So I bought a Dell 7559 specs below for $950 shipped and I'm thinking of sending back but will cost me 15% restocking fee ~139.50 + 20 return shipping.

Should I keep and enjoy it or send back and wait for pascal mobile GPU?

i7 6700HQ
16GB RAM
GTX 960m 4GB
15.6" UHD 4K Touch
256 m.2 SSD
1TB 5.4k Hybrid HDD
Full 1 year warranty.

Runs very nicely plays the games I've tried on it good to great, but I feel like if I wait a lil bit I may get one with similar specs and a GTX 1060m for possibly just a lil bit more.

To put it bluntly, if you bought a machine with a 960m you weren't looking on the high end / planning to play maxed out AAA titles anyway. Makes sense -- that's what your desktop is for.

Sell the 980 when the 1080s get to market and get one of those, game on the desktop. Use the laptop for other stuff. Doesn't make sense to take a hit of almost 1/5 of what you paid for the thing.

Yeah man, you're not going to see a 960m replacement on the market for at least 6 months. That GTX 750 Ti is more than enough to game competently at 1080p. Might not be so great in a coupl,e more years, but you knew that coming into things :D

Keep it, tho not sure why you went with a 4K screen with the 960M.. that parts very perplexing however, it's pointless to take that loss now.

Good point, I know that's what my desktops are for but a mobile GTX 1060 if/when may be better than a GTX970m or as good as a GTX 980m? Also I'm finding difficult to justify $950 for a laptop when I'm used to spending that kind of money and getting much more capable hardware. I'm thinking by returning and waiting I would get at least a better GPU for around (+a lil more of course) the money spent.

I know 4k/960m makes no sense lol, but it was no extra cost in pre-config to get the 4k panel although I wish I hadn't because of the glare in well lit areas and "touch" is useless to me as I hate printing the screen.

So summary: you buy a laptop with all the wrong features for you just because it was on clearance, and you're feeling remorse. Got it :D

^ wrong. Nothing constructive to say then why even post!

Remorse because one I feel like I could have done better if I waited, two feel like I paid more than it's worth considering the 960m being already over 1.5 year old.

Honestly, I'm with default on this one.

If you wanted a solid multimedia machine with touch that would happily play 4K video and could game at 1080P with most modern titles if you're willing to turn some settings down, you bought the right machine. Otherwise, bad decision from the start. Looking at your desktop and your responses to questions... you should have known better. You do know better. You made this thread because you knew you screwed up, and now you're upset with people for telling you that you screwed up.

I'm hearing you only got the 4K panel because it was "free" not because you wanted/needed to play 4K video, you wanted to game but knew that the 960m was an older, overpriced, underpowered GPU and bought it anyway, and you don't care about touch capability at all / will likely never use it.

Now you're planning to flat out lose $200 because you didn't think ahead at all, then turn around in a few months and buy something else (for even more than you spent on this, I'm sure) that will still be weaker than your desktop.

You're showing a complete lack of forethought /and/ it's still not clear what you actually want. So yeah, we're all a little confused and less likely to be "gentle". Deal with it.

How long is the return window? If you have enough time, start an eBay auction and see if you can get more after shipping than you would get back after the restocking fee. Best advice I have at this point. That, and grow a bit thicker skin.

personally having a laptop with a 4K panel.. tho the Alienware IPS is far the best in the industry in terms of color and clarity, only reason I got the 4k panel was because it was standard on my 17 R3.

With a brightness of 318.6 nits, the Alienware 17 beat out the screens from Origin's Eon17-SLX (275 nits), MSI's GT72 Dominator Pro Dragon Edition (288 nits) and Acer's Predator 17 (307 nits).

The 17 also topped its competition in color range, with an sRGB range of 173.5 percent. The Origin Eon17-SLX (114 percent), the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro (114 percent) and the Acer Predator 17 (116 percent) were bunched up in a pack behind the Alienware.

It does have it's perks, less demanding games run well at 4K and look amazing.. tho games like Doom and The Division which actually came with my laptop make it buckle due to the lack in horsepower.

The 960M isn't all that terrible of a GPU, and if you dont really game on the go, it was kind of pointless.

My Alienware 17 R3 serves as my gaming device when I cant take my desktop with me and does a damn well good job at it.

As far as the underpowered part, very true, even the 970M/960M is very underpowered but for on the go platforms it's not that terrible.

If you weren't gonna take it with you than yes it was a complete pointless buy and you should have thought it out much more carefully before you bought it "just because".

Personally, I never cared for touch screen and actually enjoying the fact my Alienware lacks a touchscreen.

If you don't have a need, or situation that you bought a $950 paper weight. All comes down to now tho is if you send it back.. you loose $180 roughly.

I'll be picking the wife up a Alienware 15 R2 laptop here simply because her ASUS Q550LF died and she needs a mobile gaming device. Honestly, the 965M Is a ballsy card as is the 960. It all comes down to situation, need vs want and how much you'll use it. I find myself gaming on my Alienware at work on breaks, and take it with us on trips when it rains.

All I can say than.. is well, you got what you paid for. It's not an Alienware, you cant hook up an external GPU to it... knowing nVidia would launch a new card within a few months was close, we all did. I knew that when I bought my alienware, still happy about it. Put the games to 1920x1080 and game on.

Yeah I'll suck it up keep the thing for a couple years, as it's not the best laptop (you do get what you pay for) but very capable and proved useful so far.

I should have put more thought into before buying. It was kind of rushed due to new 3rd shift job so boring and so much down time.

Thanks to all helpful opinions!

There's already the 980m and the mobile 980, which are both much better cards. I wish mine was the 980, but I have the 980m - now supposedly there is a pascal mobile card coming out soon (they have shown benchmarks), but to be honest, I'd swap what you have out for something that has the capability to use an external card. Sure, my 980m is great and it's fine for gaming on the go, but it eats balls compared to my home setup.

To make you feel at least a bit better about your purchase, I could point out that it should be possible to change the panel to a 1080p one. It would be a hackjob, but I have seen it done in a few older Thinkpads.

For $400 less, I am happy with this one:
  • 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7-6500U Dual-Core
  • 8GB of DDR3L RAM
  • 15.6" Glossy Display
  • HD 1366 x 768 Native Resolution
  • Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520
  • 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
  • SuperMulti DVD Burner
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.0
  • Built-in VGA Webcam, Mic, & Speakers
  • Windows 10 (64-bit)
ASUS 15.6" F555UA-EH71 Notebook F555UA-EH71 B&H Photo Video

it is going to be 1-2 years before good variety of laptops with the 10 series chips in them are out i say be happy with the one you have upgrade again in 2 years when the 20 series are coming out to replace the 10...
