I love this topic and photoshop it every year to keep it updated (also do it with phones and laptops). It's amazing to see how things evolve. Here's my GPU history. Essentially:

1998 - 3dfx Voodoo Banshee
2001 - Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400
2002 - Nvidia Geforce 4 TI 4200
2003 - Nvidia Geforce FX 5600
2005 - Nvidia Geforce 6600
2007 - Nvidia Geforce 8600
2009 - Nvidia Geforce GTX 260
2010 - Nvidia Geforce GTX 470
2014 - Nvidia Geforce GTX 770

Currently I'm trying to decide between the RX 480 or the GTX 1060 as I'm staying at 1080p for the foreseeable future. We'll see how they perform in this fall's big games and then I'll make a purchase.

Wasn't into PC gaming much until 2010:

470
A bunch of cards when I was messing around with SLI and CF and the 6950 BIOS flashing craze and determined it was all crap.
560 Ti
580
680
680 SLI, realized SLI was still crap.
780
980 Ti
1080

Ti 4400
6800 LE
(Was in school and poor student between these two cards)
BFG GTX 275
EVGA GTX 470s in SLI
EVGA GTX 670s FTW in SLI
EVGA GTX 1070s FTW in SLI

Once I started going SLI, I can't go back to single card configuration. Case looks and feels so empty.

7900 go GS
GTX 285
GTX 580
GTX 780
GTX 1080

I try to wait both a few generations and until it's double the performance. The generations thing is tricky because of the Ti versions now. A 980ti would've also been a good upgrade from 780.

some intel celeron 500mhz or so
some amd 800mhz or so

and now bulldozer

And I just bought a Dell 7559 laptop which performs about as well as my desktop it seems

May have missed a few cpus/gpus above, but that seems right as I wait forever between upgrades

It starts will a TTL mono adapter.

First FUN third party adapter I bought was ATI's Small Wonder... their EGA Wonder was GODLY at that time and the VGA wonder was good but not earth shattering. Basically I can't list that many adapters. My daily driver is an HD 7770 (I love it because it found so many LTC blocks - nostalgia) but there's also a 750Ti, RX 480, GTX 1070 and a whole bunch of GT 210's (got em all free). My favourite card at the moment is the 480 because it does so much so cheap but I'm not the one using it.

So... You have more money than sense. Got it.

Or he wants the absolute best performing rig without having to mess with overclocking or anything. I get where you're coming from but this is [H] after all. I have friends who build rigs like that, one in particular would rebuild every 18-24 and he'd always just purchase whatever the current Intel EE was and 2x of the latest Radeon flaghship 4870x2, 5970, 6990 etc. (also would always purchase some shitty ass $50 PSU which would always drive me nuts but I stopped caring / trying).

There's really nothing wrong with that. However, I personally always try to build my rigs based on my specific needs. I could build a rig with that kind of hardware if I wanted but I'd rather spread that money over multiple systems with the most suitable hardware for my needs / their particular use cases.

Same thing kinda applied to my recent Ryzen build. I originally wanted an 1800X but after reading reviews and seeing results I realized that all three of the R7 chips are topping out around 3.9-4.1ghz. It didn't make much sense for me to spend the ~$200 extra on the 1800X for a potential 100-200mhz max clock increase. I put that money towards a larger SSD in this specific build. When the newer steppings of Ryzen come out and we see the current voltage wall / clock wall issues alleviated then I'll pick-up the better binned / oc'ing chip and throw the 1700 in one of my hypervisor rigs that currently have 8350's.

In my first PC I had some Ati 32mb back in 2000 and I have no idea what exactly it was. Any idea?

Then it was Ati 9600 pro
7600gs
X1600pro
8600gt
9800gtx+

And then a long gap till I got gtx 580
970

And now Gigabyte 1080 Xtreme which I really like. Pascal is definitely the best and most refined series. Nvidia at its top, to be honest.
It's gonna be interesting what Volta will bring, though I might skip first revision this time.

Holy necro! And I think he should reread the quote he put in his sig and follow its advice smh.

He did follow its advice. Maybe you should read the whole thing or have someone translate it for you.

You think you're hurting his feelings with these posts? one of his video cards is worth more then your entire system, he's laughing at the hater posts and the authors behind them.

Haha this would be super hard for mw to remember all thr cards since 94..

Basicly to be quick.. i bought whatever was the fastest card out ea year since.

Wish i could remember my first card purchase! Prob some s3 virge model.

Monster voodoo 1,2 8mb,12mb x2. Tnt, tnt2, voodoo 3 tv.. never bought the v4 or 5 as i went to the geforce 2 cards. Then ati aiw 9700,9800.. then to nvidia for years.. then 4x amd 7970.. then back to nvidia with quad sli 480,580 for a year then just nvidia sli. Currently 1080 sli.

Next most lilely will be just a single nvidia card.. whatever is the fastest of course.

All I see is his e-peen, photo bombing a necro'ed GPU progression thread, populated with 2 different pics, showing random hardware with prices prominently displayed, that happens to include 2 different sets of Titan's X/Xp. Now unless those were his first GPU's, which they were not, what was the point of his post? I'll tell you, photo pimping his e-peen in a non photo thread is his point, hence my post regarding the quote in his sig.

And why are you so butthurt?

Showing his current progression. Sounds like you don't like to be reminded of what you can't have. As far as the butt hurt comment, sounds like a bit of projection on your part.

Just like a woman that just bought a new pair! They always want to flaunt them out there for everyones viewing pleasure! Why else would they get them?

Its all good.. as the saying goes, "Got them, flaunt them!"

Id insert a pic or 2 (of cards of course) hahah if i was on the pc right now. ;)

Honestly.. to spend that much money and not show them off would be sad.. ive felt that in the past with my epic builds.. blow well over 10k and have no one come over that even knows what there looking at to appeciate it.. its ruff.

It's not a question of "can't" have, It's more like "won't" since I just dumped $6k into solar panels and another $4k on dual-paned windows for my house which will save me money in the long run, and not something that will be obsolete in 2yrs or less.

But different strokes for different folks, I'm not dissing on his hardware purchase, just questioning his desire to rub it in, which made me ask the question why your upset with my post. No projection here my man.
