Canada Using Special Camera Scope To Bust Distracted Drivers

So you are that jerk that sits there for up to a minute when the light or arrow turns green?

False analogue logical fallacy. One can do small things without being "up to a minute sitting there when the light turns green", also you are extrapolating a simple statement to the extreme. You have failed.

WOW you all fail. I am so disappointed that NONE of you saw that she had her finger on the non-existient shutter button on the WRONG side on the camera....

they tried to give a guy a distracted driving fine who was using his phone in a Tim Hortons drive through ordering coffee, which is private property

the joys of Canada, at least the judge threw it out and scolded the cop. surely there is much more important things for our police to be doing

Yes, that's correct. Even when we are stopped at a red light. There was even a recent case where a guy got a ticket for using his phone up here while going through a Tim Horton's drive thru. Turns out the guy was being a major dick to the cop, which didn't help his cause, but still..

While I agree that distracted driving is a major issue, and causes a lot of accidents and injuries. I think they go a little too far sometimes. Cops up here will ticket you for everything and anything they possibly can to meet their quota.

It's now actually getting to the point here that if you knowingly are texting someone that is driving, you can be charged.. How fucking stupid is that?
I'm surprised the cop had jurisdiction, I would have thought a Tim Horton's drive thru was private property...

And this is how you know you have to many cops ..when they need to make shit up to generate revenue and justify their job , its time to lay some of them off

Yeah the places where you can't touch your phone when stopped are cashing in as fast as they can. Carry a small black notepad with written directions and waste their time?

That guy got effed up legally for intentionally screwing with police, iirc. If not him, then it was someone else with the same prank. The black notepad with directions is defensible though.

I know where I live if the property is not fenced off, and is accessible by car, then all the traffic rules apply there as if it was public property. So technically you can get fined while using your phone to pay at Mcvdrive.

I too thought this.

I no longer even look at my phone when I'm driving, stopped or not, but I don't see how they can automatically assume that a car at a dead stop has a 'distracted' driver in it (I guess by definition you're distracted at a stop anyway...but people who don't look at their phones can be distracted too). Sure, the chances are higher that they'd use the phone in motion but it's not a given.

Up next:

Taking pictures of people through bar windows to catch them for a DWI.

Technically they do this too. It's not uncommon for cops to note which cars are at the bars late at night. Usually they sit near the driveway, but I've also seen them wipe the snow off a single taillight so their partner could spot them as they rounded the corner. Overreach? Maybe, but when you have publicly funded health care, prevention has a significant value.

It's the interpretation of the HTA; many parts simply refer to the act of operating a motor vehicle even without it being on the highway. If you've had a couple of brews while detailing your car in the driveway, make sure the keys are inside the house as you can catch a DWI.

Here in Ontario it is illegal to use your phone even when stopped at a red light.

Any additional enforcement, when it comes to idiots using their cell phones while driving, has my support. Just put your fucking phone away.
