Hi, I have a couple of shared folders located on a hard drive that I need to retire. If I simply drag and move these folders to a new hard drive, will my existing shares/user permissions/etc. go with the move? Or will I need to re-share the folders and setup permissions all over again? Thanks, Hammer

Agreed with Vengance. Robocopy has switches to preserve permissions, timestamps, etc.

If you just move or copy them you'll need to redo the shares and permissions. I haven't done the robocopy method.

copy/paste replaces NTFS permissions with those inherited from new parent folder.
cut/paste will retain existing NTFS permissions.

Easiest way though, as stated, is robocopy
