Hello,

I'm thinking of buying ssd, but not sure what brand/specs I should look for.
It's mainly for work, there will be some power-hungry programs, but mostly for day-to-day usage.
I'm looking for 256gb one. It's for laptop. I'm looking for best quality to price ratio ssd, since I'm a student.
This is very n00b question, but please help me out. Thanks!

Marvell controller, preferably MLC instead of TLC memory. Proven and reliable combination.
Crucial MX200, Plextor SSDs also comes to mind if you're on a budget.

Crucial MX200/300, Samsung 850 evo or 750 (cheaper model), Sandisk X110 (MLC) or X400 (TLC).

850 Evo. Mainstream vendor with a solid history of performance and reliability, or Sandisk such as those mentioned above.

Then it's settled. Thanks again! Mods can close the thread.

Plannar TLC NAND is garbage and has serious design flaws that allow for data corruption and data loss over time (i.e. the Samsung 840 EVO fiasco). I'm sure diizzy is put off by plannar tlc nand and the issue and prefers to go with MLC to avoid those issues. However, the Samsung 850 EVO uses 3d NAND which does not suffer from the design flaw of plannar nand. I would also recommend MLC over plannar nand and avoid plannar nand.
