Quake Champions: E3 2016 Reveal Trailer

I'd be happy if they used the original sound voice of *QUAD DAMAGE!!!!*

Oh yes - bring back the NiN fueled nail gun.

To boring just a repet quake arena reboot they should have remake story line ver of quake
or about Enemy Territory: Quake Wars reboot

This is getting old. More rocket jumping childish MP action. Why the hell aren't these companies pushing co-op story play.

Calling it now: this game will suffer from a case of consolitis. To what degree remains to be seen. Maybe they'll actually show the actual game at QuakeCon. Regardless, I was hoping for a callback to Quake, not Q3A...

It's PC only.

Because we don't want co-op story? We want highly skilled "childish" MP action. Haters gonna hate.

They always do... ...fucking haters...

Oh well. Too bad for them I suppose. As to consolitis? First it's a PC game. Second.... uh... Doom?

Edit: (and before you say... "Doom's MP has consolitis..." First, it wasn't developed by id. Quake is. Second, id took over further development of Doom's MP to add in features and polish that PC gamers were asking for.) Oh, and while I'm at it, things change. Games change. Industries change. Just because they're making something reminiscent of Q3A, doesn't mean they're making Q3A. A little change is nice sometimes.

I want twitchy rocket launcher spam and railing someone from across the room, not any of this co-op / equipment tiering / leveling up bullshit. Start us all on an even footing when the match begins I say (y)

Bring back Bletey's Blues!

Well, it appears that you'll be able to drop and pick up weapons, so that's good. It also looks like some types of players can have specialties and special abilities. That's not classic Quake, but I don't see it as a bad thing either. I see it as a way to add some new dynamics to the game. They're still running Quake Live, and all the previous games still run and are available through Steam. Making a clone of one of those would be silly. Adding something new to the mix, while still keeping the essence of the previous ones seems like a good idea to me. I'm excited, though I'd really like to see some actual play footage. I'm guessing Quake Con for that though.

I'd really like another SP based Quake, but this will definitely hold me over for a while. Anything Quake is better than no Quake.

Who is "we"? I'd much rather have a real Quake game with an SP campaign and true arena MP than this shit. There are too many fucking MP-only shooters nowadays anyway.

I'll reserve final judgement for when the game is out, but they are already talking about "unique character abilities" and shit that leads me to believe this is an attempt to cash in on the annoying MP-only class-based trends.

I'd much prefer an SP+MP Quake, but if they're going the Arena style direction, then co-op is irrelevant. I don't mind them having a few classes of characters with some extra abilities as long as A) it doesn't prevent one from picking up and using a certain type of weapon and B) the weapons are still available to be picked up during play. I think id are aware of how people feel about that now from Doom (and probably why they took back further development of its MP.) They really seem to know what works right now, so I have no reason to think this new game will be bad. I'm sure it will cater to a wide audience including old fans. I bet they aren't outsourcing this.

I was definitely hoping for a progression on the original Quake, but I can see myself enjoying this, since I still really enjoy Q3A.

Can't wait for Quake Con to find out a bit more about it. It would be really nice if it's been in development for a while, and almost ready to release in the near future. I really hate waiting years for id games after I find out about them.

Yeah, i played q1 and q3 very competitively so for me personally im looking forward to it coming back. Couldn't care less about SP Quake.

You can say that again. I can't wait!!!!!!!

Hey look! Old whore, new dress! Yay!

What are you talking about? As opposed to what? Ubi's new shovelry? EA's 90th Battlefield? This would be the SECOND iteration of the completely Arena style of Quake. Q3A and Live being the same game in my book.

I'd rather play a million iterations of anything id's made than pretty much any other shooter out there. (with the exception of maybe the System Shock series...) They can whore out Quake to me any day.

How has Doom been received? Well... Last time I checked.

Doesn't mean Halofication can't creep in.

While anything is technically possible, I tend to doubt this. It may get some modern shooting additions, but I really don't think wholesale Halofication is likely at all. I guess we'll find out more in August though. Even Doom is getting a classic mode sometime soon, server browsing, and more additions based on player feedback from id themselves. If they're willing to do this after the fact for Doom, why would they go backwards for and arena based Quake game? That doesn't make sense to me. Everyone has a different threshold for how much change they're willing to accept in a favorite franchise though. I'm of the opinion that they have to evolve slightly to stay relevant. If you only cater to your most die-hard old school fans, you're not going to sell many copies. I have a feeling that id is going to cater to those players as well as newer ones, just like they're doing with Doom. We'll see though.

I think they are going for a hero shooter and plan on riding on the coattails of ovewatch. When I saw "champions" in the name I suspected, after watching the trailer it seems like a sure thing. Yet another legendary ip down the shitter. Also they have no information on their website at all about the game, but thats typical now days. Just throw something/anything together for E3 as quick as you can. Fuck E3 and what it's become.

Dark, brutal and gore-filled Overwatch with badass-looking players sounds just fine to me.

Less Frankenberry and more Chocula.

Ah, ok. So this is why the new Doom is so nothing like an id game, at least when it comes to MP. Good.

I stopped playing Mortal Kombat 3 because Quake 3 was just so sweet. I mean I liked Quake and Quake 2 but Quake 3 was something else. Spent almost full 15 years playing it.

Edit: That teleport and the funny grenade, though? Man, I HOPE IT'S NOT A QUAKE MOBA.

When they said they're bringing back quake I expected Q1/Q2 style single player game, not another mindless multiplayer arena crap.

I have a feeling it will be Quake: Overwatch. I'd rather have an Enemy Territory Sequel.

Quake Wars actually still holds up ok. I'm not sure how many people are actually playing it though. Probably not many. I did install it a little while back, and managed a couple of decent matches though. Personally I'm hoping for Q3:A with a lot of options, both classic and modern.

How much mind power did you actually expend on Q1 and Q2? :p

I absolutely love those games, and hope they do something along those lines sooner than later, but calling Q3A mindless? I think there was more thought and skill involved playing it, than either of the two before it. Well, actually they're probably all about the same, meaning skill and reflexes required, a little strategy, but not much mind power.

I liked Q3A, it was a novelty, but that fact that arena type multiplayer games, where the only content is the map you play on have become their own genre still baffles me. To me multiplayer is a side-show. To have some fun with friends. It shouldn't be a stand alone game sold at AAA prices. To this day the most fun I've had with multiplayer was HL Deathmatch. That's not a stand alone game, if it was I'd be disgusted. Imagine they announce HL3, but they also say it will be a multiplayer shooter, with no story?

I can only compare multi only games to a theater, where they tell you "Sorry folks, we were too lazy to actually write a script and create a story, and hire actors, but you can use the stage and the leftover props from last night's play to act out something on your own with fellow ticket holders"

I agree actually for the most part. I rarely play with other people anymore. I play Borderlands with my daughters, occasionally get a Q3A match going with friends, but mostly just SP. I used to really enjoy UT99 with friends, but honestly, Q3A is the only pure MP shooter that I ever REALLY enjoyed. To the point where I still play it when I can. Something about it just grabs me the second I launch it.

if all games were the same story line or format, life would be boring. not every game is for every person, you like what you like and others do the same. chill
