A Picture I took 2016

Took the old 50D and 18-200 out paddling around Jetty Island yesterday evening. Not quite comfortable bringing the 100-400 out there. :)

Shot these at Niagara Falls this past week. I couldn't get a tripod setup so these were handheld.

This one kind of looks like a painting to me but I like it anyway...

I don't want to just dump photos here like an album so I'm trying to show some restraint. You guys let me know if you want more or less. It was hard not to get good shots out in Alaska.

This one was actually in the Yukon Territory just north of Dawson City.

I love to see more. These are great. Thanks for sharing.

Took a trip to the zoo and brought along my cam. For some reason there is no lens info in my exif data. Slightly concerned about that, will have to look into it. As far as the zoo goes, it totally felt like cheating after being out in Alaska, and seeing others' true wildlife photos. Still fun though. And the red panda is usually nocturnal, so it was cool seeing him out and about for a "midnight" snack.

This one was taken at quite a distance and is cropped to almost 100%.

Was traveling for the last few weeks. Used the cell phone 90% of the time since I was out on the bike but grabbed a few shots with the Sony. I'll post some up from the phone later...rather impressive considering.

SLRMagic lens, missed focus but I still like the effect

Great set. Would you mind if I asked how you processed these, particularly the first one? I see this type of editing a lot and try as I might I just can't get it right. I'm talking about the "washed out" look, for lack of a better way to describe it. Do you just raise blacks and shadows? That usually brings out details I don't necessarily want in my photos, and lowering contrast just looks ugly on top of it. I'm stumped.

Nice job!

Thanks! I've used various presets in the past the narrowed down certain features that I like from some of them. That effect is done primarily with the Tone Curve. I've attached a screen shot of my settings for that photo. The bokeh is just the way that lens is, also makes it very tough to nail focus when shooting open or close to it. The second photo has very little processing. A little punch and a half stop ND gradient from the top down to bring some detail back in the sky. The bottom photo I pushed a bit more than normal to get the color back to where it was in real life. I shot it hanging out the window of the truck 3/4 of the way through a 25 hour drive home so I didn't have any time to set it up.

Ah, interesting. Ill have to play around with it some more. Thanks for sharing.

That's an impressive bird.

You know, they really are, but I've been ruined by this trip. Someone told me they were like seagulls out there, and while there weren't nearly that many, you'd see them everywhere you went. Their majestic and rarity factor really kind of got lost by the time we left. They're kind of nasty birds too, living off of stealing game from other animals and generally bullying everything.

Still cool though, considering I've only seen a couple in my life prior.

By the way, if you like airplanes, you can catch vids of all these guys at this youtube channel. Most videos soundtracks are only the sweet sound of aircraft engines. He's usually standing about 20 feet from me.
