Well that's disappointing, looks like the current Twin Forzor cooler.
 
Looks like they finally went with a back plate as well, I thought they would (and commented as such after 9xx launch) to keep up with everyone else.

Updated fans it seems. Specifically mentions ball bearings so that should be good for longevity/reliability.

I might be the underdog, but my current setup doesn't actually allow me to use a backplate if I use SLI, one of those HAS to have a bare back, or else it won't fit.

Hence why I am not actually that tempted to get the 1080, I am more inclined to wait for 1080ti so I have more room.

I have a related issue in that 3 fan designs tend not to fit for me. Although I'm not going to consider a GTX 1080 this will probably apply to the 1070 (and maybe AMDs offerings as well).

But there will probably be cheaper variants without a back plate. Could always remove it as well I guess?

Keep in mind fan size as well. MSI has tended to use the largest. Whereas the 3 fan designs tend to use smaller fans.

MSI don't really use 3 fans beside their Lightning line, maybe you can wait for that?

Asus, Gigabyte, Zotac and Inno3d all have 3 fan versions

Nah, I have no card now. I will pick one of those as soon as they are on newegg or bh. I hope reviews will help me to decide between the models.
 
Anyone else curious as to how the power connectors are positioned since it uses a 6-pin and 8-pin? I'm assuming it's a custom PCB since the FE had the second power connector pin-out at a 90 degree angle.

Nevermind. Didn't see it at first but it's in the 3rd picture on the MSI page. Looks like it is custom and they're both on the top edge. :whistle:

This. The 2 fan on the 9 series card were excellent. And as others mentioned only the lightning has 3 fans now for MSI. I'm waiting to see if the seahawk is worth it or if they're going to charge a big price premium for it.

I do think its a better value than the $700 founders edition I like how EVGA is giving you a custom, superclocked, better cooling one for less than 670 though. Shows whos doing it for the people and not for the $$$

Yeah, because EVGA is a charity organization and MSI is the only one in this for profit. :)

I think in this case we're seeing NewEgg gouge. Although I have not seen what the MSI card should have for an MSRP...

Lol, charity organization. I just had a look at EVGA's prices on newegg and I doubt it's newegg's price gouging. It's definitely the price that msi wants to sell it for. To be honest - you can just get an EVGA ACX 3.0 card for 619 and be happy. The SC version is the same 1 8-pin reference pcb with 100 Mhz factory OC that you can apply yourself in afterburner or flash later into BIOS. No need to pay $30 more for SC.
 
No idea why this is actually more expensive than FE. Over here in MSI-land, it's about $50 below FE
 
After my experience with the 980 Ti w/ the same cooler, I am not buying another Frozr card.
 
Me and my extra $100 will enjoy seeing my $619 EVGA ACX perform similar to the $719 MSI Gaming X due to overclocking limitations
 
Gigabyte G1 is $650. I think MSI is going to be cutting the price here in a month when demand drops down to normal. It may be "MSRP" but its price position makes it seem like temporary gouging.
 
I'm on the fence at this point - I know I won't be buying MSI, I love them as a brand, but their GPU is (like others have said) about $70 too much. 650 is about my limit based on pricipals alone. Honestly though as AIB reviews of the 1070 start to filter in, I'm actually considering going that route and saving 200 dollars. even the 1070 will be able to handle 1440p games just fine, and would hold me over for a year easily to see what happens with a the Pascal Ti version.

I'm not one of the guys that will sit and refresh online for hours hoping to place an order, at this point it seems down to the first place that gets regular stock of either a nice EVGA or Gigabyte 1080, or see if some stock starts popping up for the 1070. From what I've read online we won't really see AIB boards for the 1070 for another few weeks?
 
I think patience is the key here, really no need for any rush, especially now in the this state of stock shortage when the prices are way up and as market isn't still completely formed yet.

Had it in my cart. I even have $10 in newegg gc to burn PLUS newegg premier with free ship returns PLUS zero tax. I still can't pull the trigger. This is no better than the evga card for $650. $720 is such a ripoff.
