I'll go NVMe next time I upgrade my main rig. For now I just need to get my Steam library off this spinner. What's the best bang for the buck SATA 1 TB SSD right now?

I'm leaning towards the SanDisk X400 for $240. PNY has a 960GB for $220. Crucial MX300 is sitting at $260.

MX300 is probably the best one in the long run, Marvell controller and Micron flash.

I thought the SanDisk use the Marvel controller also.

I'm looking to upgrade to a 1tb SSD as well. I was eye balling the X400 as well. It has 380 TBW life span which is quite large. Looks like the MX300 is only 220 TBW. Even though the MX300 is 3D NAND vs TLC on the X400, the X400 has a special cache which seems to dramatically increase life.

Wouldn't you think the X400 is the better option?

How does the Mushkin Reactor with MLC compare?

Anything else to consider in the same price range?

things have gotten muttled for good and bad lol. There is no clear best bang for your buck now. It falls down into Cost, Performance, longevity, and maybe something else. It really is a case by case picking pros and cons at the moment.

You need to figure out these critical markers

4K
mix load
steady state
endurance (life span TBW)
cost

these are the most critical aspects of a purchase in my eyes and you need to see what matters to you the most depending on each use case. OS drive? first 3 are most important, cold storage cost, and high amounts of deletion and editing? Endurance.

you need to take a look at what you are doing and what your needs are. When I buy an SSD I have more than one use case. OS drive, main rig storage, secondary PC, Server, and maybe another build. All require different solutions....assuming I am budget conscious and can't just through NVMe at everything...which i can't lol
