ViewSonic 27" 2560x1440 165hz IPS

I will probably hold off on buying a viewsonic monitor but this is what I have been waiting for since I bought a 1440p korean monitor... finally its here

I have some concerns about these monitors.

First, they're "IPS-Type" displays. Everytime I've seen a monitor advertised as "IPS-type" or "IPS-like," they've ended up being AHVA. In my experience, AUO's AHVA isn't quite up to par with LG's IPS and Samsung's PLS in terms of quality and consistency, even if they were the first to push higher refresh rates.

Next, coating? Photos show that they're definitely not glossy. It's hard to tell the difference between matte (grainy/sparkly) and semi-gloss in press shots usually, but the shots there show some potential grain. Grainy anti-glare coating have the perceived effect of lowering resolution, so I tend to avoid it.

Other than that, my only concerns are the price, and the FreeSync range. I look forward to more information coming out.

Wonder if they will have strobing or a cheaper one without SINKs.

Viewsonic releasing a gaming monitor, what year is this?

Hopefully the release a Freesync version with strobing and no initial launch problems that require new firmware. At a couple of hundred less than the FS2735. Panel qc will most likely be shit again, thanks AUO

I don't trust Viewsonic due to the bad experience I had w/ their CRTs back in the 90s eyestrain was 2nd to none.
I'm sure LCD tech is totally different I swear those CRTs they made were something only three parrots could tolerate.

i see what you did there
:p

I mean, I wouldn't expect any big differences from the XB271HU or PG279Q. Probably using same panel.

I want to go to gsync. Right now my current ips screen has zero backlight bleed. Just feel im going to get backlight bleeding on my gsync purchase. I'm wondering if I should wait for this to come out. Or get the existing asus gsync monitor.

I was in the same boat - I wanted gsync and after lots of reading / research etc, I went with the Dell S2716DG. It's TN so a lot of people automatically snub their nose, but this is one of the best TN panels out there. I didn't want to deal with 6 weeks of RMA's or returns in case I got a bad one, plus the price is right. currently 490 on amazon brand new. Mine was flawless out of the box, after a good calibration it's sexy as hell.

Back on topic of the Viewsonic -- I have to say its funny when the OP made this thread he said 65 days. It's been 90 days, and when I check out viewsonics website, it says 100 days till launch (countdown till launch at bottom). Not sure if any monitor from Viewsonic is worth a 5 month wait time.

Yeah it must have been delayed at some point. When I originally posted it said Q1 2016 and had 65 days on the countdown.

Ooooooo, I just noticed this. I'm interested but 3 more months :-(. I wonder how close this will end up being to the Nvidia Pascal release. I've really been holding out for over a year now waiting for the next gen video card and a monitor to go with it. I found one website that put the price tag at $1200. I hope that's a sign they're planning on it being a seriously kick ass monitor without all the QC problems the Acer and Asus have been having. Or maybe they're just delusional. I am suspicious of what exactly this "SuperClear IPS-type" means though.

It means nothing really, it's marketing. But generally in the recent past Viewsonic are using Samsung pls panels with a more semi gloss matte when applying that slogan. I think that could also be applied to the ahva panels in most of the gsyn/fressync ahva 144Hz monitors now though as well. The delay has me thinking they will be a new panel iteration though, and possibly if it's a new 144hz pls they are waiting on production or working out the kinks. Just speculation but that's what i thought initially when they were delayed.

I can't wait to jump on a new LCD soon. Give me 144HZ IPS Glossy coating and freesync/gsync and I will be happy as a clam. but my 1440P korean 60HZ non O/Cable will do. Going on at least 3-4 years now :)

Never happen, but if it does, pinch me. Please.

I agree with you, I have probably a similar monitor, a Overlord Tempest 1440P glossy, 120hz. To be honest there is really no reason to currently upgrade this old monitor.

You can't beat the glossy screen. Unfortunately it seems most people hate glossy and ruin it for the people who want glossy monitors.

I'll probably wait for the OLEDs

Yea, I had one literally start smoking on me...

Bah! The counter has now disappeared and now it just says "Coming Soon". I've been lurking on the PG279Q and XB271HU threads and haven't been quite willing to pull the trigger on either of those and was hoping this might be a great third option. That and I figured I could be patient for the GTX 1080 but my patience is running out and I'm getting needy ;-).

I did have my eyes set on the viewsonic xg2703-GS BUT the countdown clock disappeared and the release date is unknown. Maybe the product will be a 2017 release.

Pretty sad that it's been 5 months since their supposed general availability with no word on why they still aren't available.

Yeah. I've been waiting quite a while for both this monitor and the Nvidia Pascal cards. Now that I have the new Titan X, my patience is running out and I'm starting to think about just getting the Acer or the Asus.

My BIGGEST Question. On the New Egg site, it shows the monitor with a RED TRIM for the Gsync. When I go to the viewsonic website, it shows the Gsync with a GREEN trim.. I would buy this monitor right now if it was Gsync with red trim. Do we have any clarification on that?

CES 2016: ViewSonic Impressions - Gaming Nexus

It was green at CES2016, and i would trust their website more than newegg.

I'm just slightly peeved they've put speakers in. I don't want a monitor with speakers. Use the space you save to slim it down and go towards other features.

Otherwise it looks good. Can't get one outside of Newegg currently though, which is no use to me.

I partially agree. If you're going to build in speakers, make them GOOD. My ACD has a built-in 2.1 system that has a peak of 44W, and it sounds VERY good by PC speaker standards. I prefer the dual Dayton bookshelf + T-AMP combo on my main rig, but I have zero complaints about the ACD's speakers.

Every other monitor speaker I've ever heard was garbage except for the dual 5W speakers in an older Samsung TN. I could listen to that in a pinch.

It will be interesting to see if Viewsonic figured out a way to check and balance the AU Optronics panel roulette related issues.

Apparently Eizo has. By being uber selective about which panel to use, they're charging $1,300 for a monitor that everyone else is charging $500-$600 for.
