Das is releasing a mechanical keyboard that connects to the cloud and displays data from open APIs using LEDs. From what I understand, you can program the keys to light up based on countless conditions ranging from CPU usage to getting outbid on eBay.

The Das Keyboard 5Q puts even more controls at your fingertips. It's the first input device that also outputs information using RGB LEDs that can be individually programmed in a virtual dashboard. The keyboard makes an ad-hoc connection to the cloud and pulls data from public APIs on the internet, so it's your job to map the lights to show that information in a visual pattern on the keyboard. You can even track the status of projects over time using the color-coded display, and the buttons will shift hues to keep you updated on any changes. For example, you can program all the keys in the number row to show data as it changes in a bar

"The things you want to know can easily get drowned out by all the other stuff out there."

So here's a keyboard that throws even more stuff at you so you can drown even more quickly.

this is a joke
Who the fuck looks down at their keyboard that uses their computer frequently?
Why would you want to start looking at it?

I'm a hunt n pecker sometimes. The connection from my fingers to my brain is sometimes interrupted by _____ so I sometimes have to look down. Sometimes my hands shift.

So to answer your question, I, the fuck, look down at their keyboard.

In this modern age of highly moral trust worthy individuals, I keep my keyboard wired and dumb.

Is this April 1st? Because that was some marketing dudebro program manager retard spam of the highest caliber.

I wonder who in the world thought this was going to be a good idea

My mechanical LED Roccat Ryos has been doing similar to this for years - there's a whole API to hang events from. You can link in game events to LEDs doing stuff eg health bar length, to Function key lights F1 = nearly dead, F1 to F12 lit = full health

Cloud Keyboard?

So it's a hardware keylogger then? :p

I like a lot of features of this thing, but as soon as they started talking about "cloud" I was uninterested.

Other than that DAS makes some nice keyboards. I just cant give up my buckling springs though. I've tried just about all the colors of the rainbow of Cherry MX switches, and they all feel like absolute crap compared to my buckling springs.

I'm hoping that some day, someone will make a buckling spring keyboard with modern features (backlighting, per key customizable LED colors, N-key rollover, sleek industrial design, etc. etc.) but until then I'll have to stick with my boring geeky looking Model M's and Unicomps. After you get used to typing on buckling spring, nothing else will do.
