I have a Dell 3007. What next?

I bought a Dell 3007 brand new from Dell when they came out. So I've had it for a long time.

Nothing wrong with it, as far as I can tell. It's old and I'm fairly sure better monitors are out.

I don't think I'll mind going to a 24 inch screen. Right now I game on it, mainly Diablo 3 and Fallout. I don't have the gear to drive a 4K monitor, but I don't mind getting one.

What should I do?

Edit. I'd like something new and shiny, but if you think I should keep what I have, that's cool too. I'd like to keep the price under $1500. Obviously lower the better.

The 30" Dell is still an awesome monitor. If you feel the urge to upgrade, I'd look at the 32" 4K options or an Ultrawide with G-sync/Freesync depending on our GPU. (what GPU do you have?)
I wouldn't go to anything smaller than 30", it's hard to lose so much physical realestate.
In you situation (with not having a GPU to power a 4K monitor) I'd keep your monitor for a few more years. 2 GPU generations later and you will be able to get a GPU that can drive 4K monitors at a fraction of the price of the current ones. 4K monitors will also go down in price.
The 16:10 aspect ratio of your current monitor is also great for games like Diable I think (everything well within your vision), an Ultrawide will get your head spinning (litteraly).

Good advice. Thanks.

I do want something new and shiny, but don't really need it.

I'm not bound to a particular GPU company, but I prefer nVidia. I'm not on the bleeding edge of computers at all.

new screens are slated for this year I think. higher hz/resolution from moving up to a newer displayport.

the 30" dell is still really good, but if you want to spend your money now, theres a $1500 5k dell screen, or the Gsync/freesync 4k/ultrawide screens.

I own all these:

Dell - 2005FPW - 20 Inch - 1680 x 1050

Dell - 2405FPW - 24 Inch - 1920 x 1200

Dell - 3007WFP - 30 Inch - 2560 x 1600

Dell Ultrasharp - 2713HM - 27 Inch - 2560 x 1440

Dell UltraSharp - U3011 - 30 Inch - 2560 x 1600

Dell UltraSharp - U3014 - 30 Inch - 2560 x 1600

Dell UltraSharp - U3415W - 34 Inch - 3440 x 1440

ASUS VP239H-P - 23.5 Inch - 1920 x 1080

ASUS VP279H-P - 27 Inch - 1920 x 1080

ASUS VP279H-P - 27 Inch - 1920 x 1080

and had several older ones long gone. As you can see, I like Dell Monitors. You can't in my opinion go wrong buying one no matter what price or size you get. I must admit I'm partial to the U3014 and U3415. I read there is a U3017 on it's way and a U3417 also. And for $%K U.S. they have one of the first OLED Monitors coming, a 30 Inck 4K model.

All you need is cash...and an understanding wife.....

I'm quite interested in the Oled monitor. Hope to see one soon.

For the main room in looking at an Oled tv in 65.

Fortunately I have both, cash and a wife who doesn't care what I do with it.

I have 3007's as well. Im going large format 4k. Right now I game at 7860x1600, with a large 4k monitor, I'll run at 3840x1620 so I get my ultrawide still, with a large but less complicated setup.

I was thinking wasabi mango uhd490 or the like for free sync.

Wow! That's quite a set up I imagine.

It is. I've also had 5 all in portrait at one point. But like I said, I'm trying to go less complicated.

I have to agree with not going smaller. Smaller monitors are just so hard to get used to. We have some 27" 2560x1440 displays at my job, and even those are too small for me.

Although most pf the time I'm on a 21.5" 1920x1080 display and I crave more res, more size.

I am in this same situation, ive had the 3007-hc for like 6 years now and desperately want to upgrade. I am torn between a samsung 4k tv, 32 inch 4k gsync, or the 34 inch ultrawide gsync. I just hate how small the 34 inch ultrawides look. Ive also been looking at the 27 inch 1440p 144hz displays but I dont want to lose 3 inches.

Read my mind. I've been looking those exact models.

I had a Dell 3008 for about 5 years before it began to fail, in late 2014. I went with a Viewsonic 27" 2560x1440 and liked it a lot... at first. After nearly a year of serious squinting/straining, my eyes had enough. I thought about getting another 30" or an ultra-wide, but the Samsung 4K HDTVs were the new rage. I got the 40" JU7500, but it wasn't long before I felt the same eye strain. So, I jumped to the 48" JS9000. That sealed it for me. Perfect size, perfect pixel pitch. Last week, I got the 49" KS8500 and am set. (y)

I only use my pc to occasionally game now. I use my Mac to do work.

I was also thinking about getting a projector, I have the room for it. I know I won't be able to get a projector with the specs of a good monitor. Just as an aside.

We have some of the 34" ultrawides at work, and they look smaller than the 30" I have at home. You really miss that extra vertical real estate when switching to anything else.

I need to replace my 30" soon, the picture is fading and uneven. I've been torm between the 32" 4K screens for the extra features and the 43" 4K to keep my familiar dot pitch.

That's disheartening to hear. I was considering a 34" ultrawide, but I'm also debating between those and 40" 4K TVs. Sadly Vizio is out of the question this year, but Samsung has the KU6300 for just under $500 which is getting great reviews and has proper 4:4:4 at 4K60. As tempting as that is for the price, I'm waiting until next year in the hopes that HDR TVs will go down in price and to the 40" range. Why buy now when you can get an HDR capable TV next year? We're about to begin a new wave of image quality, better to jump into it than into the last gasps of the previous wave ("just" 4K).

I went from the 30" 3008-WFP to 27" ASUS PG278Q 1440p and I've loved it. Right now I'm waiting until next year for 4K @ 120 Hz+ displays to come out and I advice you do so too.

Going from the Dell to the fastest panel on the market at the time as well as G-Sync and ULMB was a really nice upgrade. I was amazed how much less blur there was overall even though for years I felt the Dell did fine.

I did not mind losing some vertical pixels. I don't feel it makes any real difference at screens this size and resolution and I was already using 16:9 resolutions often on the Dell for the wider FOV in games.
