Philips BDM4350UC 43 inch 4K IPS PWM-free monitor

morfinx try to open this site, LCD Image Retention Test with full screen on (f11)
Tried this again last night and did the full 10 minutes. At first I thought I was imagining things. There was a VERY faint impression, but I had to put my face right up against the monitor to confirm it's there. It's not visible on an all white background. It also went away quickly. I must have missed it the last time I ran the test. Not a big deal. I would never see it in my normal usage (and I haven't).

Oh boy, I'm so jealous - mine gets faint impression after 15 seconds of showing those on screen :p

Anyhow, I called both philips and retailer - due to the "dot" I guess my screen will get replaced, and the burn in... they suggest that NOT running 48 hours straight (having some breaks in between) a static image shouldn't do any permanent damage to the screen - anything that will stay should be barely visible on solid background (and it is right now), and should go away after a short time (it does now).

I'm suprised how different view Polish support has on this compared to US support - the american one told me that 8-9h can make a permanent burn-in, but I got an official email that I'll use in case they'll reject my warranty :)

I've also read up that burn-in issues usually happens only in the first 100h of usage - morfinx, are you using your screen for more than that already? Maybe it's really just how much time the screen needs to adapt itself after unpacking..

Since I work from home fairly often, I'm pretty sure I've hit 100 hrs of usage.

Pretty interesting, I re-run this test after 10 days of high usage (around 8-10 hours) and.. after 2 minutes there are no marks at all, while in the very beginning I had literally burn ins after 15 seconds of showing the grid.

So that would confirm my suspicitions about first hours of usage being susceptible for burn ins. But that's strange that Philips doesn't want to run the screen for the first 100h itself to make users not get these kind of issues on daily basis...

vicill - Well, I posted images about vertical green lines above, and I went ahead and returned the display. I couldn't find any way to remove the problem, it is like you described.

I don't think there is anything to be done, I only had nvidia cards, so I couldn't test it with AMD card, which was only thing I could think of at that point.

No it's not the video card. I have AMD.

Mine is going for a replacement tommorow, hoping for a one without the big bad dot :(

Is the dot permanent? Good luck on your replacement!

Yeah, seems so - I saw it few days ago and it stays the same size and in the same way darkens the colors that are under it... kind of a small defect that happens from time to time.

Good thing I saw it in the first 14 days of usage - because i can get an instant replacement then (UE laws)

aiszaxs - I think it's already phased out model, and I think I checked specs, I think it only had 4:2:2 Chroma subsampling, so that might also be a problem if you want sharp image.

There are also newer models available, at least in scandinavia, like this one 4K model, with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, HDR, ambilight, game mode etc (Checked the manual a couple of weeks ago):

4K Ultra Slim TV powered by Android TV™ 43PUS6401/12 | Philips

I hope the link is OK, I mostly have checked the specs from Philips nordic site, so I had to google this one.

EDIT:
Where I live, this model is less than 600€, which is quite a lot less compared to price of 800€ something listed on Philips site.

I just think I'm going to go with a 34" UW monitor or wait for a decent quality 4k PC monitor

While sending my screen for a replacement I’ve sent an official question to philips about the issue…

And yeah, in a professional screen that is advertised to be used for graphics (at least on the advertisements) it’s acceptable to have a group of ~20 pixels being darker than the rest of the screen… I hope that there won’t be a problem with the retailer though

Yes, they are expensive, but ppl still buy them over a monitor? So that's why I don't get it.
I thought Monitor have Better color and input lag? So why buy those 4k TV when you can buy 4k monitors?
i cant get my js9000 to hook to my pc i have an r9390x

To make a small update and a farewell to this topic, Philips stated that this will not be taken under warranty (neither burn in nor the dot), but my local retailer happily gave me back my money. I'm going for 24 + 27 + 24 setup instead of big 43, hoping that the 40+ technology will be there one day. Good luck everyone!

So after ditching the Philips, I went over to the Iiyama x4071UHSU-B1.
I was a bit worried that I was going to notice the PWM, as I'm fairly sensitive to it, but as far - I haven't noticed any pwm-headache.
The colors are vibrant, but a tad blue out of the box (took a few minutes to correct).
Another thing I was worried about, was viewing angles and I'm located fairly close to the monitor. This showed to be no issue at all.

I notice no burn-in issue, or linings.
I did notice vigenetting, but only on pure white screens.

All in all - I saved over 350 US$ by choosing this model over the philips, and I'm happy!

EDIT: This monitor has a fricking remote!!! And a headphone stand build in! WTF that is awesome!

Using this thing from the beginning of May and still no visible signs of image retention, guess im lucky.
Had alot of issues with the BDM4065UC and with the Iiyama variant
This thing still is going strong with approx 300 Hours in, i did just emailed Philips though waiting for their respons about how they gonna handle the RMA when/If this defect develops.
Will update this thread if it starts.
Also, no vertical lines, no green dots no dead pixels nothing

Same here, no problems so far with mine either. Now my problem is to whether get a GTX 1080, or wait for Vega or 1080 Ti. I don't have time to play games often nowadays, but I still enjoy playing every now and then. I definitely want to play Deus Ex: Mankind Divided when it releases later this month.

Do let me know what Philips says about RMA.

It is nice to hear that unicorns do exist :)
On a side note - I play with a gtx 970 on mine, with no issues. Most games on high (not ultra), even with the monitor overclocked to 70hz

Signed up to post that I had a conversation with Philips Care on Twitter. I was about to buy this product but was concerned that the issues reported here were seemingly not covered by warranty.

I sent them a link to this thread and asked them to confirm that the issues mentioned (burn in, etc) would be covered by warranty.

They confirmed that these issues are covered. I have just bought mine from Overclockers and will add any anecdata if I experience any issues.

I was also told that they would cover it by warranty - however when they responded to my RMA, they declined.

I was about to get third display for testing, but seller couldn't say if other units in their inventory would be from different batch or not, so I didn't get another one...

Have to think for a while for other options, my second unit didn't have that bad burn in issues (it had some, but not horrible), but in combination with other issues it had, it was too much for me.

I have the exact same issue here: vertical green lines, I'm asking retailer for a replacement and it's still on the way.
I heard a non official explanation from the retailer said "The vertical green line issue can be fixed by updating the firmware on the display, Philips engineer can provide this update service in field."
Wish my replacement has the green vertical dots issue gone, but if it still there I'd like to call the Philips service and verify if new firmware works or not.

sunl1te

That's interesting to hear.

However, I'm not super excited about Philips anymore. Had to return it back a month ago.

Didn't get new one as they (retailer) couldn't tell if it was from same or different batch.

They promised to ask Philips about if or if not there has been updates to this display since first (buggy/faulty) units. They promised to get back to me...

And the retailer's support contacted me a couple of days ago - the told me that Philips doesn't seem to be willing to tell them... so that's that.

...Still wondering whether I should try another unit (from different retailer) or try some 43" Philips UHD TV...

This is my third display going on and still have the green lines issue... next time I test the display in the store with my laptop, so I can quickly get the next one :) Wonder how many units I have to go through to get the working one...

I got my 2nd unit and the green line issue is still there, but much better than the previous one.
Today I got a phone call by a Philips engineer he said they have discovered the issue and working with the factory to find the root cause, so far they suspect it's due to EMI.
Will provide more updates if I have any.

I would check out Iiyama x4071UHSU-B1 if I was you.

I'm usually a ONLY IPS kinda guy - but this panel is surprisingly good and cheaper.

Ok, now I got lucky! This is the fourth unit and it is working! No green lines, no dead pixels, no stuck pixels..!

Notes to everyone regarding the sparkling dots / lines: I have got my monitor updated a firmware, the Philips support engineer bring my monitor to their service center and updated the firmware by using a special programmer.
For now I haven't encountered any more sparkling dots. If you have a similar issue, just call Philips support and ask them to update the firmware for you.

Hi guys, i have a RGB laptop, will there be a conflict if i will connect BGR monitor? Is it true you can't run both RGB and BGR at same time? Will i be able to choose where i want to sharp and clear text on laptop or on monitor? Or it is hard to configure?

I have a Macbook Pro, which is RGB. I just turn font smoothing off. Looks fine to me.

Good to know, but what about Win 10? Any thoughts guys?
Forgot to mention, I also have a Win 10 desktop, with 2 RGB monitors on each side of the Philips. Also not a problem, as Windows 10 allows for per monitor font smoothing settings.

And do you need to compromise? Like on BGR every thing will be smooth, and on RGB not so? Or you can set settings per screen? So there won't be a problem is you use RGB and BGR, because you can set settings per screen?

No compromise.

Cheeses Crust...reading these posts is like an emotional roller-coaster ride. So what's the consensus on this display, yay or nay?

Old post - Morfinx you still have the monitor? And is it still going strong?
Sure is. No issues that I can see. I use it for multiple hours a day for work (been working a lot lately). In fact, I'm using it right now!

What are you guys experience with the BGR sub-pixel layout, I am considering this monitor, the acer ET430k and the Iiyama X4071UHSU-B1. The problem I have is the lack of connectivity on the liyama as I want to connect multiple 4k devices. How bad does text look on the BGR monitors with and without Clear Type?

Windows 10 has per display font smoothing settings, so it's not a problem (I have 2 RGB monitors and 1 BGR). I have font smoothing turned off on my Macbook Pro, which is my work computer (connected to only the Phillips when I'm at home). That looks fine as well.
