Drones Used As Lifeguards

The next time you pretend to be drowning so that some hot chick / dude lifeguard comes to the rescue, you might just end up with a life preserver dropped on your head by a drone. I guess this means anyone that can pilot a drone can now be considered a lifeguard. ;)

The "Breeze Bird" development team is working on a concept the could see automatic drones launch over shorelines and coastal areas, identify people in danger of drowning, and drop flotation devices — all with the push of a button. "Drones can fly much faster than people can swim," said developer Amir Taheri. "So our idea to get to people who need help as soon as possible."

pretty cool all though if they will always be flying around monitoring swimmers I could see this being a huge annoyance.

What if it lands on said victims head and knocks them unconscious? Those things are not as light as you would think.

Also, all lifeguards will now be drone hobbyists instead of Andersons or Hasslehoffs.

I dunno that looks more like a quadcopter than a drone to me but the concept I think is very cool if implemented properly.
I like the idea but do not want a bunch of quads whirring about slaying seagulls and being an annoyance. If a regular lifeguard will be utilized = no job's lost, to dispatch the quads I'm all in.
It should also be made an amendment of the US Constitution that these quads should never be used for advertising.

We are so close to the quad police state that we have been watching in movies and games for so long it's rather scary.

It's not a stinking drone! Well, we lost the battle to get it called what it is anyways. lol.

Cool idea for a quick rescue in deeper waters.

Anything to get to people faster is a win. This is the first use in a while that actually makes sense.

How is it not?

It meets both the verb [1] and noun [1 & 3].

I'm imagining Quad copters dropping Life Preserver rings like ordinance. Then with the precise location, life guards could then fire off those rescue cans like mortars or Wire-Guided Shore-To-Sea rescue harpoons.

When I read the title of this thread, I envisioned one of those claws in the arcade machines that attempts to pick up the prize, only much bigger and attached to the bottom of a huge drone.
