GTX 1080 now or wait for Vega?

Should I get a GTX 1080 now or wait?

I gave up waiting and caved in today. Seeing as Vega isn't here till next year and the computer shop down the road had $160 off the EVGA 1080FTW, I pulled the pin. Added 100 on the core clock and runs stable at 2100 at 60 degrees quiet as a mouse. Sorry AMD, but I couldn't wait any longer.
Good for you! I also got mine today and have been tweaking it. Unfortunately mine doesn't seem to overclock well. It was stable at 2050 core / 5500 mem in Uniengine Valley, but had red/white "snow" artifact in Fallout 4. Had to reduce the clock down to 2000 to get rid of the artifact. I thought it was strange that it's the core overlock that caused the artifacts, not the memory overclock. So it appears that my final clocks are 2000 core /5500 mem (at 70C, 66% fan, 75F ambient). Oh well, such is life. It seems like I always get the part that overclocks slightly worse than average.

You could try sticking mem clocks back on default and just overclock the core, I'd imagine you'd get a better fps boost.

I tried that. Memory overclock had no effect on the artifacts. It's entirely caused by the core overclock.

EDIT: Tweaked it a little more. Realized that I lose fps beyond 450+ on the memory. So settled on that (5456 mem).

You paid $520 for a 1080 FTW!? Holy crap!

Haha. I thought I might catch someone out with that. I live in New Zealand. Card here sells for $1499NZ I got it for $1320NZ. Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear in my post.

You say your motivation to upgrade is primarily to play a couple games that are coming out later this year.
Wait until they actually come out.
Upgrade right then.

Personally I am half hating nVidia right now for making Pitan exclusive through their website (meaning I can't get one, period), and Pitan X pretty much has exactly what I need.

Except, I am pretty much hanging on by a thread with a single 970, 1080 is getting more tempting by the minute, but I know full well it's not enough for even 1440p, let alone 4k.

If you need a card now, buy it.

By the time Vega comes out (1H 2017) then a few months later Volta will come out and blow it away. There's always "in a few months..."

Actually my problem isn't really the 1080, but it's the Titan.

The Titan has what I need, and I am more than willing to pay the extra money to get it, but the problem is, I can't buy it, it's not sold here.

1080 can be bought, and the recent price cut to the MSI X 8G version, it is getting more tempting, but, it doesn't have the performance I am looking for.

I could get 1070 and use the money to buy x80 of volta (which, if it is a monster, might be a Pitan X replacement), but I'd be paying the roughly the same amount of money as a Pitan X, without having Pitan X performance until Volta, which makes the 1070 a completely pointless purchase, as I most likely wouldn't touch the games I want to play with the Pitan X (I want them at the best possible experience).

So it's not I am not willing to buy, but what I need isn't sold, and is sold isn't what I need.

Im sure you can ask someone one reddit or whatever to buy it and ship it to you for a fee, or you can try ebay.
