Talking Robot Mouth Mimics Human Speech

love how it says "it's japantastic" in the corner... exactly what I was thinking... well after I was thinking "so they grabbed a fleshlight and put different servos on it?

Somebody needs to make a fake translation with penis insertion directions instead of science crap.

The 'lonely guy' aspect of Japanese robot research continues but one might think that talking is the last thing guys might want from a female android. :p

An robots must communicate mimicking human biology because?
And seriously a fleash-light with a glued on nose as to camouflage. Wow!

12 seconds in, I thought, "this sounds absolutely amazing!" Then they showed that it was actually the scientist speaking and not the mouth. The mouth sounded just as bad as expected. Which I don't get. How is it possible that in this day and age, we can't recreate a freaking mouth? We know exactly how it works. How can we build complex 3D structures at 14 nm scales, but can't recreate a 1/2 foot structure that we have 7 billion working examples of? Why does every example of bleeding edge robotics always seem like it's trailing 100 years behind the rest of human technology?

Maybe it's because we're lucky :)

As funny as it can be, I think this is pretty sick imo. If for nothing else, emulation of voice sounds.

I'm sure things have improved in the six years since that video was posted. It can probably say a few words now whenever it is not full. :jawdrop:
