So you guys have all your instocknow alerts setup for the 1080?

What vendor pages will you guys be camping out to try and grab one or two 1080s at the midnight launch at 3am EST 12am PST?

Good luck!

I like 1080, but until 1070 arrives - I'm not jumping on the hype train. 1070 might turn out to be just enough for my 1440p needs for a considerably less money. Even with OCed 970 thanks to G-sync I don't feel bad in current games. The only thing that bothers me is high temps and noise due to an increased load on the card in that resolution.

I'm happy with my 980ti running my 27" 1440p 144hz gsync monitor. If anything, I'll look for another card and run SLI since I've never messed with SLI before. It's hard pulling the trigger on something without seeing benchmarks.

The embargo ends on the 17th in 4 days.. we should see some solid reviews then.

I'll probably do some Amazon F5'ing that day, but am not exactly in dire need of one. My only real motivation for getting one early is to keep my GTX980 from plummeting too far and I can't be without a video card for more than a few days.

I remember getting my 780 Ti on launch day. They didn't release at midnight, it was around like 10 am cst iirc.

No reviews = no plans.

Besides, our society runs on 'what costs the least', so there isn't going to be any rush for 1070, let alone 1080.

Still, given that, I am still tempted to wait until 1080ti, I have a funny feeling that 1080 will be, ironically, just shy of being usable on its own at 4k

But this is [H] - that's not an issue for us! I'm hoping to get one asap. I need all the eyecandy at 21:9 and I think this would make cake of most of games at this res now (3440 x 1440).

Correction:

No reviews yet = no plans, yet :)

I plan to sit back and shake my head as people plunk down $100 extra for reference cards when they could have just waited a month and gotten aftermarket cooled cards instead. You have to hand it to Nvidia. They've even found a way to make extra money on their reference designs. They have now officially become the GPU equivalent of Apple.

Lol! What's even more hilarious is that a 1070 is faster than a $1,000 Titan X. Now THAT cracks me up.

The numbers tell the tale I was hoping for.
I have no desire to drop the $ for a "Founders edition" but will happily grab the first retail priced OEM card I see.

EDIT: In looking around, I can't seem to figure out what the deal is with non-Founders cards.
For instance, both PNY and MSI will be selling Founders Edition cards. Anyone know who is selling a $599 non-Founders card and when?

x2, this is what I'm holding out for. So far no luck in the little bit of browsing I've done.

I would be more excited if the launch corresponded with the release of an AAA game title (Yes, I know Doom 4 was just released, but it isn't exactly the most taxing title).

I can hold on with my current system until after market cards are released and to see what Polaris brings to the table.

There are titles where you can utilize 1080 from the start. Take hitman for example. It was a tough one even for 980ti.

I'll be getting two most likely, but I'm not expecting miracles. Games which struggle now aren't going to suddenly become smooth, but I figure at 15%, at least this should keep many games at 30 fps minimum now instead of 25-30.

For you guys planning to camp out online for midnight release:

Nowinstock now has alerts setup for Amazon, Newegg, B&H Photo, and Nvidia store. Don't forget to turn them on...

I dumped my "get 2 X 1080s on launch day" prep once the articles started dropping that they are (severely?) power limited vs temp limited when it comes to overclocking on air and it will be even worse under custom water (which is what I use)

The articles are stating it really needs an additional 6 pin or possibly even an additional 8 pin power connector to Max the overclock.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 tested with aftermarket cooler | VideoCardz.com

"Test performed by PCHG brought a simple conclusion; it is not temperature that is keeping GP104 from achieving higher clocks, but board power limit, which can’t be increased unless more power connectors are added."

I decided to wait for the custom boards.

I have a bunch of bookmarks ready for saved searches for Newegg, Tiger Direct, Micro Center, and Amazon. Also for Best Buy which isn't listed on nowinstock. I also went to Nvidia's hardware store-front... so i'll have two monitors open with the tabs set to auto-refresh every 5 seconds. And more than likely a couple energy drinks. Staying up to 3am is not easy for me anymore. lol
