree with cameleoneel that Prime 95 doesn't represent life. Hope you're using v26.6. I run my i7 3930k at 4.2 non-stop under a h110 gti at 30c max idle and 55c max rendering or IBT.
 
With prime 28.9 at 1.3 volts I get max of 72c/73c with 2 140mm fans running at performance setting on my noctua NH D15S. IBT I get 76c at max setting.

Prime 26.6 I get max of 69c at 1.28. Though I found out I need 1.3 vcore to complete 5 passes of IBT at max setting. So I am settling on 1.3 as my final vcore. Idle temps are 21c to 25c.
 
Have you checked temps again since installing the Freezer 240? The thermal paste they provide in that kit seems to take a few days to set (3 for mine). Each day, after running at a stable clock overnight I found the CPU 10-20 degrees Celsius cooler than when I started the test so I was able to improve the overclock each night.

On my last attempt I was able to hit 4.9 GHz at 1.425 Vcore on my setup with temps in Intel Burn Test 2.5 hitting about 75 degrees. XTU peaks at 78-80 when benchmarking.

IBT was set to 27500 for memory on 10 runs for overnight testing. Temps were captured by HWMonitor Pro.

using IBT at 27500 (close to max) I see 50-65 degrees at 4.7 Ghz with a 1.35 vcore.

On IBT 2.54 I'm hitting 96oC and it bumps the voltage up to 1.495 which IBT 2.5 does not do. This is still clocked at 4.9 GHz

Hyper threading is turned off in the UEFI. It adds about 10oC to any overclock.

I've come here for a little help/advice. These numbers just don't see right to me.
I've got an MSI MPower Ti, with an H115i. At a relatively low 4.5GHz @ 1.35 I'm getting 85-90C using Prime 28.9 Small FFTs! I'm afraid to increase voltage at those temps, so I can't go any faster, because at those voltages and 4.6GHz I get instant crash when I fire up Prime95. One thing to note is that if I stray away from Small FFTs to a blend or whatever, my temps are closer to 60-70C, which seems normal to me.

Here is what I don't get, and this is my first water cooled system and my first 6700 so I have nothing to compare to. My idle temps are about 21C which happens to be the same temp at the water in the H115i. As soon as I start Prime95, the temps go from 32C to 85+ nearly instantly. It doesn't really ramp up slowly like my watercooled GPU 1070 does. No matter what cooling profile I use (high fan speed, high pump speed) temps never climb or drop, they just stay between 85-90C. Water temps at idle are 32C, after I cook Prime95 for 30 minutes or more, the water temps slowly climb to about 35C. Air coming from the radiator is just barely warmer than ambient.

During test, the block is cool to the touch, one line from the block is warm, the other is ambient(That's the only thing that seems normal to me) lol. I have reseated the water block with no effect positive or negative.

Being totally new to this could someone shed some light on what's happening here? I'm a little disappointed that I spent this money on an H115i, and I seem to be getting the performance of a cheap air cooler.

3 things come to mind:

1) Is the fan header on your motherboard reducing voltage and starving the pump of power? Try setting the header to 100% / full power in the UEFI (if you haven't already) and let the Corsair software control the voltage the fans/pump get.

2) Mount isn't good between CPU and waterblock. Doesn't seem likely but it's still a possibility.

3) Your motherboard is overvolting the hell out of the CPU. My XPower Ti was doing just that initially. I had it set to 1.36v and running my 6600k @ 4.6GHz and the motherboard was changing it to 1.41v as soon as there was a load placed on the CPU. I had to play around with the settings vdroop/offset/etc before I got it to stay reasonably close to my actual setting in the UEFI.
 
Sweet, when I get home tonight I will look into 1 and 3. As for the mount between CPU and waterblock, it seems like everything is legit. When I remounted the waterblock I noticed the thermal paste on both the block and heat spreader, and it looked like it was getting normal contact, but that's very subjective.

I've been keeping on eye on voltages, and during load, I don't remember seeing them move up or down. I've set a fixed voltage of 1.35. I'm thinking of dropping the voltage some more and see if I can maintain a stable clock. But yea, I'll look into the fan header power in UEFI. Thanks!
 
agreed. Run some other voltage monitoring program, or even 2 and compare to cpu z and your mobo utility to see if vcore shoots way up under load. You may be able to get away with 1.3-1.325v for 4.5ghz as well. My AIO cooler I'd say is similar to yours Tomlogic, so I'd say temps would be similar all things being equal(ie same cpu and mobo). However, once you throw those variables in, the cpu may have poor contact of TIM to heatshield, or your mobo reads higher than mine etc... What I figured out, was as other's have said, temps will be nowhere near that high in games or any workload I would dish out. I run OCCT for 45 mins now and call it good if it passes that and a long run of 3dmark or whatever the hell they call it now. Then I game on it and see. If it's pased the first 2 tests I haven't had an occasion where it didn't game stable for me tho. Temps on OCCT get about as high as Prime, but I've had OCCT error stop due to high temps and that gives me some piece of mind if I'm not babysitting the comp. Also, I can set the time in there I want and just let it go. Seems to work ok for me anyway. FWIW, sorry for the rambling!

How are you getting that cool? I'm at 1.325 (auto tuned with -0.040 set in the asus profile software) + 4.4ghz on the 6700k + asus z170-a and my h100i v2 with performance mode set, is seeing temps with prime95 blend 27.9 at around 84C max and around 77C with rog realbench. Doing an acronis is averaging 55-65 with peaks to 74C for me. My idle temps at room temp of 25C are around 30C, with inside case being about 26.5, and the h100iv2 set to exhaust/push, so fan then radiator then top of case (outside top of case being around 27.5C, so this made more sense). I'm using the local.txt entry CpuSupportsFMA3=0 for prime95 as well.
