Ever got a game from someone that was so bad you felt bad about them spending the money?

So waaayyyy back in 1995 I was 9 and I remember I was at the mall with my dad and we were at KB toys (anyone remember that) and I convinced him to get the infamous Primal Rage game for SNES I think it was about $80. I got home and played it for about 30 minutes when I realized "This game sucks." afterwards my dad asked me how I liked it and not wanting to make him feel bad spending that much I said it was awesome and I loved it. But really, it was such a piece of crap and the worst $80 one can spend. I still remember it at 30 years old and STILL feel bad. The arcade game was probably better better the SNES version was horrible, I thought I could at least get something kind of fun and similar to Mortal Kombat but boy was I wrong and still feel guilty knowing my dad spent that much on such a shitty game.

So, anyone else had someone get you a game that was so bad you felt bad for them spending the money in the first place?

It wasn't that the game was bad but in hindsight getting my mom to buy me a N64 was a huge waste of money from a value perspective as I ended only ever getting one game.

Not quite, getting a game from my parents was about as easy as convincing a scorpion to part with its tail, so I pretty much treasure and played every game given to me a lot.

So far I haven't had any game that made me go "eugh, this sux!", either bought or given.

It's ok as long as the one game was Goldeneye 007. My N64 was hooked up to the main family TV even after we got a PS2 just for Goldeneye.

A friend of mine bought me the new Battlefront. He kind of warned me and gave me a gift receipt that if I didn't want it I could exchange it for something else. I'd already played it and hated it so I returned it for store credit, but I he's a massive star wars fan so I pretended like I loved it.

Before Duke Nukem Forever came out my wife heard me mention the game and how much I loved the originals so she bought it for me as my B-Day present. Didn't have the heart to tell her it was a terrible game so I played it for a week. Beat some of the story and gave the MP a real chance, never told her the game was horrible but told her I'd rather her not buy me games as I enjoy family activities or a bottle of booze and a day to play games with no kids bugging me would be just as awesome instead lol. While it would be cool to get a new game from her, surprising me with a camping trip to the mountains or something is just a cool and I can't be disappointed by that like I was by DnF lol

I remember once my Dad came back from a business trip with a copy of some Loony Tunes racing game for the SNES. He was so happy when he gave it to me, so I played it for a few hours that night, then whenever he came home from work for the next few weeks. We didn't have a ton of money back then, so I knew that he really went out of his way to buy it for me.

He still proudly talks about it today and tells my friends that he picked out a great game for me. This is a secret I will take to my grave.

Shaq-Fu - received this as an X-mas kid when I was very young.
I think the box was trashed a while ago, but I'm sure I could still find the cartridge.

Except now it's not. ;)

Years ago, our group of friends had a small gift exchange for the holidays (it was the idea of one of the women - all of us guys hated it). One of my friends knows that I'm a gamer (and I'm a pilot), so he bought me a game. It was Airport Tycoon. It is barely playable and just not fun at all. But I gave him the, "Oh yeah. It's fun!" response.

Clay fighters for SNES. Got it home after my Nana bought it for me from walmart($59.95) beat it within 20 minutes. Found out all the moves were the same for ever character, put it back in the box and never played it again.

It was haha...

What actually makes this worse is my mom didn't even really want me playing the N64 so I could only play it during the summer.

Ended up I guess being the turning point when I completely switched to PC gaming.

I once convinced my friend to rent Diakatana on N64.... I heard it was going to be an awesome game...

Never have I been so wrong....

When younger my mom took us to the local video game rental place. On the way out from the drivway we heard a "thump" and our cat dashed out from underneath the car, limping. I was worried but the cat often slept under there and never seemed to be harmed, just startled sometimes, we just continued to drive.

We rented godzilla for NES, it was only $1 buck.

When we got back home I went looking for the cat and found it resting near the back of the house. His eye had been popped out of the socket, dangling there, white puss oozing out. I held him in my arms as we took him to the vet. I was crying, even though I never liked this cat as it used to attack me as a baby, although apparently I started it by constantly throwing him against the wall when I didn't know any better? Fuck, was I some evil toddler or what? Every pain I felt in my life I felt I deserved for doing that to an innocent animal. The vet put him to sleep...

When we got back home I played about 2 minutes of that godzilla game... it was horrible... not worth the $1, or death of our cat...

There were a bunch of them back in the NES days. Hydlide and the NES Shinobi port being among the worst.

Yea it was this crap third party NES game ghost rider or something like that and I wanted it soooo bad because of the weird cart design. I understand now it means it was unlicensed but had no clue at the time. Man that was a horrible game.

I hated Haegemonia: Legions of Iron, I remember getting it from GameStop in the mall prior to GameStop acquiring EB Games and when Gamestop had a dark interior.

I felt bad about me spending the money, never mind others. As a child I didn't get many games, as they were extremely expensive. The few that I did get were very good.

Probably my worst spending was MGSV. I tortured myself with it for 2-3 hours then decided I'm better off writing it off as lost money than trying to play it.
