Samsung’s latest flagship phablet was officially unveiled this week, and they are hoping that Mr. Waltz’s star power will encourage more of you to buy it. I have no idea why the theme of the commercial is ‘Murica.

the ad is timed for the Olympics where all nations are supposed to be proud of their homeland. it is supposed to be a comedic play off of that. you know, silly, cute and funny. however, liberals have taught us to hate ourselves. the indoctrination is so strong that we can't even enjoy some fun flag waving.

They could have had fun and been proud of Korea then... But Samsung and honesty don't really gel...

Well that explains the theme. But the ad was still weird.

It's a non-American company and they used the most non-American actor they can find. I guess that's supposed to show that America really is that great but it was still pretty cringe inducing.

Its supposed to be a phone that is designed FOR Americans, rather than by, and they had to use a non-American European actor to make the point that Americans are more hard working than Europeans (where they have super long vacations, 38 hour max workweeks, etc.).

Now, granted, they should have used a French or Greek actor, but I think that would have been seen as TOO true, and would have pissed off the French and Greeks that are stereo-typically lazy. There's no stereotype for Germans being lazy, in fact they are considered the most industrious in Europe, so its less offensive that way.

And yes, there is a big nationalist movement right now, and this is capitalizing on that trend.

Its really not that far from the Japanese appeasing Americans by talking about what big dicks Americans have.

You're not supposed to hate yourself. But you're not supposed to be self infatuated either over being born in a certain country. It's not your achievement. Be proud of what you did, not for things that you had no control over whatsoever.

The Note 7 is a pretty nice phone.

The liberal propaganda is strong with this one.

Its not about a personal achievement, but being proud of your heritage, your culture, and your roots. You are another link in a long chain going back centuries, every action of your forefather profoundly affecting the next link in the chain. And just as the great wall was built up over generations, one brick at a time, so too is the current state of your nation the accomplishment of your lineage that you are a part of, respecting the work and sacrifices of those before you, and that feeling of nationalism is intended to help create a sense of ownership and responsibility to planting that next brick and doing your part to further your nation's accomplishments. Why? Because its your country, and your duty to do your part to make it better.

People that lack this basic sense of national pride tend to be the ones that think only of "me, me, me", and don't feel any connection to their heritage or feel any obligation to even maintain what their forefathers have created, yet alone advance it.

Nationalism can be a powerful unifying tool among a people for a shared common goal of promoting the advancement of their community over their own small selfish interests, and paying respect to those that carried the torch before them.

I like the actor, wish they would have chosen him to do the Pink Panther reboot instead of Steve Martin. Steve Ruined it.

National Pride. Yeah, you nailed that one. Not #BLM and all of these movements about ME ME ME. As Clint Eastwood said, this country has become infested with "Fucking Pussies".

If anything nationalism is a powerful tool for creating hostility between people. It keeps us separated. We're all humans first and American or wherever you're from only second or third or nth. I'm not saying don't honour the achievements of your ancestors. I'm saying feeling pride in it is misplaced. The nationalists are always hateful towards foreigners, and have some kind of superiority complex. That's the kind of nationalism I'm talking about. And it's bad for ya.
Like the damn Frenchman who refuses to open his mouth in English and acts as if being insulted when someone talks to him in English.

"Those damn commies"
"Those damn chinks"
"Those damn mexicans"
"Those damn arabs"

All uttered by nationalists who revel in hate.

BLM is just another branch of the White guilt / SJW / PC / Equality of outcome communist utopia people. So please don't insult me by comparing me to them. Just because I'm not a nationalist, I'm not a regressive leftist.

Liberal globalists (not saying you are one since I don't know you personally, but do spew that rhetoric) are notorious for promoting division in our country, and have created countless sub-groups that people belong to in their identity politics, labeling people like myself "CIS white males that need to check their privilege" first and foremost, and humans "nth", as you say.

Rather than unify behind a flag in solidarity with the common goal of promoting the nation and taking pride in our collective accomplishments as a nation, they try to crap on everything that binds the nation as one, and divide everyone into their little compartments, making sure everyone knows which group they belong to and are all separate. Or are we going to pretend there aren't "safe spaces" on college campuses around America, where people are excluded based merely on race, gender, and sexuality. *snaps fingers*

Which part? The wine sipping striped shirt wearing lazy frenchman is a stereotype that goes back many decades, and it is somewhat based in fact.

The average male US worker puts in 42 hours a week, compared to the French that have a maximum mandated 35 hour workweek (with many working less than that, taking long lunches), 30 days vacation, and 11 public holidays.

Americans don't put in as many hours as the Japanese or Koreans, but for a Western nation we're generally considered the hardest working (at least hours we put in).

So, people aren't allowed to express frustration with a culture? Freedom of speech? PC Gone wild! I don't want to have anything to do with your communistic utopia.

I have a simple question for you. If you live in the USA, why don't you take pride in it and try to make it a better place? Hundreds of thousands of men and women have died to give us this great country!

To me "American" is as much a label as "CIS White Male". I don't like any kind of segregation. Nationalism is just one manifestation of it, it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when someone calls himself a proud "insert nation here." Why are you proud of that? You didn't do anything to be part of that nation, you just happened to be born there. So it doesn't make you any better worse or different than people born elsewhere. So I don't understand why do you feel the need to get in a group with people who happened to be born within the same land mass. If anything recent immigrants have more "right" to be proud of being from a nation, since they had to work on their integration and learning the local culture.

I'm not advocating for safe spaces, they're the most radical form os segregation it's nationalism on steroids, based on race, gender, identity, and even "privilege" whatever the fuck they think that means. I don't even know why are you telling me this. I probably hate SJW ideas as much as you do.

I just have to change a few words to turn your philosophy into mine:

Rather than unifying behind humanity in solidarity with the common goal of promoting advancement of all human life and taking pride in our collective accomplishments as the people of earth, they try to crap on everything that binds us as one race, and divide everyone into their little nations,

I have a simple question for you. If you live in the USA, why don't you take pride in it and try to make it a better place? Hundreds of thousands of men and women have died to give us this great country!
I have just one question for you: Why do you think it's great? What is great about it? Why is it greater than say Australia? To me it makes no difference. This country or that? If I stand on the US/Canadian border and step from one side to the other what changes? Nothing. That's how meaningless nationalism and national pride to me.

I don't live in the USA, but I'd never do anything that would benefit one country specifically. If an act makes one country a lot of good, but also causes grief to other countries that is not a good deed in my book. I donated to charities a few times, and I always look at who needs what. I never bothered which country they're from. That's how it happens that I also donated for a cause in the USA but also in Africa.

If anything recent immigrants have more "right" to be proud of being from a nation, since they had to work on their integration and learning the local culture.

I sure hope you are talking about those who immigrate legally. I don't give a rats ass about those who illegally cross our borders, get all of of our social benefits, and contribute nothing. If anything we have seen an influx of other countries criminals.

[QUOTE="M76, post: 1042465840, member: 250872"I don't live in the USA[/QUOTE]

That answers a lot of questions. I'm sorry. Thought you were a USA citizen. The United States was built out of rebellion against taxes and socialistic rules. We take pride in our country. To see it fall back into the hell it fought to leave, is breaking my heart.

Ok, the commercial ind of sucked to me. It didn't really show much of anything about the Note! Isn't that the point?

Oh yeah, this is about a phone. The commercial had potential but dragged and lost my interest about 15 seconds in. How often did you even see the note screen?

Having spent several years working in the states with several international companies, I can tell you one thing, 42+ hours a week at work don't count when all you do is gossip, bitch, step on/over your colleagues for any kind of promotion, divert responsibility, have meetings for the sake of having meetings and achieving nothing, but agreeing that you need another meeting about it, leaving the office during the work day to watch your kids play soccer for a few hours then coming back, and continuing for the next few hours bullshitting and drinking coffee. Yeah, I've seen how the average American white collar worker "works hard" during a 42+ hour week.

Maybe if you worked harder instead of longer, and focused on the task at hand and showed results, you might deserve longer holidays.

Now go home, if you can fit your fat obese American ass in to your oversized, polluting, gas-guzzling truck, open your supersized can of Bud, stuff that supersized hamburger in your mouth, and try not to go over a bump in the road which may cause your itchy trigger finger to shoot someone by mistake. Oh and remember not to speed, as you probably don't want to get shot by the police officer with the same trigger happy finger problem that you have, especially if you've interrupted his 3rd doughnut break of the day.

Stereotypes work both ways, ass.

We were just discussing this another topic, that actually spending more time at work doesn't equate into more productivity. So you can look down at the French as much as you want, but they have the right idea. As far as productivity is concerned about 35 hours is the sweet spot. The time that you can give 100% effort, and re-generate enough between shifts to be able to give 100% in the next one too. But in reality we didn't even have to work 35 hours anymore if we'd put all the unemployed to work, and not fight but embrace automation of jobs. I know that that's an idea hard to come to terms with, and you'll hate me for it even more.

Of course I speak about the legal immigrants. And those who actually want to live in the culture of their destination and not bring their own with them, and demand the locals to change to their liking, like it's happening in Europe right now.

I don't think it answers anything. I'm not proud of being a Hungarian either, I just am. I recognize the achievements of my past and present countrymen, but I don't feel entitled to be proud of their achievements. I did nothing in contribution to those achievements. And I do my best not to squander those and do better myself. But appropriating their achievements based on geographical association has no benefits, apart from boosting my own ego.

The biggest problem is that "liberals" in this country are squandering what we worked so hard to achieve. So it's starting to come to a head in this country. We are sort of at a tipping point. We are being taxed quite heavily to pay for benefits that only those that pay little or no taxes receive, and receive nothing. Healthcare is a biggie. It's using tax subsidies to assist those in the lower tax brackets, and penalize the middle class, HEAVILY. I have shit healthcare through our Healthcare Exchange, very high deductibles. I would probably go bankrupt if we had a hospital stay. But those with lower incomes have no deductible and the health care is paid for.

Right now America is a mess.

If anything nationalism is a powerful tool for creating hostility between people. It keeps us separated.
It also kept us safest from 'hostile' invaders. So you conveniently overlooked the most important aspect of nationalism = solidarity. 'Our' government has bombed over six middle eastern/islamic countries over the last fifteen years, so let's not pretend inviting these very same people into our homeland after won't have serious consequences in due time. US border patrol agents (north and south fronts) have already caught various terrorist organizations seeking to harm "The United States of America" attempting to cross into the USA, illegally. I bet you are for open borders (Edit: I see you stated that you're not, but I'll leave it anyway), too. I'm strongly against open borders so I must have some irrational fear of other nationalities. /s

Your whole "we're all humans" spiel only goes so far in reality. The foreigners (or muslims) entering Germany (didn't the US turn their countries into holes in the ground?) didn't seem to realize that raping the native born women in Germany is bad. Rapes only went up something like 800% though. Of course these 'racist' German nationalist must just revel in hate about their reality. I mean, it's not like these foreigners are also committing terrorist attacks against the natives, oh wait, they are. Well I bet the 129 peaceful protests by Germans against the islamisation of Germany are just the bad guys here though. I mean they are white people, Hitler, and so they must be the problem. After all, we all know that 'most' muslims don't support Sharia law.
We're all humans first
All dogs are dogs, all cats are cats, and all primates are primates. Please let me toss you in an environment with other primates and record how it goes. We all are primates after all. It's not like humans stoop so low as other animals to constantly attack and kill people different than ourselves, in 2016. /s Your reasoning is simplistic and utterly stupid. Forced multiculturalism/forced diversity (mass migration) is kind of how Rome decayed from the inside out. Towards the end their soldiers were only there for the pay, not because of nationalism, and that cost Rome, big time!
I'm not saying don't honour the achievements of your ancestors. I'm saying feeling pride in it is misplaced.
Synonymous much? They kinda overlap. I lost family members in WWII. These people (some pilots) helped the USA fight a world war. I have pride (content sense of attachment toward one's own or another's choices and actions, or toward a whole group of people, and is a product of praise, independent self-reflection, and a fulfilled feeling of belonging)! It's of little doubt to me, you are a part of the regressive left, period.
The nationalists are always hateful towards foreigners, and have some kind of superiority complex. That's the kind of nationalism I'm talking about. And it's bad for ya.
So what's the other kind? The kind where the people you're insulting tend to agree with everything you say? If I'm not mistaken, the USA is also the most superior country, militarily, I'm just saying. It's not a 'superiority complex' if it's true, right? All these men that died for a flag and now we have these new wave idiots saying how wrong it is. Pathetic. All I really see in 2016 are non-whites that came from non-white, worse off countries, spending their days calling every white person that disagrees with them a racist or a nationalist or a fascist or xenophobic or some other bullshit, period. If our country wasn't so nice this wouldn't be even a thing. If Germany wasn't so nice their women wouldn't be getting disproportionately raped. Their people wouldn't have seen a terrorism blitz that included a shooting spree, an ax attack, a suicide bombing, and a machete assault that left 13 people dead. Three of the four assaults involved refugees. Merkel said last week that she remains convinced of the motto she adopted in 2015 - “we will do this” - even as she, ironically, accused the attackers of mocking the country that took them in.
All uttered by nationalists who revel in hate.
Huh, you have the same exact character attacks that I hear from the regressive left all the time. It's literally one of their key strategies. Disagree with them --> insult me (character attacks)--> call me mad--> never counter with any proof whatsoever. It's all about 'feelings/emotions' with the regressive left, if you disagree with them, it's because you're wearing your KKK outfit at the time. Yay!

"Those damn commies" [white people, me, me, me, or you're racist!]
See here
"Those damn chinks" [only white people are racist, derp]

"Those damn arabs" [let's invite millions in, it's cool, at least we 'hope']

By the way, I noticed that all of your examples were only of white people being 'supposedly racist' against others. Where are your examples of others being racist against white people? I mean the black on white hate crime and murder rates are higher than the opposite. Yes, that's a minority group committing disproportionately more violent crimes against the majority, and that's called reality in the USofA. You know, diversity, whoop whoop.

I'm against the regressive left every way. Currently the US regressive left is a bunch of morons. But they're gaining momentum, with social media outlets, and in the mainstream media, which honestly scares the shit out of me. Germany maybe the first country where their ideals are in the daily politics. And it's really bad. Free speech is over as we know it. Criticizing the muslims is an offence. Someone got suspended jail sentence for creating a facebook group that discussed the immigrant problem.

I don't understand how you can think me as a regressive leftist. It's beyond me. Just because I don't want to take credit for other people's achievements.

I agree completely. Whoops? What now?

I think you want me to be a regressive leftist because it would validate your idea that if one is not a nationalist then he is necessarily a regressive leftist.

The regressive left wants to let the immigrant criminals go unpunished. The right wing nationalists want to punch all immigrants and I want everyone to be judged the same way by the law. Germany didn'T even prosecute or investigate the crimes of the immigrants, in fear of creating an anti immigrant atmosphere. That's bullshit. If they did it then they created the anti immigrant atmosphere for themselves.

I find most people that make a lot of noise about national or racial pride have achieved very little themselves so they use something bigger than them to compensate. The person you responded to was correct in his assessment.

Christoph Waltz is actually a great actor. This makes me sad.

The right wing nationalists want to punch all immigrants
You just finished warning people not to consider you an extremist just because you're anti-nationalist, and then do the same thing to nationalists... lol! All countries benefit from immigration, and nationalists agree as well. Heck, Trump's wife and my mom are immigrants, and I was an immigrant in all the countries I lived in.

There's a big difference between an immigrant and an illegal-alien though, the same way there's a difference in your house from an invited guest and a trespasser that breaks in.

I recognize the achievements of my past and present countrymen, but I don't feel entitled to be proud of their achievements. I did nothing in contribution to those achievements.
No offense, but have you ever played any team sports at all? When your team wins, do you not feel proud of your team and recognize that you are part of that team? And when you meet a retired member, you don't feel any kinship? Most people would be proud of their team, even if their team doesn't win, and will work that much harder to make themselves a valuable member of that group and do their very best to help the team succeed. These life lessons are why I think its so important to enroll kids in sports, not just for the exercise. It helps people to stop thinking of themselves only as an individual, since thinking and acting as an individual they are bound to lose at virtually any team game, and start thinking about the team and as part of a unit that is greater than just themselves. That's essentially what nationalism is, is putting your team on a pedestal and rooting for your team even if you're forced to sit on the bench waiting your turn, or rooting for your team after you've retired and done your bit. It feels good and gives some sense of continuity too, knowing that of course you're going to die, but your "team" will keep marching on strong.

It amazes me that some people are able to do mental gymnastics and somehow turn that team spirit into a negativism.

Kinda reminds me of the emo kids that would dress in all black and complain about everything and all the stupid jocks and refuse to cheer with the rest of the school at games. :p
