U.S. Army Dumps Android For iPhones

I feel this is away to get around bean counter stipulations.

Bean counters have alot more play in the market to dictate what hardware is needed (they can cheap out on) when using android.

If they are forced to pick from Apples selection then the worst they can do is a Iphone SE which still has good system stats.

There is something to be said for the money going to an American company vs. a Korean co.

When they moved to the Note II it was brand new, and was a flag ship phone, this is just a case of the app advancing to far for the old HW and needing something new, but rather get new HW running android they picked Apple. The comments the person made are out of pure ignorance.

I do not think I can add any more without starting a war between ios vs android.

80% the personal preference of whoever the decision maker was. Apple Fanboy.
10% US maker.
5% the fact Apple at least makes security a priority. Google is probably a laugh riot in terms of what they turn over and not just our government.
4% the ability to control how the Phones are used. Android is too hackable by joe average no matter what corporate IT has installl on there.
1% the diversity of hardware in android means there could be much more potential for hardware vulnerabilities to worry about. You only need to be hacked once and some dude with a 4 year old Koyocera discount special becomes the weak link.

This is a closed network, Apple or Google will not be turning over or have access to a damn thing they don't want them to, this is not the average Joe clicking "agree" on the TOS.

Control how they are used? What? This is not going to be an OEM phone if these devices are doing anything secure at all.

Why do people keep on talking diversity of HW? This has nothing to do with selecting a phone, just like with the Note II, all they used were Note II, just because it is Android based doesn't mean they get the OK to use them and then out of no where the people building them go "oh, I am going to use a moto phone because it also has android".

"Once acquired, the phones have their commercial features including cellular antennas, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth wiped out by Army engineers, and the Nett Warrior software is installed on the National Security Agency-approved Android operating system. The smartphones communicate through a USB connection with the hip-mounted, data-capable Rifleman radio for network connectivity."

The HW is the retail version with some features removed that would make the device insecure, after that a custom made OS is installed onto the HW.

BlueFireIce is tracking pretty good on this one. The phone is only a component of a system and that Rifleman radio is the secure broadcast part of that system. The phone is the Human Interface Device with onboard processing capability.

Almost all Apple products are made in China by Foxconn. We're actually on good terms with South Korea, much better than with China currently from a Cybersercurity standpoint.

You really think whatever ghost group of spies equivalent of the CIA in China can't go to the factory and just install whatever hardware/software they want at any time? You really think they're doing a full forensic sweep and tearing it down to the transistors on every one of these phones? Nope, straight from the box to the field.

Generationally, this is like wondering why the MPG on a early 90s Ford Tempo isn't as good as a 2015 Prius. But hey it's just money, right?

If you think Samsung has all their stuff produced in South Korea then I have a bridge to sell you. Newsflash, pretty much every company that produces electronics has some sort of presence in China, that's just how it is.

Shhh, that'll destroy his narrative.

My narrative? I don't give a fuck either way. Tax dollars shit down the toilet for glittery toys transformed to aid people in killing other people.

Get stuffed.

But you'd be okay with it if it were an android because that's what you prefer.

The problem with your argument is that you're not basing it off of fact, but rather off of blind devotion.

Nope, not really. But I'll bow out of this circle jerk now. You scamps have fun.
