LG's 2016 OLED series (E6,B6,G6,C6)

Does anyone know if these sets support 2560x1440? Can't find a definitive answer in LG support docs or on Google.

1440 is supported. I've tried it since Doom framerate is too low at 4K with a 1070.

Do these run 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 chroma when game mode is turned on, or will it still run at 4:4:4?

As long as you have the input renamed to PC it will run in 444. So you can run PC+Game. Apparently the input lag is higher with input renamed to PC, though it feels no different to me.

You could just sit closer to it.

Microcenter is having some amazing sales on these 2016 OLEDs, about $2000 off with coupon. I believe the coupons are good until 9/1/16. I just picked up a 65B6P for $2699 after coupon code and open box discount. The TV is absolutely stunning!! Best TV my eyeballs have ever witnessed!!

Looks like the prices are dropping everywhere. Is there a new model coming out or did LG fix their yield issues (or both)?

LG did a $1000 off sale recently, which it looks like a lot of retailers are now repeating. I actually bit during the last one on an E6.

No new models coming out anytime soon. My guess is the price drop is a response to the Sony ZD9 coming out (high priced FALD LCD set, basically the main LCD competition for these OLED's).

One possibly important new development: people at AVS are saying there was a new firmware update to the B6 series that lowered the input lag. The B6 is the lowest price flat model of this years OLED's. No one has verified this with Leo Bodnar tests but if this is true it would make the B6 probably the best of this year's OLED range, if you are using it primarily for video games and PC use, and if you don't want the curve.

How does HDR effect PC gaming? And how can we tell if a game is HDR compatible?

I can confirm gaming does feel snappier after the .27 update on my B6. No official testing hardware though. It's an absolutely stunning TV.

As far as I know there are no HDR compatible games out on PC yet... only Xbox One S has them.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is supposed to be getting an update, the upcoming Gears 4 and Forza 3 for PC should be HDR compatible as well.

Good to know, thank you. That's exactly the scenario I envision using 1440 rather than the native res.

You could also use Doom's in-game resolution scaler and set it to 66.6% (which should be the same as 1440p). Picture quality may be slightly better that way, since the scaling is done through the game engine and not your TV. Should also have less input lag.

Also just noticed my B6P was in 4:2:0. Finally got it 4:4:4 @ 60hz, now there is a flicker in the video feed every so often along with some pixel artifact. Also there is no more HDR mode when PC is rendering 444 @ 60hz, at least none I have found yet.

I hate that I've seen this thread... I was perfectly happy thinking that my likely purchase of a 48KS8500 Sammy would have made me sublimely happy, and been a nice upgrade over my 2 year old LG 49UB8500, which is IPS and has horribly washed out blacks. But nooooo, then I see that UHD OLED is now apparently about 1/3 the cost of what it was a year or two ago, and now within reach (if I stretch a liiiitle bit). Dang.

The only thing holding me up from running to best buy Friday to pick up the 55C6P is the fact that it's 6 inches bigger than my already very large 49incher. I think the curve should help that a little bit, and I do have my current display mounted on a wall mount suspended a couple mm above my desk (and tilted down), but it still feels big if I need to check info at the periphery of the screen. I play a lot of mmos so this happens.

Now I'm really trying to convince myself that I could just back the display up on the mount arm. It's currently at full extension about 20" from the wall - I have a very deep IKEA Galant desk, if anyone knows what that looks like.

Reading Martha Stewart's post about giving up on it because of the size is now getting me worried, but I might have to stop into a best buy to check this beauty out.

Question for those using Oled as a gaming monitor. Does the lack of motion blur compensate for the lack of G-sync? Also, are you using v-syn on, or off? If off, do you notice any screen tearing?

Anyone having issues with the signal being lost when making changes to the resolution or display settings? I need to turn the TV off then on again to get the signal back. And sometimes there is nothing I can do other than restarting the computer. (When I exit out of Fallout 4 which is running at 1080 to the desktop which is 4K, I drop the signal and I have to turn off the PC and restart.)

I'm using an 18gbps Monoprice cable, deep color, wide color gamut, 4k at 4:4:4. Anyone else with this issue?

Hey bud, I was going to answer you on AVS, but got busy. I too was having a little issue with full 4K 4:4:4 @ 60hz via PC on the TV. I have a high speed HDMI also, but at 4:4:4 8-bit I was having some intermittent artifact in the video signal and intermittent flickering(even at desktop). Never lost full video, but it did look like 4:4:4 was pushing my cables bandwidth limits. No issues with 4:2:0 12-bit for me. Have you tried that mode? If it resolves your issue it could possibly be a cable bandwidth issue also. Or even a different HDMI cable.

No worries. I did some more digging and over at overclock.net there was someone who disabled digital audio over HDMI and that worked for them. I tried it last night briefly and was able to successfully exit Fallout 4 without permanent signal loss, I'll try some other stuff today to see if that's really a fix.

I have a blue jeans cable on order to see if the monoprice cable is the problem (also tried an Amazon cable). People at overclock were guessing this was a firmware issue. I hope so as I rely on HDMI audio to simplify my setup.

Thinking about picking up a C6 for gaming... Will probably wall mount it -- whats a good distance to sit from the display? 5 feet?

Yeah 5 feet is ideal I would say, that's the distance I sit from mine now. Started out at 4 feet originally but that felt a bit too close.

I just bought a 65" OLED B6P.. best buy had it on sale for $3999.98.. those of you that game with your tvs, what do you all use for mouse and keyboard? My coffee table isn't high enough to put my mouse and keyboard on that.. and I'm a large person, so I don't have much of a lap for a lapboard.. so I'm interested to know what people are using.

Thanks!

For web browsing or non gaming stuff that requires mouse and keyboard I use a small Logitech wireless keyboard, the K750, and a wireless Logitech G602 mouse. My couch has flat cloth seats that track fine for most stuff.

For gaming that requires a lot of accuracy I put a mouse pad on a small wood cutting board on the couch next to me. I then emulate the keyboard with an Xbox controller in my left hand using joy2key. Works great. You could also use a PS3 Nav controller. I just hate using a keyboard in my lap for WASD, and now I am so used to it I can't use a keyboard period for games at all.

For some other games I just use an Xbox controller by itself. E.g. GTA or the Witcher.

After some looking around, I think I'll get one of those height adjustable tables.. like the ones that hospitals use to go over their beds. and use that to put my keyboard and mouse on while playing first person games. controller will work fine for stuff like the witcher, etc. I agree on that point. I'm not too worried about input lag.. I'm used to an apple cinema display which already has 25 or so ms.. and my current tv is a plasma.. (7 yr old Pioneer Kuro 5020).. and I don't play in game mode.. the input lag is enough that I don't notice a difference between my pc and the steamlink in terms of when things happen. To me, characters appear to jump at exactly the same time on both displays.

So, if anything.. I think the B6 will be an upgrade in that department too!

It's on sale at Micro Center for $1000 less. Hope you have one of those near you.

Nope. they don't have any stores in Florida.. closest one would be 5 hours away.

Also, their price is the same. It says "Save $2000", but the regular price on their store is higher than the one on best buy's page

Micro Center - Computers and Electronics

their regular price is listed as $5999.99 whereas best buy's is $4999.99

Good looking out, though :)

How does gaming at 1440p look? I too have a 1070 and I can't see it pushing 4k, at 1440 however its a dream.

Looks great. Playing Tomb Raider now at 1600, no AA, and max settings. Rivatuner won't load OSD with DX12. Gameplay is smooth. Using scptoolkit with a PS3 controller and BT dongle to play 3rd person games wireless. Works great.

LG just pushed an update on my 65E. I never had any signal issues...probably because I'm running video only to the TV and a separate HDMI to the AVR. If you do this with an AVR that does not have HDMI 2.0 and the AVR becomes your primary display for whatever reason, spam windows key + P. The AVR needs to be extended, not cloned and set it to 1080p with Nvidia settings. Anyways, others with input/signal issues are reporting the update fixed their problem and can now run audio over HDMI to the TV. Update also added a bunch of web channels to the live TV list but they mine usage data in exchange. This can be disabled.

I prefer RGB at full dynamic range since this is what MadVR outputs and my PC is the only source. With this setting, you should set black level to HIGH on the TV. With ycbcr444 limited, set black level on the TV to LOW. This will be obvious if you use a solid black desktop. The wrong setting will either crush blacks or make black look grey. Honestly I can't see the difference between the two modes. Figured I might as well leave everything in the chain as RGB full dynamic range so conversion isn't required.

At 200 hours now, the banding and vignetting is far more pronounced than when the set was new. This is only evident on a 3% slide. Haven't noticed anything bad with actual content. A 4k web rip look worse than a 1080p bluray rip. Given the choice, I always grab a bluray rip.

Think these will go any lower in price for Labour Day?

I doubt it; I don't think they'll go much lower until Black Friday and the holiday season. I just picked up the LG OLED55C6P from Microcenter for $1999. Got a 3 year warranty with screen protection that covers essentially anything and was out the door for just over $2400 (w/ tax included).

Interesting, consensus in other threads seems to be that after 300 hours or so and a few auto cycles uniformity and color improves. I have a faint band running down the left middle of the screen, visible on light colored web pages only, which I'm hoping improves.

Good to hear!

Are there any sources to test HDR yet on a PC? Youtube, Games, Downloads, etc?
I think both Netflix and Amazon have HDR content, but I don't know if they extended support to their PC apps yet. I've heard it's pretty terrible at the moment, though.

They don't even support 4K on PC, I doubt HDR is coming without that.

Peeps who bought this display, does it come with a HDMI 2.0 cable?
I checked the package contents across several stores and all of them say no A/V cables are included. You'd figure when dropping $2k+ on a TV they would at least be kind enough to include a cable.
