I've seen some pretty cool uses for DOOM’s SnapMap feature but this one is pretty damn impressive. The beta has five classes, ultimate abilities, shops and a whole ot more. I've embedded the trailer below.

Ive never played one, but apparently they are the most popular type of online game right now.

Its like an RTS mixxed with an RPG...

Same. The community surrounding them isn't exactly friendly and welcoming, either. Seems like a genre primarily for hormone-enraged teenage boys.
 
The community is rough because the games are very competitive I think. Defense of the Ancients, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, SMITE, and a couple of others considered MOBA are fun online games imo.. They are not for everyone and as a gamer that primarily plays online against other people I find them more fun than your standard FPS death match.
 
Goddamn how customizable is snap map that you can do all this? Or is this a mixture of snap map and mods?

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Think League of Legends, DOTA, Heroes of the Storm, etc...

FPS, RPG, RTS, F2P, FTW, GPU, GG, WTF... Gaming has a long and proud history of acronyms. A bit late to complain about it now =P

would you rather say moba or multiplayer online battle arena? or mmorpg vs massively multiplayer online role playing game. Its just makes sense to use acronyms.
 
they're adding a new dimension to the game so that's cool. If MOBA is your thing then this could be a cheap way to get an addon
 
Not into MOBAs myself, but very cool to see this flexibility. This means that maybe some other cool types of things can be done. I'd love to see some Q3A levels remade. :D
 
Any team game is great if you're into griefing.


Does Doom support mods also?

I don't think it officially supports full mods at the moment. (not sure if they have plans for that either) Based on what I know of id games though, I think mods are possible with or without proper tools. I mean, you can open up any of their pack files, and make changes, so...

However, it seems like SnapMap is pretty flexible, and the game's only been out for a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see what people do with it after they've had some practice.

Hehe, yeah. We don't need game genre classifications to be like programming languages or electronic music sub-genres. :p

Its how you determine different genres of games....
Just saying online game or shooter is pretty generic and doesn't really explain what type of game it is. CS:GO and over watch are two "online shooters" but they are completely different other than there is guns and its in first person.
 
I would find myself somewhere in between. It's helpful to know a little bit more, but without getting too far into "article 7, paragraph C, line 3, word 2" sorts of things. :D I tend to say things like "military shooter" "space shooter" "fantasy RPG" "Cyberpunk RPG Shooter Jobby" etc.
 
A MOBA is one of the newer popular genres of game.
It has an extremely high skill ceiling that favors intelligence. Your actions have consequences, and affect your team drastically.
If you believe you have a tactical mind, try a MOBA and realize how much deeper tactics can go.
Again, this is a game that favors bright minds. But with time you can learn to be decent.

Paragon is a newer one, and has a third person front end, over the traditional RTS style of view.
 
Did they remade ZTN2DM2/DM3, ZTN3DM1, or aerowalk?

I am waiting for the new GPUs. The multiplayer demo was an utter crap to play but I've seen some footage that showed was almost the opposite of what I experienced with the game. It was unplayable. Not in terms of performance, but gameplay wise. No strafe lol... what were they thinking.

Edit: just saw that video. Boring as fuck.
