My other half was wanting to see what was on netflix. Normally this isn't an issue as my PS3 was in the living room and did this function very well. My brother stole it to take to his room and now we don't have anything.

I have an older shuttle case with
AMD Athlon x2 (forgot model)
8800GS 512mb
Blu-ray player

I just need an hdd for it which is cheap. Would this even be worth messing around getting setup?

I know the sticks are roughly $50 give or take the one you want. An HDD can be had for even less plus I could play back DVD which the stick can't do.

This would be connected to a 720P tv.

Thanks

You could try it and see. I'm not sure what sort of requirements Netflix has on streaming.

I think I'll have to. I just need to get a drive which is why I thought I'd ask first to see if anybody had any thoughts. Thanks

From Netflix:
Minimum Requierments:
x86 or x64 (64-bit mode support for Internet Explorer only) 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) or higher processor; 512MB RAM

I think that card is the bare-minimum support for h.264 acceleration, assuming you listed it correctly as 512MB. The standard web streaming is 720p, but you can use the Windows native app to get 1080p.

Thanks. I think it should suffice temporarily then. The TV only supports 720p (Samsung Plasma) so we should be OK.

update**
Boooo.. just grabbed and looked up the card
Specs:
  • 65nm GPU @ 550MHz Core
  • 384MB DDR3 @ 1.6GHz
  • 96 Stream Processors @ 1.375GHz
  • Second Generation PureVideo HD
  • PCI Express 2.0 Supported

Looks like you're still okay. I never knew Nvida released a G92 GPU that was further cut than the 8800GT:

TechPowerUp

G92 supports h.264 acceleration.

Thanks for the link. I did get to mess around with it tonight.

If anybody was curios

Full specs
Shuttle XPC
AMD 5600+
EVGA 8800GS
LG Bluray player
320GB HDD
300W PSU

Results.
Youtube- 720p max. I started at 4K and went down until smooth
Bluray- Appears to play fine. CPU sits right about 70% (inc. background tasks)
