So I fat fingered an ad and the site/pop up hijacked my chrome and was like "we're spying on you and we'll destroy your sim card and contacts. Click ok to see how to stop it." So i force closed it and the only way to get it back was to completely disable and "uninstall" chrome and re install it.

I'm almost positive there's nothing on my phone to worry about as nothing actually downloaded, but aside from "don't accidentally click ads, is it worth get a mobile AV? or Security?

Try Lookout, I'm not sure how effective any android antivirus/security software is, but it appears to be one of the standards

Lookout is pretty horrible. Avast is decent but I've liked Zemana's mobile solution. They have a beta right now, gives you a lifetime license for free.

Google Groups

From my experience, their desktop solution is on par or slightly better than Malwarebytes, and their mobile solution is completely non-intrusive for me.

Edit: Let me state that an Antivirus on Android is highly unnecessary, unless you do dumb shit. Like installing "warez" and cracked APKs, or using app stores outside of Google, Amazon and APKMirror.

That being said, you might just be better off with an add blocker, like Adguard.com. It's free, blocks all browser ads (paid does in-app) and if all you're doing is mistakenly fatfingering ads, that might be a better solution. OR, you can use both. AdGuard paid and Zemana are running on my S7 very nicely.

With Adguard if you sign up to be part of the beta program you get a premium code for free that's good for a year.

I will absolutely check this out. I haven't been able to find an ad blocker for my phone (nothing seemed to work) so I'll give this a shot when i get a chance. Much appreciated!

Turns out It's just one page from one site that happens to be giving me issue. Stupid mobile pop up ads. No matter what browser I use, I get the same thing popping up, even with adguard from the sites home page. All the other pages work perfectly fine.

Factory reset your phone, and be done with it!

I did. It was still doing it lmao. The lady at Verizon was like I get shit from going to illegal sites all the time most people just replace it. nbd. She literally said illegal sites. I was amused.
