After swapping out my gtx 980s with my 2 Evga 1080s all my games played great ( i know I'm using the older sli bridge ) but when I ran doom it was only getting 45 to 70 fps on ultra settings on my Acer predator 34in 3440x1440. I disabled sli and now I'm over 105 fps with 1 card. Is this just a one off or is it because of the old Sli briidge?? I know I need to do more tests.

Hmm, just ran the gta 5 benchmark and I'm only gaining like 5fps with a second card, 3dmark I'm gain g about 4800 points more on firestrike with 2. When are they gonna release those new bridges!!

What do you get in the GTA 5 benchmark?

What Windows version?

I've never tried the GTA 5 benchmark, I guess it doesn't pop up a score at the end, just the FPS during the various scenes?

Windows 10, 3440x1440 max settings I'll have post the results when I get back on my pc ( I'm on my phone ) Project cars was 90 to 100 fps at 3440 x 1440 max settings which was awesome. Crysis 3 ran worse in Sli, Bf3/4/hardline/star wars all ran insanely fast.

What bridge are you using when you say "old"? A ribbon cable one?

Here's a test of the two newer 2015 NVIDIA bridges - one SLI finger and two SLI finger - both have the same performance: NVIDIA SLI HB Bridges and Pascal GTX 1080 SLI Performance.

Why would you spend $1500 on video cards and not buy a $30 bridge? Even if it was to tide you over until the SLI HB drops?

I'm using a older bridge from my 980s, it's not a Ribbon it's a hard one that came with my Asus Maximus Mobo years ago.

Same thing as a ribbon - if it's not LED. Here's your 1440p issue:

Cool, thanks for the info!!!! Frys electronics has a Evga light up one instock by house, I'll be heading g there tomorrow!!

I'll also post benchmarks with the old one vs new one. I do get a warning in Nvidia control panel about my Shit bridge too.

Expecting SLI to actually work properly, or even at all, on newly released titles is an exercise in madness. It rarely happens anymore. And to boot, more and more engines/games are not supporting SLI at all - as in, never.

Sure you can tweak it using different SLI bits and hope for the best. I prefer things to just work without me having to tweak everything constantly to make it come close to working properly. Maybe I am getting old?

Why is the trend for new engines/games to not support SLI at all?

If there were already cards out there that comfortably support 4k playback (1080TI maybe?), I could understand, but we're not there just yet.

It's all about the market. There just aren't that many enthusiasts like us to justify that level of commitment. They have a hard enough time getting it to work for one card.

Like it or not, 4K PC gaming is an edge case.

Ok so I got home and tried out the newer EVGA light up bridges, In 3dmark Firestrike I gained 100 points. In games at 3440X1440 ive gained a few FPS, nothing earthshattering. I'm hoping the New HB Bridges will increase it more, One thing to note is that when I swapped out the Bridges the warning in the Nvidia Control Panel has disappeared.

That's encouraging. Hopefully the HB bridges are made available soon and we can see some real gains. Also need to wait for id/Bethesda to patch in true SLI support for Doom - luckily the game is already well optimized and feels buttery-smooth even at 45 fps.

Im currently using the old ribbon sli bridge on my 980 ti's. Which one should i get? Will i actually see a difference?

They started the messaging for the SLI bridges with the release of the 1080 - there hasn't been any info stating with older cards that it matters. Just a 1080/1070 thing. On the other hand - it's like $30 to get a new bridge and they look cool so if you wanted to buy an EVGA one or something you would get the cool factor. I don't think there's any performance benefit on 9xx and prior.
