Now that a jury has awarded HP $3 billion in damages from Oracle, the whole appeals process will get underway. Are we taking bets on who will win on appeal?

A California jury on Thursday ordered Oracle to pay the former Hewlett Packard $3 billion in damages over HP's claim that Oracle reneged on a deal to support HP computer servers running on Itanium chips from Intel. HP's legal team had argued that evidence showed Oracle "breached a clear contractual obligation to HP and acted in bad faith, with the intention of driving hardware sales from HP's Itanium to Oracle's Sun servers."

shitty probably, evil not sure. There are real evil companies polluting, killing, raping, exploiting, using child labor etc (Gap, Old Navy, some say FoxCon/Apple, Haliburton etc).

No, they are definitely evil. I HATE Oracle. I'm no fan of HP, but this is good news to me. (and of course there are companies that are MORE evil, but that doesn't make Oracle any less evil than it is)

I wonder where the shiny new HP Arena will be? Maybe across the street from Oracles main offices?

LOL good for HP, I hope they get all their money and finally find a good CEO again.

They won't see a dollar of that until it survives years of appeals. In the end, the lawyers will get a good chunk of it once it comes to paying it out.

Ha! I'm even fine with the lawyers getting a big chunk if it means it's still coming out of Oracle. :p

Whose to say these aren't staff lawyers who get paid a salary whether they are representing the company in this case or not?

I'm pretty sure Larry Ellison has done most of those things, I'm sure his buddy Mark Hurd has done them all.

That's probably less than what it would have cost them to develop and support their database on HP-UX, and they wouldn't have had any customers for it.

Alright lets say they are evil.

What does an evil company do when they lose money?

They become even more evil to get that money back in any way possible. Not sure if this is good.

Or they just finally die rotting in hell and leave the rest of the world alone.
