Battlefield 1 Open Beta now live

Because it's not available yet. If you didn't sign up for insider you have to check back there until it goes live for everyone. Should be sometime today.

it's been live for almost 24 hours at this point.... I played some Tues morning when I got home from work.

I think many of the night vision/red dot/flir kiddies from BF4 might take a while to come around with this. I had a good time in the few rounds I played, more skill involved I'd say with most things having iron sights.

One awesome/hilarious moment i had, some guy was charging at me while on horseback, I was an engineer, and threw the tank buster grenade at him, landed right on the horse and instantly exploded killing the dude. Scurried off smiling

played last night one round.. liked it. Is there any type of spotting on the game?? Or is that gone? I saw a few enemies and when trying to spot them nothing happens. Also i think the game is exactly what i expected from it. A mesh between battlefront (graphically) and bf4. Which is not a bad thing, the explosions and all thats going on from battlefront mixed with bf4 mechanics. Will take some getting used to. I liked the graphics on it (xbox one).

Binoculars have to be used to highlight now. Which is awesome, letting everyone mark targets in the old games was big game mechanics failure.

I got a few games in myself was a lot of fun as a sniper and later a medic. Got saved by the armored train car a few times. Saw a bi plane try to bomb it and it literally unleash hell onto the bi-plane. Like a dragon it spewed fire and when a shell hit the bi-plane it exploded into a fireball and nose dived into the ground.

Got two matches then had to go play WOW Legion with the g/f

Man its a hard week for me.... bf1 or WOW Legion or OW....so many choices for AAA games.

AFAIK you can still spot people but they made much more difficult. You wont be able to run around just spamming Q and spotting people. You will pretty much have to have your crosshairs on the person and they farther away they are the harder it will be to spot them.

Just wanted to report that the game runs great at 4k @ 42 res scale and AA off. Sitting at 60 almost all the time. Very smooth. My 980 Ti is doing 1465 core, so not a tremendous OC. No need for a Titan XP here that I can see so far.

I put in about 2 hours last night. Very fun on the new rig, everything set to Ultra and never dipped below 75 fps. Mostly averaging 100-130 fps. My friend watched me via twitch and questioned the historical accuracy of the weapons. I'm pretty sure they took gross liberties with a lot of these. Gameplay is similar to other BF titles but you know what you're getting into. Don't go into McDonalds and scoff at the quality of food.

Just to clear it up for anyone looking to play: If you don't have a beta code sitting in your inbox, you won't be playing until release day. The signup closed on 8/21.

The game is just as disappointing as I thought it would be. Runs great on my Titan X(P) at 1440p maxed out but the game itself is just way too bland.

You guys are joking right? I've been playing all day long, it's a great change from call o duty and everything else out there. Cya in game
I agreed, i stayed up way too late playing it. Get in a good squad that actually plays the game right and youll have tons of fun.

I thought the game was pretty fun in its current state as well. I'm sure more will be added on release.

That is not true. The sign up was for insider access which unlocks it a day ahead of everyone else. It is now available for ANYONE to download an play it, whether or not you signed up.

Played once. Ate some lunch. Came back to play some more and now can't connect.

Apparently EA servers are under DDOS attack, it's affecting all platforms and several different games. I can't get on either.

Yea. The one match I played I noticed the server kicking someone for some cheat. At least that is what flashed up on the chat status thingie. Like, damn, not even 2 days and luzers trying to cheat. <shakes head>

It may also be cheat developers testing out their stuff to see what works and what doesnt. what better way to test if your cheat is getting detected than a free open play period where they just have to create a new account and try again.

one of the big reasons I've started buying games on my ps4 instead, unless battlefield 1 supports admins I'll stick to my ps4 copy :(

Got about 30 minutes in last night and am sad to report that I'm not feeling it as much as I thought I would.

The gameplay is bland, the graphics are horribly unoptimized... just seems like another cookie-cutter Frostbite-powered title from EA. There isn't much going for the series anymore, it seems like BF4 was the last decent effort within the series. This feels like Battlefront in that it will be fun for a couple days, but will not last unless you find the modern task of unlocking all the content fun and enjoyable. That's not why I played and enjoyed the older titles, unfortunately. Really missing the days of Bad Company II... what happened to that fast-paced gameplay?

Worth mentioning the graphics scaling bug. Not sure if it has been patched, but if you adjust the slider from the default 42% you will screw things up. For some odd reason 42% is the native res (so 1080p = 1080p, 1440p = 1440p), going up will make it render higher and scale down (takes more horsepower). But once you change it, it goes to a fractional, so it'd be 99% scale, leading to blurriness. If you're having FPS issues, make sure you check that you aren't super sampling on accident.

Can you clarify this? I understand that 42% was default. Let's say I changed it from default. If I changed it back to 42%, it's not really default again? I adjusted it before I knew how it was working and then put it back.

How long is this beta running for? I tried playing but can't connect. And when I finally do it says no servers lol

I haven't found anything official on the end date, but I've seen a few people on various forums say September 8th

Still cannot connect. They HAVE to be hiring. How long does it take to fire up a VM in the cloud??

It seems like it should be fun. I'm thinking maybe I've just gotten past these sorts of games. I like playing it, but the sense of accomplishment is just very low.

Update:

After playing more, especially on rush, Im changing my mind. This game(beta) is pretty awesome.

So far I dont like it much. I'll play a few more rounds and see but so far blah.

At least this game has an ingame server browser unlike BF3, BF4 and HH, I was expecting this game to use Battlelog but having an ingame server browser is nice.

Game looks quite nice and well optimized, running it on 2160p and getting an average of 55 FPS on my setup.

the first five minutes were pretty cool. everything after that was trash. what a shitshow and what an incredibly shit map.

Why didn't they pick the other map that was in Alpha?

Much better map imo

I will say that rush is a blast.

now dx12 is another story, which I'm sure they are still working to implement. same auto config to high same OCs I get about the same frame rates BUT with unexplainable drops into the low 20s every couple of seconds, making it completely unplayable.
the update to crimson 16.8.3 fixed my dx12 issues! now it runs slightly, ~5FPS better. now its not really that noticeable during game play but if I look at my afterburner graphs the cpu usage is slightly higher but more even and the gpu usage is a bit lower and also more even and vram usage dropped 200MB. if I enable vsync I cant even tell the difference except by looking at the graph and dx12 seem to run more efficiently.

GPU usage shouldn't be lower. That means it's not doing it's job or there's a bottleneck somewhere unless you have a frame rate limiter in place.

if it takes less gpu power to get higher FPS wouldn't that make it more efficient? i do normally run with vsync. if i run dx11 with vsync off my gpu stays at 99% usage and occasionally dips a bit lower. under dx12 its sits around 90%. but the trade off seems to be higher cpu usage. dx11 vs dx12 avg is 45% vs 55%.

In this case, vsync would be your FPS limiter so yes. I was under the impression your GPU usage went down with DX12 and an uncapped frame rate.

yes gpu usage does go down when vsync is off. with it off I get higher FPS with less gpu load, by about 10%. with vsync on it drops usage even more and I get less drops in the FPS graph. it stays locked at 60FPS more consistently than under dx11.

edit: now this is all just from looking at the AB graphs and estimating. but for me it does seem to be running better now(dx12).

I still don't agree with the dislike of a web browser vs ingame browser.

As an example I could queue for a server if it were full and I just wanted that specific server and then web browse or something until the game auto launches. Now with the in game browser as far as I can tell there is no indication if you alt-tab out that you have loaded into the server.

Aside from that I don't see what additional functionality having it in game is really bringing here.

I agree, I actually liked battlelog

The odd thing is that the web browser solution (battlelog) was actually a very PC specific optimization that leveraged the inherent strengths in flexibility, openness and multitasking of the PC platform that consoles just don't have. Also to some extent the much faster memory and i/o of the system without having to preload and aggressively keep in memory as much to alleviate loading times.

Yet one of the complaints was it was not a very "PC" oriented feature and example of a bad porting.

I've played a little on XBONE... seems very boring! I'm more of the BF4 type
