HTC 10

Is it not troubling that glue must cure on a newly purchased phone before its screen is fully functional?
It's often like this for newly launched phones. It's better to sell the phones instead of letting them sit around unsold since the issue is minor and goes away on its own.

Once they've been on sale for a while, this doesn't happen.

Not really? If they sat on every phone until the glue cured fully, it would elongate their manufacturing process. This would require facilities to hold those phones while curing, and that costs money. That would likely raise the price of the phone, not to mention delay shipping on phones.

My wife has been waiting for this phone and there is a promo code out there that saves you $100 off retail if anyone is interested: HTC1011

edit: Just ordered the HTC10 (white). Says it is in stock and the promo code worked.

I've never had this issue on any of my phones, not sure why you guys are making excuses for HTC.

I have a Nexus 6P that I'm passing off to a family member in favour of an HTC 10 that I'll get this Saturday.

I'll put my thoughts about whether this was a mistake after using it for a week.

Anybody get one, yet?

Yeah. I got one. I really like it so far. I've unlocked it and will be rooting it tomorrow.

It's a bit tall for me (I'm used to a Galaxy S4). It's also heavy. It feels very nice though, and I'm pretty happy with the construction and the HTC version of the OS. It's not bad. There are some thing I'm definitely going to tweak/change though. But overall, I'm very happy with it.

I just picked up my HTC 10 on Tmobile. Still getting everything set up and reinstalled (most has been happening in the background from Google profile, nice feature). I'm not quite there with the dimensions and button placement (coming from an LG G3, about as different as you can get), but it feels very good, much more solid/sturdy that any phone I've used in awhile, alot like my Nexus 4, without the glad handling you did due to both front and back being glass. Very happy with the few test shots from the camera, and the screen is much more vibrant than I was expecting from an LCD. I had hoped to be able to get one in Carbon, The rep thought they might be getting them when I talked to them on Monday, but after checking T-Mo online this morning and only seeing it orderable in silver, I dropped that expectation. The contrast between the deep glossy black of the screen and the brushed silver Aluminum of the shell really stands out nicely. I think I will really be enjoying this phone.

Good to know Yippee and Cheep! JUMPed to the HTC 10 from T-Mo, this morning. Can't wait to say g'bye to this S7 edge.

Same, and it seems much brighter than my G3 was, no problems with it out in the sun. The people complaining about it in sunlight must be used to phone displays running at Batsignal levels.

I bought a pair of these Micro to USB-C adaptors from Amazon, they just came in... Amazon.com: [2 in 1 Pack] Anker USB-C to Micro USB Adapter, Converts USB Type-C input to Micro USB, Uses 56K Resistor, Works with MacBook, ChromeBook Pixel, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nokia N1, OnePlus 2 and More: Cell Phones & Accessories

Will be testing them to make sure they work un til I get the other QC charger from HTC. Will still be useful in the car and such. They were reviewed as good bt the guy that found out about the USB-C compatabilty issue last year, found that they evidently need a 56k resistor added to work charging phones safely. I will update wether they actually work or not.

Also, this new phone is going to put my [H] Lurker staus at risk....

Wow T-Mobile is not supporting the HTC 10 in stores very well.

I live in the Chicago western burbs, and I went to the two big local Corporate T-Mobiles stores in Oak Brook, and Glen Ellyn areas, which are high end big stores always packed with people, and typically have the latest phones on display. Well neither store had the 10 on display, and both basically said they don't promote HTC anymore, and that they will never stock or carry the new HTC 10, but can be ordered on T-Mobile's website. But they were very eager to try and sell me a new LG G5

I called a few other local stores, the reps asked which phone ? A new HTC phone ? No we don't have anything like that.

I had a similar experience in my local AT&T store when I went in to get a new SIM card for this phone. The two people helping me were very interested in my phone. They both wondered why they didn't carry it, and said, "We used to carry HTC phones."

One of two T-Mobile stores in the Mall of America had it, but with a giant security clamp so I didn't get a very good feel in hand.

My two new USB-C cables were delivered today, but not my HTC 10. :bigtears: Found out that you can't use your Jump on a warranty exchanged phone for 60 days. I had to exchange my defective S7 a few weeks ago for a bad screen. The rep I just spoke with said she'd try to get that restriction lifted for me since it wasn't made clear when the Jump was approved on Wednesday.

We shall see... :arghh:

When I went in to get my Phone, there was a gentleman ahead of me that was going through the same thing. I declined to do Jump on this phone as I didn't realise when I put it on my G3 when I bought it tht it requires turnin of the old phone. I usually hand my phones down to the kids as I take good care of them and this way I don't have to buy more phones. My daughter was pretty excited to get to move from the Nexus 4 she had been using to the G3.

As far as stores stocking the HTC 10, I'm wondering if it isn't somewhat due to the lackluster past 2 HTC flagships, maybe they got burned on overstock with those? I'm hoping that the positive reviews for this can turn that around as they get more exposure. I don't think this is the greatest phone ever, but it sure fits closer to what I was looking for and my situation thatn anything else out there. The S7/S7E would have been on top, except for the lockout on outside development. I'm not a huge fan of the almost fanatical belief that some people have that Samsung should be your only choice (like some have with Apple as Well) and I think that attitude has gotten to Samsung itself as well. They are great phones, but not for me.

I hope that they can straighten it out for you Shepard, TMo seems to really do well for customer service, for me at least.

I called 9 of the nearest T-Mobile stores by me in the Chicago suburbs, not one of them has the HTC 10 in stock, and they all said you could order it online, but no display in stores, and will not stocking the phone.

That doesn't seem like the right strategy. It seems like the customer holds the 6S+, S7 Edge, and 10 and then one "wins" or they weren't really in it to begin with.

Meanwhile the crappy, cheapest Chinese TVs that people regret buying after a year always get demo versions at big box stores in every suburb.

Just heard back from T-Mo. They had to open a case to get the things moving. Should get some news in about a week. Feels like taking the long way home.

I just called two other stores, now a total of a 11. These other stores both said the same thing, "We've stopped carrying HTC phones, sorry."

So 12 corporate T-Mobile stores around Chicago, are not carrying, and not supporting HTC phones anymore. But they had a crap load of LG and Samsung phones.

I wouldnt touch a HTC anything.

I bought the HTC Vive VR headset.
The quality is less than decent so I asked for help.
I asked another 2 times and all I received after a week was a canned response, my request for help was ignored.
I replied anyway, restating my request for help.
That also was ignored so I asked again, that was too ignored.
So I informed them I would return it if I didnt get a response this time.
No luck.

I requested a cancellation (return) but they didnt mention where to return it.
I asked 4 times where to return it and got the same 4 canned responses saying the answer was given, but there was no help or answer, the responses were all automated.

Now my bank is handling it.
Sorry HTC, you fucked up. Your problem now.

Wow that sucks, maybe HTC is about to be done, and go out of business.

My HTC Vive is working great. HTC also just signed a deal with VW to smarten their cars... So I think they could definitely do better, but HTC support has been nothing but exceptional for me.

My experience is worth adding to the pool.
It is significant enough that it is worth posting.
Sorry it means little to you.
That brings up more questions than answers.

I know I wouldn't buy another HTC phone. The One M8 I use for work is a pile of garbage.

Crazy how many people come out of the woodwork to bash HTC.

My M8 was an exceptional phone for the 2 years I had it and HTC cross-shipped me a replacement overnight when I first got it and one of the speakers was blown. Can't get much better than that IMO. Before I just replaced it, it was getting better battery life and performing as well in real-world usage as my wife's GS6 (a phone that's a year newer and has much higher specs), plus got an official Lollipop update like 3 months before it.

I was really looking forward to the 10 and pretty set on getting it, but it seems that the speakers would be a downgrade from my M8 and they ditched the IR blaster that I loved. So I decided to pick up a like new 64GB 6P on Swappa for $260 less ($420 total) than T-Mobile is charging for the 10 ($680 + tax). If only they would have put the fingerprint scanner on the back and kept the front facing speakers and IR blaster, it would have been the perfect phone for me. The only reason I replaced my M8 is because I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile and needed a new phone. I actually considered getting an M9 instead on Swappa, but the Nexus appeal was too strong, heh.

I still don't know how a front-mounted fingerprint sensor is 'inferior.' You can't unlock a phone on your desk when the reader is on the back, and it's harder to do quickly since you can't eyeball your finger placement. The 10's design shows that you don't have to have a huge chin on the device, either. I know it's a matter of personal preference (and I suspect that might be all you're trying to express), but give a front-facing reader a shot before you rule out the concept.

I won't buy a phone with a fingerprint reader on its back. It's the main reason I didn't get a 6P.

I thought that was a strange place to put the sensor (on the 6P), but it does makes sense I suppose. I think it's just what you get used to. This is my first phone with a fingerprint sensor and I'm still trying to get used to it. Where it's at on the HTC 10 seems like a really convenient place though.

I'm really happy with this phone. It feels really well made and the UI isn't bad at all. It's way less bloated than TouchWiz.

It's a better placement if you are holding the phone, but it sucks if you want to use it while on a countertop or something.

I have owned phones with both front & back mounted fingerprint sensor's (s7 & g5). Hands down I prefer it on the back. The hard button on the front means that when you press the center you have to push hard vs when you hit the back or menu buttons where its a soft touch. It kinda drove me crazy as I found that I was constantly hitting the button, but wasnt depressing it so it wasnt doing what I was trying to get it to do. I spent 4 weeks with the s7 & couldnt get used to it. Also when I pull the phone out of my pocket its much more natural to get my index finger to the back sensor then it was to get either my index finger or thumb to the front sensor for times when I am just checking the time or seeing what the notification was.

Front vs. back is a personal preference thing... in more ways than just a fingerprint sensor. I didn't like the 6P's back sensor at all. I use my phone a lot on its cradle or a desk top. Much easier to tap the front home button than to have to pick up the phone each time for a reach around.

For the record, I hate the sensor on my S7 Edge. Damn thing never recognizes my prints consistently no matter how many times I've reprogrammed them. My iPhone 6+ was so much better in that regard. Hoping like hell the HTC 10's sensor is better than the Samsung.
