Skydiver Sets Record For Highest Jump Without Parachute

Fuck you guys, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd be interested to see what his heart rate looked like prior to the jump as the plane was ascending, just as he left the plane, what it did after he greenlit the chasers to pull back and he was left alone, and finally the 5s leading up to impact and 5s after hitting the net.

Yes, because way too many people will be jumping at the chance to break this record. /s

Just what we need, a bunch of pussies like you left over. This guy is awesome.

Yes because this pussy (me) is doing things that actually help other people unlike this idiot who spends huge amounts of time/money for personal glory. Gone are the days where strength or stunts ruled. Pussies like me, nerds they're called btw, rule the world now.

So basically you want to see his heart rate for the whole thing? :p

lol, the whole jump was like 2 minutes...I don't want all that, just snippets in time where the conscious mind influences the body. Pre-flight, pre-jump, loss of chasers don't directly impact the body but the body responds because of how the mind processes those environmental changes. These snippets can tell you how comfortable the guy was during these times. The time in between is mostly irrelevant as it would probably be pretty boring (i.e. consistent).

You do realize both are possible at the same time, right? Don't 'false dilemma' me. That said...
Luke Aikins (born November 23, 1973) is an American professional skydiver, pilot, and prominent member of an elite team of skydivers, Base jumpers, and paraglider pilots who explore and advocate the possibilities of human flight (known as the Red Bull Air Force). In 2012, he was one of the eminent figures who helped skydiver Felix Baumgartner jump from a hot air balloon in the stratosphere of 120,000 feet.

Aikins also teaches skydiving; he has coached NASCAR's Brian Vickers and routinely advised the military on cutting-edge skydiving techniques. He is also an expert aerial photographer and his photos have been published in major magazines and newspapers. He has completed more 18,000 jumps since he started skydiving at the age of 12 years old. He is the first man in world history to dive from mid-tropospheric altitude and land safely without a parachute or a wing suit. Source

Holy crap. Wonder what he was thinking during his 2 minute free fall. His healh insurance company probably dropped his ass after this. The typical sky dive is from about 10,500 feet. This guy did it from 25,000 feet which required oxygen before jump. I used to skydive years ago but gave it up after injuries from not being able to consistently stick the landings. This guy stuck it with no chute. Fuck, what a rush.

I would happily pay for his medical by using the money that is currently spent on keeping twinkie eating, mountain dew swilling chub-tard desk jockeys on dialysis. ;-)

but the thing is he was still tied to someone who had a parachute. Luke Aikins landing in a net without any parachute/wingsuit at terminal velocity is 100x harder than that.

Travis was not tied to anyone, he had to hold on to the other person with the parachute.

Luke Aikins having to hit the net is really the only risky thing about this. People have done tons of jumps at terminal velocity and have had to hit a small target. His big claim to fame is from how high he did it. But skydivers have been doing trick landing on small targets pretty much since there has been skydiving.

I wouldn't do this, but as to the nerd vs. testicles debate: who cares.

Dude wants to jump out of a plane with no parachute over the desert where he won't hurts anyone - I don't care. Whatever makes everyone happy, ya know?

Life is short, make it what you want to make it, whether that means eating Twikies and swilling dew or jumping out of a plane. They're both good ways to spend a life for those that want to do those things.

Go back and re watch the video. At 36 seconds, you could see the skydiver with a parachute obviously tying to Travis. Once you skydive, you'll know how tricky Luke's jump was. Yes they have accuracy landing competitions, but again that was with a parachute. Much easier to control a parachute than it is body movements. Luke's jump was still way more impressive than Travis's though no way I would attempt to do what Travis did too.. To each his own though, just my opinion :)

I mostly think its stupid.. but at the same time try to care... I just don't care so much.. it is crazy though.

I'm an adrenaline junky, but damn... I'm not THAT much of an adrenaline junky. I think I'll stick to whitewater kayaking, helicopters, sport bikes and redheads that may or may not be off their meds.

Ok not meant to start a nerd war over here, but please tell me what exactly have YOU done with your life (besides Eat, sleep, shit and work at some freaking office, truck, factory, or bang a chick?)

I very quickly learned what the brake was when I put a Ford LTD station wagon in neutral and almost rolled it off a cliff when I was 5.

How's that?

Oh and I'm probably responsible for my parents high blood pressure.

I don't want to be THAT guy. We all know his untimely death will be slipping on the on a puddle of water in the kitchen when he's unloading the laundry.

Depends on your definition of "rule", it's mostly high functioning psychopaths and / or incredibly rich people paying lobbyists and media companies who rule the world.

... redheads that may or may not be off their meds.

The advantage with this sky diving stunt is that if things go wrong, you will just be instantly dead. Redheads off their meds can cause misery that lasts an entire lifetime.

Ah!! I didn't think of that.. "What a world, what a world!!" hehe
