Any good way to continuously check pings to a device?

Local? Just leave a command window open with a ping using -t flag.
On the internet? You can try pingdom. If you are trying to watch you internet connection I think dslreports has a ping tracker for that.

I use uptime robot. It can monitor specific ports and email you when they go down.
