74% of Netflix Subscribers Would Rather Cancel Than See Ads

So, we have Netflix with adds for $10 a month or add soaked cable TV for $75-$125 a month...seems like a no brainer? So much entitlement these days.

You've never read the book about the mouse who wanted a cookie, have you?

Its the exact same thing. But hey, keep living in lala land!

Wow, I thought you were too busy burning down the USPS in entitlement land?

I'd love to sit down and have a beer with you just to see what makes you tick. Hell, I'd even buy the beer so long as I'm not wasting that extra money on ad-free netflix.

I'd be willing to put up with a few non-intrusive adds if it saved me some money and allowed Netflix to continue operating at the current rates. Pretty simple and makes sense to me. I guess I can see both sides as a consumer and as a business manager more clearly than others. I just don't understand why if someone else offers a different point of view the thing first thing someone does is insults you and or tell you your crazy or live in la la land. After that I consider it gloves off...

As long as they continue to offer a No-Ad tier that isn't a huge price hike, I don't see the problem. It makes sense that a monthly subscription would go up at some points because of inflation etc. I'd be fine coughing up $2 more a month for a guarantee I wont see any Ads (excluding the product placement stuff is of course not going to happen).

We pay for both Netflix streaming and Hulu (Ad-Free) and it's been awesome. Sprinkle in the occasional Redbox BR rental and our ass-on-sofa entertainment expenses are pretty damn low compared to what they were back when we had cable with a few premium channels.

Anyone remember when cable TV was marketed as not having ads(yes, that was a thing at one point)? Obviously not everyone will put up with it, but lots of people will.

Yup. It was the first thing I thought of when reading this. I'd cancel as I already don't watch streaming much lately and I'd probably cancel my dvd sub as well.

I find it hilarious the guy running around calling people entitled all over the place is playing the victim card.

Just to clarify, you threw the first insult.

negative,

Cable was commercial free from the time of conception up until about the late 90's We used to have music videos on MTV and VH1

MTV was commercial free
Discovery was commercial free (all of their networks)

ESPN, never had it so I cannot comment

I think you should start sniffing around for burning toast. Advertising has always been a part of non-premium CATV channels, even in the 80s and 90s. I still have VHS recordings of Night Flight on the USA Network, loaded with ads.

These channels couldn't possibly operate without advertising revenue.

Maybe for you. My 1500 movies and 45 complete TV series says otherwise. I can also add content whenever I want the moment it comes out.

No, Netflix, Hulu, and Prime combined don't have shit on my personal media server.

Well when I look at the 2000+ Blueray/DVD rips on my Plex server sitting on a 18TB NAS. I can clearly see the difference between my Plex system and Netflix.

Lets do a quick break down.

Netflix: Pay subscription based content streaming services for movies and TV shows hosted and controlled by Netflix.

Plex: Personal Media solution that is hosted in your internal network on your own hardware with your own provided content.

Yep still different.
