New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Only the NVidia 9xx and 10xx series graphics cards can send a 60Hz 4:4:4 signal at 4K res over HDMI.
Because they are the only cards that support HDMI 2.0 or higher.
You can get a Display port to HDMI 2.0 converter, but be careful to get a legit one, there are a ton of fakes.

Thanks Nenu & Another user for the quick reply. I'm essentially using a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter since the TV hooks into a Belking Thunderbolt 2 Hub. May try another thunderbolt->HDMI just for kicks (ensuring is v2) but I'm sensing it may be a video card issue :(

FYI, I suspect I'm dealing with an old HDMI cable as you all noted..will update this when I get the right one.

Can you guys compare these Samsung 4k TVs to those Korean 40"+ 4k monitors? aren't monitor better than tV for gaming?

The only thing you have to watch out for it that not all of them have HDCP 2.2 which mean you may not be able to stream 4K contents from Netflix, Amazon, etc. Although some claims to be 10 bit panels, there's no mention of HDR support.

Also, check to make sure the seller have good reputation for after sales service. I had a backligh failure during the warranty period and my seller was able to get me a replacement part (I have to install it myself but they provided instructions). I have heard of others that was not as fortunate.

I checked out the new KS8000 and KS9000 series tv's and they look significantly better then the js9000 I had. The static contrast ratio is over double the of the js9000, it really is a huge difference to the contrast ratio.

I highly recommend those looking for a tv/monitor to check them out!

I am trying to get a TV setup where I can game in 3D using at 4k resolution with 60Hz effective frame rate. Will the JS9000 or JS9500 satisfy my needs?

Sad news..I've confirmed that my Mac Pro (Mid 2015) only supports 4K at 60hz via its thunderbolt port and HDMI 4K at 30hz (4:2:0 it seems). So swapping from the LG 34UC87M-B to a Samsun un40ju7500fxza is quiet the downgrade in terms of computer monitor quality -- still an awesome 4K "TV" but not how I intended to use 90% of time.

Thanks again for the suggestions..may consider a different box to drive the monitor, will see.

My JS9000 won't turn on. I plugged in the power and the OCB and an HDMI and when I first plug in the power, the white light on the middle comes on and the red light on the right blinks several times. Then nothing happens.

Scratch that. It was apparently a switched outlet. It works now but for some reason only the power button on the remote works with the TV. Dammit.

Edit - I paired it and it works now. :p

So, anyone find a fix for this?

Pretty massive issue, if it affects all of these TVs, especially when people complain about something like a single dead pixel. Had one of these TVs, and when I would split up Chrome on both halves of the screen, the window border on the left would disappear, depending on how close I was and the angle I was looking at.

Here's a test image of a black background with a single pixel white line around it. You might have to set it as your background or full screen it in your browser (I think F11 is the key you'd use), because the slide show feature in Windows 10 is terrible: http://i.imgur.com/3dSXOoB.png

I've never seen that. If I fullscreen the image you linked to, I see the white border. If I create a 3840x2160 black image in Paint and fullscreen it, it's solid black with no border.

I can't say there's an issue here, at least with my JS9000.

Yeah I just tried this on my 48 JS900 in Photoshop, and it doesn't do this.

Good to hear. I must've gotten a dud, or it just affects certain models (maybe the lower end ones?). Nice to know it doesn't affect them all though.

Would any of you be kind enough to post a picture of a UN48JS9000 while it's displaying a white/light gray uniform background? Like Chrome with no page loaded. I've had a curved Samsung ue40ju6700 and it had a slight gradient and discolorations in the left and right vertical 30% of the display. And now I'am wondering wether the display was just a lemon or it's a general problem of the curved displays.

Can anyone comment on the quality of 3D between the JS9000 and JU7500? I would also appreciate an explanation of why these Samsung TVs display 3D with 2K resolution and 30Hz effective FPS when HDMI 2.0 can handle 4K@60Hz? Thanks!

Thats not 4K @ 60Hz per eye.
To do 4K per eye at 60Hz it needs at minimum to be able to handle 4K @ 120Hz without stereo vision.

ps at 1/2 res it should be able to do 60Hz.

Have any 65KS8000 owners experienced weird shit when trying to run a PC at 4K 60hz in game mode? On mine, every 3-4 seconds the screen twitches/stutters. If I switch to PC mode, it's all normal (but obviously 14ms more laggy).

I've tried it on two different gaming computers, and both exhibited the same behavior and I'm running HDMI direct to the tv's breakout box. Very strange.

Bandwidth issues with the cable you're using?

hmm, the UN40JU6800FXZC manual says it only handles 4:4:4 when HDMI UHD color is set to On, and then only at 8 bit color depth, claims to be 120hz, any thoughts on hdmi uhd 8bit in order to get 4:4:4 ?

If you send it 8bit 60Hz, it will display 8 bit 60Hz or will let you use interpolation for 120Hz.
It wont do 120Hz input no matter how you set it up.
120Hz is interpolation only.

Your actual question isnt clear.

sorry, I was meaning as far as image quality and font readability since those seem to be key issues when using these TVs as monitors

I still dont know what you want to know.
The manual says it can, we know it can. What are you asking?

Any tips for improving image quality at 30Hz? From my Mac (DP-HDMI converter) at 60Hz my 48JS9000 looks pretty much perfect, but from my work laptop (miniDP-HDMI converter) at 30Hz the colors look awfully washed out. I can live with the slight input lag - I just basically type a lot all day with limited mouse movement - but the washed out colors really bug me.

Doubt its a converter issue as both converters are active and have been previously verified to work.

Colors shouldn't change with refresh rate. There must be something else...a setting, the graphics chipset, the converter, something. Have you checked the graphics control panels to ensure bit depth, etc. are the same?

It could be a laptop issue depending on the video card, for example haswell's DP 1.2 support is some kind of weird hack that doesn't work with the converters, apparently there are similar problems with some lower power/U version intel cpus. This affects optimus too since even though the nvidia gpu might do DP 1.2 correctly it has to pass through the intel gpu's display logic. Similar reason to why most 9xxM laptops don't have hdmi 2.0 ports :(

My JS9000 received a random firmware update yesterday. No idea what it fixed/changed, as usual.

Any tips with settings for connecting consoles to these TVs? i have a 6500. last time I tried the ps3 it felt really laggy.

wana hook up a ps4
