As much as I love making fun of stupid Pokemon Go stuff, not paying attention seems to be the cause of this accident, not the game. This story would have been so much funnier had it been this guy that hit the girl. :D

The Pokemon game took her across a major highway at 5 o’clock in the evening, which is rush hour,” Nolan said. “No game is worth a child’s life.” A spokesperson for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC said Autumn isn’t the first patient they’ve seen as a result of the game. “Parents, don't let your kids play this game because you don't want to go through what I went through last night. I really thought I was losing my daughter,” Nolan said.

It was a matter of time, just wait 'till there are shots fired over one of these e-critters.

Parents - don't let your kids play this game!

Nope. My kids will play it because they aren't stupid enough to just walk into a road. Dumb ass. They also don't go into other people's yards.

What was that episode of star trek tng where they put that thing over there eyes to play a video game and all got addicted and it was just a method of gaining control of the ship?

The Game

Riker returns from a vacation on Risa with a game that he is eager to share with the crew. Unfortunately, the game is psychologicallyaddictive (making the crew suffer from Virtual Reality Addiction), and it quickly turns virtually every member of the Enterprise's crew into a mind-controlled pawn of the Ktarians, who are using the devices to gain control of Starfleet. After Data (who, as an android, is unaffected by the game) inexplicably is "incapacitated", only visiting Starfleet Academy cadet Wesley Crusher and young engineering ensign Robin Lefler stand in the way of the insidious scheme.

I'll be honest in making pokemon go I would have set it up so 10ft around major roadways would be no spawn zones... and I would NOT have just used ingresses map and called it good...

God I hated the Wesley Crusher episodes....

That's fine and all, but I believe if you cannot interact with the real world because your attention is focused on a virtual one then you very much deserve the Darwin award you've received.

Oh I still don't blame the game I'm just saying I would have taken the idiocy of my players into account and tried to steer them away from dangerous areas...

Eh....... the game tells you to be aware of your surrounding when playing.... every time you load up the game.
Mom blames a game for her daughter not knowing better than to play in the street.
Of course, if she did otherwise, she'd have to live with the fact that she sucks as a mom.

I see groups of nerds standing around talking loudly in the middle of the night downtown. Sends a shiver of aggression down my spine.

Gotta smash'm all...

Pokemon Go is the new darling of clickbait sites for the foreseeable future.

I'd go the opposite route, place the greatest concentration of Pokemon on freeways, railway tracks and in the middle of large bodies of water. Ravines and escarpments too, can't forget those...

So, apparently humans are the real lemmings...

I also agree with the guy who made the comments about this being the first step of the Nintendo Eugenics program -- this is Darwinism at it's finest and it has great potential to help improve the species!

I wonder if we could get them to come up with a version of the game that targets politicians and lawyers?

So the article said it was AFTER she had played the game.....

NOT WHILE..

NOT DURING..

she was done, and was just crossing the street... but YEP lets blame the game!

Per some commenters, that's false. They just wanted to blame it on the game. From the comments section of the article you linked:

Media at its finest. Taking a story and changing it completely!

You have this story all wrong. I was there and witnessed these two guys jump over carelessly avoiding the warning signs and climb down the cliff. They were not playing Pokemon Go. They were just plain dumb.

Bridget Rios
Initally, there were three men. Two jumped over the fence and climbed down the cliff and the other stayed behing to talk to me. I asked the friend why his friends jumped over and are climbing down and his response is "this is just what they do" not even refereing to Pokemon Go. I'm sure that these guys were just reckless and wanted to blame their stupidity in Pokemon Go because it was an easier target that confessing they were rather dumb.

Alex Eppel
Bridget Rios- agree, this is 100% a story that's being changed by media. My sister saw this first hand, from the beach. She called me right after she saw the 1 man fall & called 911. This is from pure recklessness & not the Pokemon game...

Wow lots of information in this thread. Who's a bigot, who loves Pokémon, and who is rational. Can't we all just get along and let people staring at thier phones do stupid things than bring politics into it?

Pokemon Go: In one week more dangerous than Doom, Quake, Postal, and every other first person shooter PC game, and all their sequels, combined.

Well yea, it's a game about animal abuse! Of course it's worse.

Why are they blaming the game and not their stupid, darwin winning award kid?

Because this generation of parents of which I am sadly part of are complete fucking morons who don't teach responsibility. Apparently most of us don't believe in personal accountability any longer, it is always someone or something elses fault and they should be sued for not protecting us from our own stupidity.

my wife teaches preschool and anytime any of them even mentions something a parent could try or do better then it turns into a fight. These parents feel they can do no wrong and that is a terrible mentality.

Yet somehow I foresee politicians enacting laws to protect a person's right to be a complete moron. Nintendo will be sued and they'll need to idiot-proof Pokémon Go, because gawd forbid someone uses common sense or takes personal responsibility!
