the GTX 970 sounded amazing on paper in the beginning as well...I bought one after all the hype...sounded like the best price/performance graphics card ever!...but then the 3.5GB VRAM issue and other gimping issues came to light and while the card is still a great card it's not the same jaw dropping one...hopefully all the correct specs will be released by Nvidia pre-release and there won't be any 'surprises' after a few weeks of testing...the 1070 sounds too good to be true...I'm shocked the 1070 has 8GB VRAM

The GTX 1070 actually has less SMs and memory bandwidth relative to the GTX 1080 compared to GTX 970 vs. 980. So it seems like a trade off in terms of configuration.

I always wondered what if 970 had been configured differently, such as with 6 Gbps memory instead of the cut bus/ROPs.

Essentially 970=980 would have happened. They are already quite close in performance. The difference between the 1070 and 1080 is bigger.

1070 looks promising compared to my 970. Yes, strange Division results. Maybe I'll upgrade after I see a few more + reviews. I'd like to see some min fps too.

Looks like it matches my SLI 970's in pretty much everything. Also right there with my old 290's on 3dmark. Can't wait to pick 2 up and see how well they OC. Should run pretty much everything at 4k with out issue with 2. Hell even with the gimped video memory my dual 970's did well at 4k , just with AA turned down or off. So these should last a bit for 4k.

Would have had only 85.7% the bandwidth, 81.3% the SMs, and due to from what I understand the design also limitations on the ROP performance due to the cut SMs despite the full 64 being present.

If appears so but we have the results. If the NDA does. Lift tomorrow then we'll bet better information
