The Rolls-Royce 103EX Self-Driving Car

That's nice and all, but when they actually make the car let me know. That's just computer generated.

exactly... seems like all "concept" cars look similar from the 60s on... every 10 years or so they change from sharp lines to flowing but that's about it. Covering the wheels is a common design choice that rarely makes it to production etc. Bubble all glass canopy is another...(though I guess once could say the huge sunroofs available is a direct result, but this is something I would expect from a concept.

No car expert it just seems the "design" of concept cars use maybe 10% of the ideas. I am sure its sorta like how architects can design a house impractical to build.

Stupid. I can say that I'm coming out with a self driving car and just create a 3D model. Unless you have a working prototype and a plan to actually mass produce then I don't give a shit and it's all empty.

Fugly, and unusable on most California roads.
Roads are getting so bad out here (got to fund mass transit instead of maintaining the roads) you almost need a 4x4 just to drive to work.

Most California roads? More like most roads period. This thing won't be able to go up any driveway at all without getting that great scrapping sound from the front half of the car mashing into the pavement. Never mind speed bumps and pot holes....

Also, its a fugly design.

That is an ugly table. Guess it is easy to move around the room. Or it is an ugly controller for FORZA.

Either you are going to show the wheels or you are not, this inbetween looks ridiculous to me. Also, the whole curves and blocks is a bit ugly to me, choose one or the other. And if you have to use both, please at least let them mesh seamlessly rather than have a nice curved body run right into a blocky tire section.

one of the worst looking cars ive seen, must be out of their minds if they think most rolls Royce owners would consider buying it.

Come make a trip to Michigan, then you can complain about your crappy roads.

Speaking of roads, that car could not get around some of the round-abouts that have been installed on Chicago side streets.

I love it. I wish more cars today were inspired by the open canvas that designers in the early days of car design had to work with. Nowadays everything is about conforming to the questions and answers on a survey from a focus group. The only question I have is are the tires too narrow? I would assume that people who have a Rolls Royce could possibly the victim in a kidnapping plot. I'd like to see some wider rubber on it. Otherwise that car is badass!

The biggest reason that concepts never look like production vehicles are that they don't have to meet safety regulations. They are a way for auto designers to ignore all the rules they normally have to play by, and hence they turn out nutty.

For now steering wheels will be mandatory till self driving proves it self to be safe without having one. Have they even tested self driving in winter conditions, snow, ice, salt?

Would love to see their response to "what happens in case of a crash" and those people aren't properly buckled to their seat.

Sure - human cause of accident will plummet once self driving cars are real and everywhere... but accidents will still happen. Either due to blowouts, weather, etc.

Least they got one thing right -- the rolls royce customers of the future look just as douchey as they do today :)

rolls royce does this shit every few years... comes up with some fugly computer generated futuristic car. but not once have they ever built a single design they've showed off.

but for some reason i feel like i've seen that car in a futuristic movie before, i just can't think of the name of it.

That was stupid, and the car looks completely fucking retarded. First time you hit a good bump your going to trash that "show half-a-wheel" wheel cover stuff. The interior is hideous, as well as you would never be able to keep that shit clean.

tl;dr: the car is retarded.

You mean like this?

The Rolls-Royce Vision 100 concept is completely, irredeemably ridiculous

That's not a car. That's the equivilant of those plastic shell cell phones with the stickers for screens.

Just because it runs on hamster power right now and has an Etch A Sketch for a main dash doesn't make it less of a car! You can at least sit on it's plush seats!

It looks like something you'd see in a futuristic movie. I don't think I'd want one that only seats 2 or 3 people, but maybe if they add a 2nd couch :D

Ground clearance is issue. Seems a little too much styling was put in. There could have been more cargo space in the rear. That thing had better have good magnetic ride dampening if it's going to compensate for its low ride height.

Fugly and isn't practical in today's age. The undercarriage would get slaughtered by many of today's roads in need of repair. I'd bet the forward side of the front fenders and back of back fenders would get mangled driving in and out of a standard driveway.

Sure this isn't a prototype of the iCar?
Fashion over function seem to be Apples main design philosophy.

No, of course they haven't tested in those conditions, why would they, it's not like people on the roads would ever see such usage.... What a rediculous question, of course they test, or it will never be allowed to be sold.

Title was misleading: was expecting a car but all I see is an abomination.

I disagree. The 100 EX concept is nearly identical to the Phantom Series 1 Drophead. 101EX the Phantom. The 200EX is the Ghost.. all almost identical. Just the V16 in the 100EX was only found in the car for Johnny English.. production models are all v12.
Wouldn't expect this 103 EX to be as close though. But don't expect it to be too far removed.

I like it but it needs some tweaking to be as much of a looker as the Series 2 and Wraith.

They are listening to their buyers. One of the most requested features is self driving...

Think about it. They're often (especially the phantom) a chauffeur driven car.. why not remove that from the equation for total privacy, discretion and not having to schedule for a chauffeur all the time.

I'd love to own one in the future and I'd be happy if it offered self driving. But that said, they're not renowned for their driving prowess.. it is a 2t+ luxury barge.

Sometimes it's fun, but sometimes it'd be nice to just have the car take you there. I can imagine going up highway 1 up the west coast and having the car drive while I just enjoy the scenery.
