How And Why You Should Invest In A Dash Cam

I am clueless? You are in a passing lane driving, and when someone passes you you call them names. I can see why you don't want people to have guns. You can;t trust yourself. You get mad easily and would more than likely be a danger to society.

1.) Not driving in the passing lane. My speed was higher than the cars to my right, thus passing.

2.) I'd be passing even faster if the guy Infront of me weren't driving slowly. I'm not the problem here, I'm trying to pass and wanting to drive faster, but I am unable to do so because no matter how fast I want to go I can drive through other cars.

3.) What that guy was doing was extremely dangerous, and had there been a cop there he would have been pulled over, given a ticket and possibly even arrested, not me.

4.) If you think what that guy was doing was OK, then you probably shouldn't have a license either.

Let me ask you. What would do if you are passing in the left lane and catch up to a car driving slower in front of you in the passing lane?

Pass on the right, weaving in and out of traffic? That's not only dangerous, it's also illegal.

Tailgate the car infront of you until they move over? That's also both dangerous and illegal. The only thing you can do is wait behind them and hope that they move over so you can pass them.

If you're in the left lane and I pass you in one of the many right lanes, you need to rethink your lane choice.

If you think the entire highway to the right of you will never initiate a pass because you're fingering your asshole in the left lane, because passing on the right is illegal, you're sorely mistaken.

Have a friend who got driver-side T-boned going through on his green light by some mouth-breather at god-knows-how-fast.
The sonofabitch jumps out of the car and comes over to scream at my friend, even though my friend was going through ON A FRESH GREEN.
Had he not had fore and aft cams to show, definitively, that he was in the right, my buddy would have been

This is why I always hesitate to look left and right at a fresh green light just in case someone isn't paying attention or just wants to run a red light. It has saved my butt at least a dozen times.

perfect example of someone that thinks they drive better then anybody else

The truck that cut me off was doing like 67, I was doing 70. I hit the hammer lane to pass him, and the fucking prime driver didn't know how to read a sign (the split is noted at 2.75 miles north of the split). So either the prime driver had attempted to smash into the driver that cut me off(which I don't think is the case because there was zero CB chatter and no sounding of horns), or the driver that cut me off wanted to be a nice guy for the idiot that doesn't know how to drive.

You dont know the definition of being cut off do you?

I watched that video and it was clear, he did not cut you off. He signaled for at least 5 seconds before he got over and you had no intention of letting him over. Then you see he got over to allow the other truck into the other lane since you where coming up on a area where the highway was splitting.
You were sitting squarely in his blind spot for entirely too long. He gave you more than enough time to move by signalling. You were also attempting to overtake him by going ~2MPH faster.

Holy fuck y'all are retarded. His driving was fine. There's no reason a truck should EVER be in the left lane unless in an emergency situation.

Q: Are semi trucks allowed to travel in any lane on the freeway, or are they restricted to the right lanes?

A: On the freeway, commercial vehicles cannot travel in the left lane when there are three or more lanes. They are not required to be in the far right lane and can legally use the right two lanes.

What part of "two cars can occupy the same place in space and time" don't you understand?

What do you do when there is a slowpoke in the left lane Infront of you? Slow down and move over to the right because, well, I'm not going to pass anyway, so I might as well drive even slower than I already am?

Do you have some sort of intellectual disability or something?

Just ordered an Viofo A119 capacitor based dash cam along with a kit to hard wire it into my truck. I'll let you all know what I think of it when it comes in.

I got a dashcam because I am a victim of gang stalking. Have lots of evidence of it now thanks to the dashcam but the police are about as useful as tits on a bull in cases like this. Mine is a Gecko, small and cheap but the lens quality is poor. What these cams call 1080p is BS too, they take a lower res image and upscale it to 1080p. I can tell that by comparing to 1080p video from my Canon camera.

This is why law enforcement should step up and crack down on dickheads impeding flow of traffic, which is shown in some studies to cause more accidents then going over the speed limit

sitting in the passing lane, at the same speed as traffic in the right lane, in his blind spot, is NOT fine, pass or gtfo

Speeding to pass isn't legal.
Also, I suggest you check out P.A.S.S. driver training. Sounds like you need it.

Then don't follow me. You think you'll guilt trip me by illegally following me and then claim I illegally brake checked? Get off my ass.

Your license needs to be revoked before you kill someone. People like you are the reason that cars kill more people than guns do.

Nobody gets killed by cars or guns. People get killed by people, using inanimate objects.

I picked up my first Mobius ActionCam after a dude blew a red light at an intersection and hit me as I started my left turn. Luckily, he hit the hooks, so it wasn't much more than a tap on the tire. No one else chose to stick around to give the cop their accounts, but the cop believed that my telling of the story was correct as the other dude said that he didn't cross on red.

I like Mobius due to their size -- a bit thicker than a Tic Tac case. They recently came out with lens that's 90 offset so the camera can be used vertically. I've got that one affixed to one of my motorcycle helmets. The little Mobius doesn't stick out and as obtuse as those GoPro cams are.

I really want to start posting the video of assholes on cell phones to the Twitter or FB pages of local police departments. Wish my area had more bike cops as they could probably make a killing on busting distracted drivers.

That's why I drive a big truck with big tires. I had a person in the right turn lane merge back over to the straight through lane. Cool. The whole side of her car was dented and black. My tires were scuffed.
These cars make me laugh when they tangle with truck and even more so with the footage of them messing with big rigs. My old F100 has a bumper that probably weighs 300lbs or so of steel. Bring it on!

I have had people honk because of a merge lane where I had the right of way. Either be faster or slower then me. People are just so much in a hurry these days. They drive in the fast lane until the last minute and then try and turn right through the dam freeway.

You mean like this? (note I have seen all different types of people do this, has nothing to do with Asians or women):

You have a turn signal for a fucking reason. USE IT!

Not supposed to go slower than traffic in the left lane.
True, but he wasn't. Watch the video again.

A courteous driver that is aware of his surroundings is far safer than a driver with blinders on following the letter of the law. Just because you are at or under the speed limit does not make you a safe or good driver.

Oh, I agree. But when I'm in a vehicle with gps tracking that includes speed monitoring, harsh braking/acceleration, and hard cornering, you drive the way they tell you to. Its the whole reason I bought the nuvicam- to show my innocence to the company.

I've owned a dashcam for a bit over 1 year. I've had a few close calls and I keep record of those close calls. I own a Vicovation Vico-Marcus 4 dashcam. It records in 2560x1080 so the quality on youtube is worse than the raw due to the fact youtube doesn't support that format.

For all you tailgater experts, the law as I understand it is that for every 10 MPH in speed you need 1 car length in distance between you. If you go over 50 MPH you double the distance. SO if you are following someone at 70 MPH you should be 14 car lengths behind for proper braking.

Tail gate me with your dash cam as I brake check you.

Back on Topic.....Do they make a combo dash cam and radar detector?

A law that is entirely impractical and completely unenforcable in real world traffic. Brake checking someone who is at least a car length behind you just reeks of arrogance and self-entitlement, and doing so is entirely unsafe unless it is done to avoid an accident. If you brake check me with a dash cam, you will share some fault if an accident occurs, regardless of how close I was to you. Flashing taillights is a different story.

Then don't get mad when someone going slightly slower than you gets in front of you when there is ample room to do so, especially when they have been signaling for a while and you don't significantly close the distance.

Get on my ass and see what happens. I am Satan incarnate on the road. In fact, he is scared to ride with me.

Lead, Follow, or Get The Fuck Outta The Way.

I was looking into getting one, then I found they're useless in Germany. Stupid privacy or something laws that makes them useless in court.

I had a dude ride my ass just today, probably drunk from labor day festivities. I didn't brake check but I did drop below the speed limit. Pissed him off and he blew passed me a few min later.

Uhhh, what? Never heard of privacy in public

I actually had to look up the term "brake checking", it's not a term I've heard before. Here in Canada the tailgater would be 100% at fault, drivers have right of way over vehicles behind them in the same lane. They actively teach people to flash the brake lights at tailgaters here. This of course assumes that you've already moved over to the far-right hand lane to let faster traffic pass*. Most problems with tailgaters are caused by jerks driving slowly in the left-hand lane. Then all the crazies weave crazily through traffic instead of just speeding by on the left. I've driven to places where they rigidly enforce the keep right rule and it definitely helps reduce problems like this.

* People in Toronto don't actually do this.

This is new. I've lived in the GTA for over thirty years and have never heard anyone advise brake checking in a car. I know the motorcycle instructors do so and the handbook (and test) want you to "create space" by slowing down when someone is tailgating (presumably so there's more room to maneuver but on the 404 will result in someone cutting in.) It'd be nice if they'd include these ideas in the licence renewal notices so us old folks can have an idea of what to expect when we're on the road. Relying on cultural osmosis seems a little risky.

I am thinking about getting the Black Box G1W-CB. Anyone have positive or negative experiences with it (or with any of the G1W variants)?

I used a 32GB card and it would constantly reboot, I put a 2gb spare in and it stopped freaking out, also if you set it to 720p 60fps the resulting quality is surprisingly shitty, 1080p 30fps looks way more clear. It has been a year since I got it, and the stock mount is starting to get really loose, bumps move the camera.

It did help me out, I hit a bunch of stray dogs on the highway (2 lane high speed) back in june, showed it to my adjuster and he confirmed I had no way to dodge them or slow down in time. Couldnt see them with my low beams and too many incoming cars to initiate a slalom-type maneuver.

While I'm sure it made you feel better, you aggravated an already sub-par driver thus making him even more dangerous to everyone else. You could have just relaxed and moved out of the way. or just flip your mirror and ignore him.

Really, most of the issues in this thread could be avoided if people just chilled and drove more prudently.

Just this morning, I was trying to merge (signaling and slowly moving over) into an empty spot on a rather short entrance/exit lane. The asshole behind the empty spot immediately accelerated to block me. I just shrugged, gave up the spot, moved back into my lane, and took the empty spot in front of the guy in front of him. (Their lane was moving much slower than my lane).

As I understand it, flashing the taillights (lightly tapping the brakes so that your brake lights light up but no significant braking occurs) is different from brake checking (hard braking).
