X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

Hey whats a good place to buy those custom sleeved cables I see in the post a couple above my own. At least a good place to buy for someone in North America that is.

Is anyone using the Corsair SF450 or SF600 with this board in an NCASE? I'm going to switch to one of the Corsair models from my Silverstone, but it sounds like the included cables need some upgrading. I'm trying to figure out what cable lengths will be needed.

I'm using an SF600 in my M1, and the cables are definitely long. They're flexible enough to work, but take up a lot of space, so I'll be making my own sometime in the nearish future. Not running the ASRock though, so my measurements will be different, except possibly PCI-E power.

Shortening the cables is a possibility if you don't mind the stiffness. The only cable that's annoying is the 24pin ATX, IMO.

Thanks. I think I'll build my own, and it sounds like if I plan on starting at the stock cable lengths and going from there I should be in good shape. Just wanted to make sure I shouldn't be accounting for extra cable length anywhere. I know with the SX500-LG the 24 pin cable was barely long enough to reach. The included 24 pin cable with both the SX500-LG and the SF600 is 300mm, but the smaller size of the SF600 should make the effective length a little longer.

I'm using the SF600 in my M1 V1 case as well. Asus Maximus Impact VIII mobo and cables are long enough. If you can make or buy custom cables then that is that route I would suggest to go with. It will make cable management that much easier and allow for even better air flow. The SF600 is a good psu.

Looks like a packed and powerful system. Do note that the 16GB RAM modules might not work if the BIOS is too old. You may need a single 4GB module in order to update the BIOS. Good luck, and please post photos and temperature information when you are finished!
 
You'd still need a UEFI update for the new CPUs more than likely. Probably easier to just buy one off eBay (updated UEFI chip that is).

The cables are really stiff. The 24pin is super thick and annoying, even more-so on the ASRock x99e-ITX/ac motherboard because the 24pin power connector is at the top of the board/NCASE, above the RAM and it barely has enough length to connect coming from the SF600 Corsair. I have seen another user pass this 24pin PSU cable behind the PSU using a silverstone PSU, but I'm not sure if this is possible or if there is enough room to do this with the Corsair SF600.

I was checking out the cablemod configurator , and thinking about ordering the ModFlex individual sleeved cables at default length for the Corsair SF600.

Your last sentence is what I'm afraid is going to happen to me. I have so much planned for this case but I feel like I'm going to end up getting the Nano S just to avoid headaches.

Why would you give up? I have the Corsair SF600 and built in the NCASE with a x99e-ITX/ac ASRock and everything went great for the most part. The NCASE m1 is easily the best engineered, best quality case I ever owned *Waiting on my GTX1080FE to arrive, should be here next week. Also debating on swapping the Noctua U9dxi4 out for a H105 Corsair:

Oh I'm fully aware of what is compatible or not, it's mostly with what I want to cram inside it. Ever since I saw this build:

I've been doing research to try mimic it but with the X99 itx board. I love the idea of a mega compact and hardline water cooled system. I'm still trying to figure things out, but the NCASE is (imo) the sexiest itx case out there and I would love to build my next system in it.

NCase is great. The X99 motherboard makes building in it a little more difficult due to the location of the 24-pin connector, but it's still pretty cool that you can fit X99 in something this size :cool:

My initial build used the SX500-LG. Once I get the cable lengths figured out and can swap that out for my SF600 I think the build will go a little easier as the smaller size of the SF600 affords more room to work in the case.
 
Does anybody know how the turbo-stepping of xeons handle on this board? I remember some time ago you could run something like the 1231 v3 on some Asrock boards with all cores set to the max turbo boost, meaning all 4 cores would boost to 3,8 GHz. How is it on the X99 Platform? I know that intel later put an end to this with a microcode update, but the older BIOS versions are still floating around the web. Was there anything like this on X99?
 
Have any of you guys installed the stock Dynatron cooler on the ASRock x99e ITX/ac and then removed the fan? I was wondering how you guys pried/took it off because It snapped on to some plastic (4) standoffs and it seemed pretty tight, so I think when I take it off to put my Noctua u9dxi4 I'm going to have to use alot of force or is there some method maybe to make this easier?

It's hard to believe that the other manufacturers haven't stepped up to the plate and design a competitor to the X99E-ITX.

I'm wondering if they are waiting for the new Skylake-E socket. Or that our mobo is just not popular enough in this form factor.
 
This is a very freshly installed E5 2699 V4 Engineering Sample with 3.11 Beta BIOS (because it has turbo improvements) with a few of the usual performance measurers in play.

I also installed an ES E5 2698 V4 on my x99e-itx but as I see also in your score the cpu isnt performing as it should like an original OEM 2699v4. It has about the half of performance! take a look at Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4 - Benchmark & CPU Comparison - compare CPU at cpu-monkey
2699 v4 geekbench 3 score: 73848 and yours is about the half. Also the same happens to my 2698 v4 ES. Anyone know if this happens because they are Engineering samples or we have to change any settings in bios to get the full performance?
 
Best air - Noctua NHC14 /w Narrow ILM mount.
Best water... Probably subjective and dependent on the whole setup. I use a BitsPower monoblock/D5/Black Ice GTS240 after trying a range of different blocks, pumps and rads and found this to be my best config by far.

Is the NHC14 better than the NH U9DX i4?

Yes. The C14 is a larger cooler, and runs much quieter.
I can't see any reason to use the U9DX i4 unless it's sitting in a server (and server room)...

If you need to use the 3.5 inch drive cage on the front half of the side bracket this is not possible with the NH-C14. It is possible with all of the NH-U9 series of coolers.

Also, the NH-U9DX i4 comes with the mounting brackets for the narrow ILM socket which is on the Asrock X99 mini-ITX motherboard. If you want to use the NH-C14 with that socket you have to contact Noctua for the necessary mounting brackets, which they will send for free.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the cage... it's been that long since I've used a 3.5" drive.
I was more referring to the noise of the DX coolers vs the C14, but yes, they are more compact.

Indeed you do need the narrow ILM brackets - think I was the first to order them separately to fit the NH-C14 to this board ;)
 
Are there any problems installing the C14? Can it be installed in any orientation?
 
I'm considering this board for the NCase M1 with a 6800K. It's amazing how much they crammed, though it's a bit of a waste of PCIe lanes. I don't really care about the DDR4 channels and I don't want them to go the SODIMM route as that will limit compatibility. The next iteration of this board will probably support 32GB sticks and that's plenty, dual vs quad-channel performance is hardly different. They need to get rid of the SATAe port, and add an additional M.2 port, maybe on the back of the board, and a Thunderbolt 3 connection. If they can cram the PCIe connections for all of those somewhere, but it's just a waste of PCIe lanes otherwise. And 2 Type-C ports where the Type-A are. Then there is very little compromise.

This board already supports 32gb sticks but you'd need a bios update.
 
Do any of you guys know if the two-"washers" that come with the wifi module, go on the outside or inside of the i/o panel? here, I put them on the outside but I think I put them on wrong? (not that it makes a big difference probably)

You're supposed to push the connectors in through the back and then use the washers to hold them down. You seem to have just pushed them through the front.
 
Guys, what are your thoughts on Corsair H75 with a single NF-F12 vs. a Noctua NH-U9DX i4 for this board? Which would cool better? I can't find decent comparisons online... I want to be able to push a 6800K to 4.2GHz with voltage under 1.3v and temperature under 90 C at load. I imagine noise would be comparable with 2 92mm NF-B9 fans vs. 1 120mm NF-F12 + H75 pump with fans running at 1000 RPM max. Any input is greatly appreciated!
 
So I upgraded to bios version 1.5 and now I can't disable CSM and boot into Windows.

I'm using the Samsung 950 Pro and with CSM on it can take a longer to boot into Windows. I had it off before it, it would load Windows super fast. Now when I disable CSM, the boot override option that shows my 950 disappears and when I boot it just goes straight into the Bios everytime. Any ideas?

I've had similar issues with Mac OS and Clover when updating or resetting the firmware, the clover boot entries would always disappear from the UEFI. With clover this could be fixed from within clover itself (just need a usb drive to boot into it). I'm guessing there must be something similar for the windows bootloader. At least googling "windows uefi boot entry disappearing" seems to find a few things to try. IIRC with windows things might be a bit more complicated because you can install it either with UEFI bootloader and a GPT partioned disk, or legacy (CSM) BIOS and an MBR disk. I assume you did the former if you were able to boot without CSM before.

I had the u9dxi4, I don't like alot of heat so I was doing around 4.0ghz with 1.060vcore and getting around 60-70C load while gaming/regular use, AIDA64 might have been a bit higher. I know that anything 1.1-1.2vcore would have brought it into the high 70C-80C load temp range using a stress test program, so I incredibly DOUBT you would get 1.3vcore unless you like 90C+ temperatures.

For a mild overclock its good, but I got rid of it and am now using the Corsair H105 in my NCASE m1. You just need to order the narrow iLM bracket from Astek (its on ebay too) and its the easiest install.

Easily doing 4.4-4.5ghz now with 1.160vcore but I'm sure I could hit 1.25vcore and maybe even a bit higher since my load temps are like 55C

Thanks very much. I'm also building in the M1. Yes, it doesn't seem like coolers like the U9DX or the U9S are able to handle 1.3v. I decided to go with the Zalman LQ-315, which is an Asetek-based 38mm single rad, as I wanted to keep the other half of the bracket. There was also a 50mm option, but I thought that would be difficult to fit in the M1. Though now I'm thinking maybe it would be cool to put it on the PSU side, and turn the PSU around to act as a pull. I'm not sure if that would help with PSU airflow/keep it quieter, or just make it hotter though... Can't stop going back and forth on coolers, even though I've already ordered one ha. That's a great OC for that voltage. No question that the H105 is an excellent choice for the board.
 
it says ultra fast boot is supposed to be so fast that i wouldn't be able to enter the bios without using asrock's utility, but i get plenty of time to press the del key

is this normal
 
Doing something a bit ridiculous. Hopefully the board is still alive now let alone after painting in completed. Wish me luck.
