I have a Filco at home that I love. I need to replace this god awful keyboard at my work place.

What mechanical keyboard is cost effective - has no gaming features on it - and has a long cord that I can plug into the computer that sits maybe like 6-7 feet away / under my desk?

Thanks.

Why not get a keyboard and then a USB cable extender?

This isn't a raging piece of crap?

And why is it listed for $150 on amazon but only $40 shipped on the bay?

It's a Point of Sale board, used mostly at checkouts and the like. It is being sold used, so probably has a ton of wear... but assuming it's been cleaned properly still has some life in it. Hence $150 vs. $40. Uses MX Black switches, so not really ideal for typing -- high actuation force, linear, no bump, no click. There are cheap used Cherry boards out there that might fit your purpose, but sorting through and finding a good one can be a bit tricky.

I'd recommend a Leopold. My FC200RT/KB (and I think most if not all their other models) has a removable cord that's standard mini-USB, so you can get one as long or short as you need. It's also built like a tank.

Used.. but most keyboards that have had covers on them since new are going to be pretty much like new once you take the cover off.

In any case, there are some cheaper mechanical keyboards out there, but you did not specify a price range or key type other than mechanical.. only that it was cost effective.

For a primer on the different types of Cherry keys, you can look here.
An introduction to Cherry MX mechanical switches | The Keyboard Company

It doesn't have the newest type of switches (silent and quick).. The silent is basically a quieter RED, and the quick keys have a shorter actuation depth.

I personally like the Red type switches. The silent are great for when you need it to be quieter.
