NVIDIA Announces The New Titan X

Tax kills it for me, can't justify $1305 for this blower but congrats to those who got one! I will stick to my lowly 1080 until the Ti variant comes out..... IF it comes out.

Still, looking for 1440p reviews to compare. I assume the gap would narrow at resolutions lower than 4k!

Jeez. Where do you live? I thought our 6.25% here in MA was bad.

Fair enough. I don't know what TIM is considered good these days. I still have a bunch of old AS5 tubes and a syringe of Shin Etsu (sp?) kicking around that I use when I need some.

Phobya HeGrease is still among the best. The "next gen" stuff from 2012-13 is still rocking it. AS5 is mid-tier at best now.

New York, the western end.

8.75% sales tax, or $105 for the Pitan from nVidia. I'm so used to paying no tax for my hardware through Newegg I didn't figure it into the cost.... but all is well. The 1080 kills it at 1440p and I need an excuse to not give Jen-Hsun more of my money. :ROFLMAO:

5% here in Wisconsin. I think it was $65 ish for tax. Our state taxes make up for a smaller sales tax though.

Heck sales tax where I live in Alabama is between 8 to 10% depending on the exact part of town.

There is surprisingly little publicity regarding this launch today.

A few sites have some early benchmarks, but not a ton. It's been crickets.

This is likely because Nvidia didn't sample review sites for the launch. I guess now we know how much the big reviewers depend on sampling :p

It's awesome to see so many [H] members getting these cards. Can't wait to get your impressions. Should be an insanely beasty card.

This gives me hope that a Ti is on the way soon. My EVGA stepup runs out in September. Nvidia has been rolling out the cards monthly, so let's not slow up now. lol

I'll definitely be sharing, but probably won't be pushing it too much until EK releases and ships me their water block from effing Slovenia.

My take thus far - from looking at those German benchmarks that are floating around is that at stock speeds it still isn't quite fast enough for single GPU gaming at 4K in the latest titles, so I hope it overclocks well on water. Luckily I play mostly slightly older titles.

Sometimes I wish that I wasn't such a screen resolution early adopter. Had this same problem when I first went 30" 2560x1600.

My dual 980ti's in SLI were never able to get out of the 40's fps wise at 4k in the opening scene of Metro 2033, which is a 6 year old game now...

Really? I'm playing it now and I avg nearly 90fps. As for the beginning, I don't remember but I know it was near 60 for me.
I didn't enable DOF I think because it taxes the GPUs too much.

I can't remember the settings I used.

I remember that wearing the mask outside had significant performance impacts. My standard Metro 2033 test was to play from the very beginning until you get outside and the horde attacks and that flying thing knocks over the truck.

It would frequently drop down to the 40s in that scene, as well as when you first step outside and have to shoot that one monster, with all the light beams coming through the dicrepit building. Other scenes (particularly indoors in tunnel) were much better. Maybe I did have DOF on?

I don't go by average fps, but rather look for minimum FPS in these tests, because the minimum FPS usually hits in active scenes when you need high FPS the most.

My criteria is that the low points on the graph never go below 60. This has been very difficult to accomplish at 4k thus far.

edit: Damn, my phone typos appear to be getting worse and worse...

.

I get stuff quicker from EK than I do from Florida. Shipping is a little higher, but it gets here PDQ.

I think this is the first time that I feel guilty about splashing out the cash for my hobby. They're pushing it this time...it will be interesting to see if it is a TITAN X or a TITAN Z in terms of success. :)

If by Florida you mean Performance PCs - me too. Took 5 days to get my last component order "overnight". 1070 block direct from EK took 2-3 days, IIRC. Or maybe even overnight, I don't remember.

If the Titan X benchmarks are any indication, there won't be much room for a 1080Ti. The Titan X is only ~20% faster than the 1080 as is.

Stock to stock in actual games it looks to be around 30%, which was the performance delta between 980 and Mitan X. There was still room for a Ti variant with Maxwell, the 980 Ti only being around 5-7% slower than the Mitan. So I think a 1080 Ti is still a possibility.

I'm having a bit of an issue.... Do I buy an Acer X34 to replace my dell u2410s....Or do I buy a second Titan X? Arrrrrrggggg [H] [H] [H] [H] [H] [H] [H] !!! I can't take it!

Picked up one today myself. Can't wait for it to arrive. Most insane single component I've ever purchased. Still excited though. Gotta sell my Ti's!

Any reason to keep a 980Ti for physX in my setup?

Yes! Card just shipped. Fun times tomorrow night after work...
Mine hasn't shipped, yet . Apparently it triggered the fraud prevention service on my account :banghead:. Hopefully it's still early enough over there on the west coast that it ships today.

No really guys....what to do!?!?!

NVIDIA is out of stock now. I hope my two ship today!

Looking at my last year Titan X order it looked like it took a day to go from confirmation to shipping hopefully that isn't the case this time for us...

Has Kyle or Steve said anything about them doing a review? I would like to see one from them.

No reviews on release? Nvidia can go fuck themselves... That's kind of a dick move in my opinion. I bet they wouldn't have gone that route if there was some actual freaking competition when it comes to the high-end.

Oh well, I guess I can wait another few days or so to see some real reviews before I decide to pull the trigger or not.

I don't think nVidia sampled these to anyone; similar to AMD's Radeon Pro Duo.

If you're paying $1200 for a video card, your cheap ass can def afford the sales tax. I purchased two GTX Titans from Fry's in Renton, WA when it was released back in 2013 and I paid a cool $2,320 for cards with a 9.5% sales tax. Stop pissing and moaning about the fucking tax.

Hexus reviewer on another forum got one, so not sure about that. Seems they may have sent them out very late and in very limited quantities. Also Ryan from PCPer may have one based on this tweet:

Yea, I'm pretty sure they didn't sample any out. It's just annoying.

I can understand why AMD didn't sample out the Pro Duo considering it was basically just two Fury Nanos slapped onto one PCB... Pretty easy estimate the performance it would have. The Pro Duo was also marketed as a professional creation card that was also a solid gaming card. It seems like the new Titan X is being marketed mainly as a gaming card considering Nvidia has "GAMING" in big, capital letters across the new Titan X homepage... Not to mention the fact that the Titan X has no increase in FP64 or FP16 performance over the 1080. :/

Don't get me wrong, I'll likely pick one up in a few days as my OG Titan X isn't meeting my needs... I just would have really liked to have the information I need to justify the purchase on release day before I drop $1,200 on a toy.
